On the Move!
I can’t tell you how exciting it is to be a part of a
church that lives out its mission to make disciples
of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
As I was thinking about what it means to be a
church, I am reminded again that we are “on the
move.” Although we have a building that we come
to gather in, the real work of discipleship happens
in the world, outside the walls. So we must be constantly on the move
to reach out with the love of Christ.
I was reminded of our church’s long history of making disciples last
night when I got to hear Eddie Kahler, one of our college students,
speak to our youth. Eddie is a student at Mary Hardin-Baylor, and
studying to get his degree in Christian Ministry. He’s one of several that
are currently studying to be in ministry.
As you probably know, Vondel Stevens is in her first year of seminary at
Asbury studying spiritual formation. And Kirk Watson is finishing up his
degree at Perkins, with plans of coming back to the conference to
serve a church. All of these have been nurtured here at First UMC and
sent out in ministry to the world. And there are still others serving
faithfully around the world that have come from this community of
faith!
We can be proud of our heritage – our pioneer spirit. But we cannot
rest in our past. Rather, we must be constantly on the move because
there are so many in our community who do not have the love, peace,
grace and forgiveness of our Savior.
So I leave you with these words from Eddie who spoke this truth to our
youth last night. He said, “All of you are called to ministry.” Did you
hear that church? All of us have been called to ministry, because all of
us have been called “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the
transformation of the world”.
We are on the move because we know that the Spirit of God is
constantly moving, seeking those who are lost. May we be about that
great mission as well!
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Greetings!
I trust that you're
enjoying the warm
weather that is starting
to become more
prevalent. Youth ministry
is going very well this
semester. Attendance
has continued to be
steady and more importantly the youth have
been showing great signs of spiritual growth.
Over spring break around 30 of our youth went
up to the community of Eastridge to host a VBS
at Eastridge Baptist church. We had between
30 and 60 kids from the Eastridge community
attend everyday (cold weather played a big part
on our low days). I'm very proud of all the youth
that helped, especially because they sacrificed
their free time during spring break to serve
others. I trust that our church is equally proud
of them.
We have several other events approaching as
summer nears. Here is a list:
Lock-In-April 12th
Sr. Sunday- May 19th
End of School Party- May 29th
Camping and Rafting Trip-June 3rd-5th

and July 8th-12th
If you have questions or would like to sign up
your youth for any event you can contact me at
336-1699 or [email protected]. Thank
you for your prayers and support!

In an effort to support increased security and
safety for our church members, guests and
children, the outside doors will be locked when
no activities are scheduled. Please, as you
schedule activities to be conducted in the
church building, let the church staff know what
date, time and length so they may be included
on the calendar and the doors unlocked for you.
This action is in no way intended to reduce
members’ access to the church, rather it is
intended to make us all better stewards of His
property, the church. Thank you church
members for your understanding and
cooperation.
