WELCOME BACK KENDALL FAMILIES!
WELCOME FOR THE FIRST TIME KENDALL KINDERGARTNERS AND NEW
STUDENTS!
Summer 2015
Dear Kendall Families:
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! I know there remains a few weeks of summer vacation left, so do enjoy
every minute. As we prepare for a new school year we will continue our goals in improving student learning and
high achievement for all students.
Staff members have continued to work throughout summer on professional development in Common Core
Standard instruction for math and literacy. Work was completed both at building and district levels. I am proud
that Kendall staff represented lifelong learning and the desire to improve current instructional practice that will
improve student achievement even during summer break!
This year will include many familiar and some new routines and practices. The essentials will be outlined and
provided in this packet for ALL new families as well as those who are returning to Kendall. The Kendall Parent
Handbook will be available on line at http://kendall.ipsd.org for more detailed information regarding Kendall’s
policies and procedures. In addition, District 204’s Parent-Student Handbook is available on line at
http://www.ipsd.org.
Effective communication supports and provides students with the best possible support to be successful.
Continued opportunities will be offered electronically. For classroom and grade level communication, grade level
Google sites will replace Edline. Messages from our school office will be posted on our building website
http://kendall.ipsd.org and our listserv. You will also receive Connect Ed phone messages from me throughout
the school year. Effective communication is also supported with personal contact to our school office (630-428-
7100) if you have any questions or concerns. We are happy to hear from you. For your convenience, we have
provided a handout in this packet to ensure efficiency in the communication process.
Parents will be able to access classroom assignments on August 14th at 4:00 pm in eSchoolPlus. To learn your
child’s classroom, you will need the eSchoolPlus username and password that you used to update your child’s
registration. For new families, this information will be mailed to you. You can then access the information at
https://homeaccess.ipsd.org/HomeAccess. If you do not have your username and password, please call our
school office (630-428-7100) for assistance.
Our school district will continue late start time for students on Wednesday mornings for the 2015-2016 school
year. During this time school wide professional development opportunities are made available for our teachers.
Collaborative work to improve student learning will occur each Wednesday before school. The start of the school
day will be adjusted slightly. Elementary students will begin school at 9:15 am instead of the usual 9:05. If
you are unable to make the 10 minute adjustment you will be allowed to drop off your child at 8:50 am as on
other days. Supervision will be provided. Please feel free to call our school office for clarification.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday – 8:50 am doors open – 9:05 am school begins
Wednesdays only – 9:00 am doors open – 9:15 am school begins
School supply kits for 2015-2016 that were preordered through our PTA will be available for pick up in our gym
on Thursday, August 13th from 5-7 pm.

Kendall School needs your help to maximize its potential. A partnership amongst parents, staff and children is
vitally important. Please help to foster this partnership by joining our PTA, attending school functions and
monitoring your child’s educational progress. If you have the time, volunteer to work in some capacity through
our PTA. Your participation at Kendall makes this such a dynamic place for students to grow!
I hope you enjoy the remaining days of summer vacation. I look forward to the upcoming school year!
Sincerely,
Lena Guerrieri
Principal
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
New Car Drop Off & Pick-Up Procedures
Effective for the 2015-2016 School
Kendall’s front and side car drop off/pick up is available to all cars based on the subdivision in which you reside.
The change should provide more of a balance in the number of cars that utilize our side car versus our front.
The number of students that live in each subdivision, in addition to our daycare vans, were considered in the
redesign and will help balance the traffic.
Please see below the driveway you are required to use. You will need to communicate this clearly to your
child(ren) and his/her teacher.
Front Car Side Car
Clow Creek South Harmony Grove
Prairie Crossing Saddle Creek
Whispering Lakes
North Harmony Grove
Daycare Vans
If you choose to carpool across subdivisions pick one location and stick with it for the year to remain consistent
for your children.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we work toward improving a system that keeps students
and staff safe during a very busy time of the day. Don’t forget you can always walk.
Reminders:
Front circle exit currently only allows left turns. We are working with the City of Naperville to have the
no right turn removed. We will let you know when you will be able to make right turns. Stay tuned!
Student names in passenger windshield
Obey city signage on Meadow Lake Drive – see city parking regulations
Remain in your car at all times
Please give one, take one when entering driveways
Staff parking lot drop off & pick up is prohibited. It is unsafe for children to cross through moving
vehicles in our pick-up lines.
Walking and removing children from our pick-up lines is prohibited. If a child is in our pick up line
they are accessing a car only. If you choose to walk and get your child they will exit at 3:35 pm with the
walkers.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we continue our efforts for improvement and effectiveness.

