Message from the Principal

Hi Everyone

Athletics Success News from last Friday was that the competitors at our District Athletics Day all performed so well that their combined efforts meant that Montrose PS won the overall tally on the day. Well done to Miss Nicolaou on her organisation and support for the children. Chess Competition here at Montrose This Thursday Miss Smith and Mr Withers’ chess clubbers welcome students from the district for some interschool competition. Student Attendance There have certainly been a lot of sick little children over the last few weeks. Can parents please ensure all absences are notified to the office so we have an accurate reflection of all our students’ attendance and why they are not at school. Grade 3 Camp Our Grade 3 students are getting excited about their first school camp, where they will be heading to Mt Evelyn on the 18th of this month. Payments for this need to be finalised at the office by the end of this week. Production DVD Orders We are still taking orders for the DVD of our school production. The order form is available on our website, please bring that together with $20 (cash or credit card details) to the office. Sentral Parent Portal App is coming! Testing is currently in place as we try to iron out any glitches with our new Sentral Parent Portal. Montrose Primary School have been using Sentral software since 2015 to help manage attendance and reporting. Sentral also provide functionality that can help parents to communicate with and receive information from the school, called the Parent Portal. Using the portal, parents will be able to:

View reports online

View newsletters online

Advise the office of absences

Give permission for excursions, incursions, and camps

Advise the office of changes of address etc for your family

The system will roll out during Term 3 and it is expected all families will be online by Term 4. End of Year Reports for 2017 will not be printed and sent home, but will only be accessible by the portal. More information will be sent home soon – watch this space!

It was a lovely week in the canteen. We served Chicken and Vegetable soup to the children on Wednesday and also provided soup and wraps for our staff planning group. HELP DESPERATELY NEEDED!!! I have recently lost a couple of Wednesday canteen helpers. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO HELP IN THE CANTEEN ON ONE WEDNESDAY BETWEEN NOW & THE END OF THE YEAR, please call Amanda on 0428 380 432. I am also looking for someone who may be available on Friday 27th October and/or Friday 8th December from 9am – 12noon. Please give me a call if you can assist. I need as many hands on deck to keep the canteen functioning as we come into our busiest time of year On Friday the canteen was right in the middle of all the book week costume action. We had many special characters pop in to say hello in the morning and more dropping in lunch order baskets before the parade. CANTEEN FOOTY PICTURE WALL As a part of the upcoming Footy Day, I would love to display football themed drawings in and around the canteen. I am inviting the children to draw pictures of footballs, favourite players, the MCG, football jumpers, team colours…..anything to do with football and I will put all of our wonderful drawings on display for Footy Day. Please put your name and class on each drawing and send to the canteen via lunch order baskets on Wednesdays or Fridays between now and Friday 15th Sept. Canteen Volunteer Thank you A BIG thank you to Ruth Osborne for helping in the canteen on Wednesday and to Kerry Mc Donald and Bronwyn Reimers for coming to a late minute rescue to ensure we were able to serve the children at recess. Thanks to Megan Salen, Loran Phibbs, Tierney Hamilton and Chloe Cairney for their tremendous help on a very busy Friday.

Science Day

On Tuesday 29th August every classroom was transformed into a science lab and the whole school participated in amazing science activities. Here’s what some of the students had to say about the day. Maddie (2PV) loved making Oobleck. It was sooooo messy! Harrison (3K) Science is my favourite. I learnt that the colour black is made up of lots of colours. My favourite activity was racing with a static balloon.

Mia (5G). I enjoyed making the little bouncy balls. I didn’t know you could make your own.

Austin (4S) I liked all the activities. We made a bridge that could hold our own weight!

Max (4S) My favourite was the food colour, detergent and milk. It looks like marble with really cool colours. Ari (1B) I loved making the lava lamps.

I used yellow and red. We used oil and water.

Willow (Prep P) I loved making green slime. We used cornflour, water and food dye. A huge thanks to Mr. Mulhall and Mr. Armstrong for organising such a successful day.

Anti Bullying Ballad by 6C

She stood on the concrete all alone, The feeling deep inside her had grown,

The confidence that was once there, Replaced by disgust and despair,

Waiting for a moment to hide, The tears that came down and landed by her side,

She stood on the concrete all alone, She was cold inside to the bone.

