LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY LEAVERS

Any child arriving to school after 8.30am is required to attend the office, with a parent/guardian, to obtain a late

pass. If your child is leaving school early, the parent/guardian is required to send a note with their child on the

morning informing the classroom teacher of the time they will be collected and who will be collecting them.

The parent/guardian is required to sign the child out at the office, where arrangements will be made for the

child to come up to office.

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

If your child is absent from school for any reason, we require parents/guardians to notify the school office that

they won’t be attending. When your child returns to school, a note must be given to their teacher detailing the

date and the reason for the absence.

If your child has any long term absences from school, (eg. holidays, extended illness etc) a note is required to

be given to their teacher informing them of the absence prior to them commencing the absence.

BELLBRIDGE CROSS COUNTRY

SWPBS: School Wide Positive Behaviour Support program Our SWPBS strategies continue to be embraced throughout our school by all staff and students. This program has

provided a culture and tone in our school that ensures calm and settled environments for work and play. Students respond

well to clear and consistent expectations, supported by incentives and positive rewards, and teachers are able to teach and

students are able to learn with minimal interruptions. Clear guidelines and procedures to manage unacceptable behaviour

or challenging situations provide opportunities for students to learn from poor choices and/or errors in judgement.

SWPBS REWARDS SHOP The ‘Rewards Shop’ is located in the room near the entry to the small staff car park on Bellbridge Drive which is also

used as our Uniform Shop each Tuesday morning (8:00 – 8:45am)

Students in Grades 2 – 6 are able to visit the Rewards Shop each Tuesday at 1:00pm.

Students in Prep – Grade 1 are able to visit the Rewards Shop each Thursday at 1:00pm.

The Rewards Shop is overseen by the Health & Wellbeing Team in collaboration with the Student Leaders (SRC – class

captains and vice captains).

Our students enjoy earning bee tokens for demonstrating positive behaviours in the classroom and the yard. The bee

tokens they collect can be cashed in for prizes at the Rewards Shop or some students prefer to cash them in for beehive

tokens for class rewards, or other classroom incentives.

The rewards consist of food items (cookies, chips, popcorn, cupcakes, sweets) and non-food items (pens, pencils,

colouring in books, games, cards, highlighters, bubble wands, balls, skipping ropes, Frisbees).

On average, we have between 100 – 150 students visit the Rewards Shop each week!

ASBESTOS CHECKS in SCHOOLS

Go Gillard!

Gillard House (Yellow House) are the

winners of the Bellbridge Cross Country

this year. Students in Years 3 – 6

competed in a 2 kilometre or 3 kilometre

course that included a lap of the oval and

a run along pathways near Skeleton

Creek. Our P.E. teachers did a terrific

job planning and delivering a very

efficient event. It was a great team

effort, with the assistance of teachers

and support staff as supervisors and

officials. Well done Bellbridge!

The Department of Education has commissioned an

asbestos audit of all schools and Bellbridge PS had its

audit last week. As a result of the audit, it was determined

that the only area that requires attention is related to the

possibility of asbestos being in the sealant that is in the

framework of windows in Rooms 15, 16, 17, & 18.

A sticker has been placed on each door of these rooms as

a means of alerting any tradesmen if we have a broken

window which requires removal of the sealant. They will

then manage the removal and repair in accordance with

OH&S guidelines. If you have any concerns about this

matter, please make a time to speak with me.

PROCESSES when DEALING with HEAD LICE We have had a few families inform us of recent cases of head lice which has resulted in a request for clarity

regarding the process followed when parents detect head lice in their children’s hair. The school policy is also

included in this newsletter for your reference.

If parents find that their child has head lice they should:

Treat the head lice immediately

Tell the office staff or classroom teacher before the child/ren return to class

Office staff who are experienced in head lice checks will check the child/ren’s hair before they return to

class

When staff have been made aware of a case of lead lice, a note will be prepared for students to take

home to inform families of the class affected so they can check their child/ren’s hair and treat them, if

necessary.

If you have any concerns about this matter, please contact the Office to make a time to discuss it with a member

of the leadership team.

MOTHERS DAY STALL

The School Council has organised a wonderful range of gifts for our Mother’s Day Stall which will be held

next Wednesday, May 4th

between 8:30 – 12:00noon in the ‘Uniform Shop’. Each class will have a rostered

time to attend the stall and all gifts are priced at $4.00 each.

If parents are able to assist with supervising students’ selections at the stall, please complete a registration form

in this newsletter.

ASTHMA FORMS

For any student who suffers from asthma, the school must have an action plan in the student’s file in case

of an emergency. If your child suffers from asthma, please send the form back to school as soon as

possible. It is important that we have this information on hand so as we can assist your child effectively.

MOTHER’S DAY STALL AND RAFFLE

The Mother’s Day Stall will be held in the ‘Uniform Shop’ next Wednesday, May 4th

from

8:30 – 12.00 noon. ALL gifts will be $4.00. Teachers will have a roster of the times for each class.

More gifts will be available on Friday morning (May 6th

) from 8:15am in the Uniform Shop.

Mother’s Day Raffle tickets have been sent home. They are $1.00 each. They are due back by Thursday

THE SMITH FAMILY: The Smith Family are running a program called The Saver Plus program. It is

a 10 months Savings program and after the participant has saved their money over the 10 months, ANZ

Bank match their savings $4.00 up to $500.00. The combined savings can then be used to purchase

educational items for their children. Eg. text books, computers, excursions and swimming lessons. To

be eligible, the participant must have a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card, be at least 18 years

old, have a child at school or attend accredited vocational training themselves and have some income

HEAD LICE MANAGEMENT POLICY

Rationale

Responsibilities for managing head lice are shared between parents/guardians, schools and Principals

Parents/guardians have primary responsibility for detection and treatment of head lice

Schools must develop an accurate and consistent policy to managing head lice that is approved by the School Council

The written consent of parents/guardians prior to students being inspected for head lice must be obtained

Infected students must be excluded until the day after treatment has commenced Purpose

To minimise outbreaks of head lice

To ensure Bellbridge Primary School complies with DET policy and the requirements of the Health (Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2001

Implementation

A pro forma consent form that obtains parent/guardian consent to head lice inspections will be provided to parent/guardians for completion as part of enrolment

The consent form will be updated when guardianship or custody arrangements change for the student or parents/guardians no longer wish to consent to inspections

It will apply for the duration of the child’s enrolment at the school

Head lice checks without physical contact do not require parental consent

Parents/Guardians will be contacted regarding students identified with live head lice and will be sent home

Parents/guardians through school Newsletters or other communications will be encouraged regularly to check for lice or eggs in the hair of all household members and notify the school if their child is affected

They must not send their children to school with untreated head lice

The school will alert parents/guardians of an infestation, particularly the parents of other students in the same class as the affected child/children but will use discretion about informing the school community about an infestation

The school will exercise sensitivity towards students and families with head lice, maintain student confidentiality to avoid stigmatization and support and provide practical treatment advice to parents/guardians