new school year!
“Together Making a Difference in the Lives of Our Children”
Summer 2015
Dear Kendall Families,
I hope you all have been enjoying your summer break despite Mother Nature giving us fall like temperatures in July! Even though we still have more than a month to enjoy before school starts, I just want to sneak a few dates on your calendar to get you ready for the new school year!
Thursday, August 13th, 5-7pm in Kendall Gym – School Supply Kit Pick Up
Please note that this is only for those that have preordered their school supply kits at the end of last year. We do not have any extras to sell that evening.
Monday, August 17th, 2:30pm on the blacktop – Ice Cream Social
Please join the PTA for an Ice Cream Social following the teacher Meet & Greet. TCBY has very generously donated choc/van swirl cups as well as orange sorbet cups (dairy and nut free). We ask for your assistance in limiting this event to current Kendall students and their younger siblings so that we can ensure that we have enough frozen yogurt for all our students. The ingredient list for both items are attached for your convenience. We will also be hosting our first restaurant night of the year on Sept 1st at TCBY so please help thank them for their generosity by stopping by there for a treat!
Tuesday, September 22nd, 9:15am in the MPR – Parent Welcome Back Coffee
Please join the PTA for our Parent Welcome back Coffee. This will be a great opportunity to meet other parents, our PTA Executive Board Members, plus the chance to learn about the Kendall PTA and all it offers.
As the board makes plans for the new school year, there is one item to note. World’s Finest Chocolates has acquired Market Day and has decided to retire the monthly grocery fundraising programs at all the schools. As a result, Kendall PTA will be losing $2,000 in income from this program. We have worked hard in the past few years to eliminate direct sale fundraisers (gift wrap, chocolate, cookie dough, etc) at Kendall and want you to know that we will not let the end of Market Day change that. We are hoping to make up the income difference in the fall fundraiser (this year we are bringing back the raffle baskets!) and monthly restaurant nights so that we can avoid having to add in a 2nd fundraiser. We appreciate the continued generosity of all our Kendall families and will continue to work hard to provide quality programs and services to our kids.
The Kendall PTA has many things in store for the students this year and we look forward to partnering with our school and our parents to make it all happen! Whether you have 1 hour or many to give; whether you can volunteer at school or help from home, please consider donating your time and talent to the Kendall PTA.
Thank you for your continued support!

FOOD AT SCHOOL POLICIES
The responsibility to keep every child safe and healthy at school is imperative. The following policies have been
developed with the assistance of an advisory committee made up of staff members and parents. Please keep in
mind the following when reviewing them:
In recent years there has been an increase of students with serious, even life-threatening allergies.
Childhood obesity poses a significant concern across our nation.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Nutrition Snacks
Educational research suggests that students require nutrition at regular intervals throughout the day. In addition
to a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner, students are encouraged to eat a daily nutrition snack at a time designated
by the classroom teacher. This opportunity to “feed the brain” is voluntary but strongly encouraged. Only healthy
snacks are permitted. Dessert-type snacks will not be allowed. Many of our classrooms are designated peanut
free. A note is sent home identifying those classes by our school nurse.
Food/Treats at School
To ensure the safety of all students, any food brought into classrooms by parents or staff members must have
prior approval from the principal and nurse. Five day notice will be necessary for the review of nutritional
information to secure this approval.
Food items or treats will not be permitted during presentations by parents in the classroom.
Special room events are sponsored by the PTA in conjunction with Fall and Valentine’s Day. Crafts made from
food products, candy in valentines, and/or take home treats will not be permitted.
Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays, including half-birthdays for those whose birthdays do not occur while school is in session, are
recognized during morning announcements and include a trip to the office for a birthday pencil. A classroom gift
such as a game for indoor recess or special book is a welcomed salute to the birthday child. Treats and balloons
are not allowed.