I was writing my life And then crashed while I ride

Two boys came and bashed me up I cried when I lost my awesome car

Blood poured out of my calf The bullies split my bike in half He shoved me like a disgrace He has a smile like a disgrace

Imagine feeling scared With no one to talk to Never able to be heard

With no one ever to walk to Crying on your bed

With no one left to tell A throbbing in your head

They wish you were in hell

I don’t want to go to school I feel like a fool

Standing there alone Cold into my bones

Laying there in the dark On my heart there is a mark

I will never be the same Bullying has caused so much pain

Anxiety fills my mind No one is ever kind

I don’t want to go to school The teachers are always so cruel

All the girls are whispering And I am always listening

They purposefully make me mad And that makes me really sad

He stood in the room all alone And he felt without a bone

When he got pushed He was ambushed When he got home

He wanted to live under a cone All alone

He stood in the room all alone

Remember this when I say it to you I am a person just like you

So please don’t forget this day Why don’t you come over and play?

Push me on the ground and take my stuff, Just remember you don’t have to be tough,

Imagine if I did this to you, You wouldn’t be happy BOO HOO.

She walks with no one by her side After a while she lost her pride

When you called her by that name She was filled to the brim with shame

No one realised the effect And how you can feel pain from the neglect

But maybe one day she’ll have a chance Someone might give her a second glance.

His sitting over on the corner On his knees begging for some money

Every time you call me that name I’m filled and covered with shame

Do you know what it’s like being me? You take my money in a swift

When you punch me you give it like a gift My friend just watches my pain

When I was young I felt like I was stung Stuck in the darkness

Feeling really heartless I didn’t know where to stand

No one gave me a hand I am stuck in despair

I know you don’t care

I feel pain when you call me names I feel pain when I get kicked and punched When I ask them to stop they don’t stop They make up all these excuses and lies

I can’t tell the teachers because I am scared I feel all beat up, in pain and agony.

All my good memories have run away. I go home every day wondering.

She stood there with a smirk on her face She treated her like a disgrace

She was feeling lonely and in despair This is just not fair

The others were all lying While she was left there crying

All she wanted was a friend But no one wanted her until the end.

When you pushed me to the ground, I heard laughter all around,

I tried to run and tried to hide When I got home I cried Why can’t you be nice? My heart is frozen ice What if you were me?

Would you still be as mean?

She sat there giggling and smiling While the other sat there crying

She sat there with her friends having fun While the other friend she had none

She sat there with her friends on her phone While the other sat there alone

She saw her, laughed and then she left While the other, she had nothing left

He was scared and sad, He had been treated bad,

He tried to fit in, And he was put in a bin.

No one talked to him They only bullied him

He was scared and sad He was treated very bad.

Everyday when I walk into school You punch me and make me look like a fool

You call me a freak You call me a geek

I still got a bruise from last week

He always gets rejected He always needs protection They always kick and punch

They always say he cries a bunch

The next person you go to hurt Remember you made them feel like dirt

Instead of trying to look cool, Feel for them you make look the fool

You’re always rude and mean And you made them bleed.

You laugh, you taunt, you spit, you tease Can’t you just stop it please!

Every time you call me that name You fill my body with shame

Why can’t you know what it’s like to be me? So tell me bully, why can’t you let me be? You take my lunch money that’s all I have

You make me sad when it’s just me and my dad, I lost my mum but you still don’t care

I hate you man, you fill me with despair

He was scared and all alone, His heart was cold as stone He was sitting there all day

And thinking why am I in pain? He was always part of a crowd

Now he’s faded away and not proud He looks around scared, near and far

And wonders where on earth they are.

Two people standing near her stare wondering why she’s just standing there

They look around at all the people laughing Singing talking playing teasing

They walk up to her and give her a smile She stays staring at the ground for a while

Finally she looks up and says Finally actually someone cares

Everyday is abuse, Internet or school Everywhere I go is so cruel

I am different cos I have a beard And you guys think I’m weird

I’d rather live in a tomb I only feel darkness or gloom. When you push me I feel bad

And inside me I feel sad.

He made her so sad Because she was so bad The happiness was there Do you think this is fair?

She tried fitting in You threw her back out Do you think this is fun?

Because I hope you are done

A person who didn’t feel like they belonged to the world

That they could twirl Being bullied just for liking the same gender Nowadays it’s okay to like the same gender

No matter what Bullying is not okay
