A Note From the Pastor In Sync
ne of the joys of being a dad is getting to
see your children perform in school
events. This week my son’s 4th grade
class had a “recorder” concert. It’s so
great that in 4th grade these children are
learning how to read and play music. And I must
say that this group was outstanding! They played
several numbers on their brightly colored recorders.
My son’s recorder is orange, but they had blue,
green, red, pink, black and white recorders as well.
It was a rainbow of beautiful music. Everything from “Mary had a little lamb” to
“Ode to Joy” was played.
However, one of the harder songs they played was “Amazing Grace.” And as they
played this well-known hymn I noticed that some of the students were rushing the
song. It was almost a fight between the music teacher trying to keep the tempo
and several of the students who were out of sync. As this is going on I’m watching
my son play. And I notice him look up from the music. He’s looking to the music
teacher for direction. He’s playing his notes correctly, but they are not matching
up with what he is hearing around him.
It made me smile because I saw it as a metaphor for life. How often do we get out
of sync with our heavenly Father? We might be playing all the notes right, but not
in sync with the melody of life. We might be playing in tempo with the world
around us, but it’s not the tempo that God wants for us. Sometimes God wants us
to slow down. It’s a reminder that we need to look up to the Father to make sure
that we are on the right path. That the music of our life is being played in sync
with the timing of the Father’s will.
During this season of Lent, I pray that you would be intentional about slowing
down your tempo and spending time in prayer and meditation with God. For
God’s tempo is best!
I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
In Christ,
Rick Enns

Remember the Church in Your Will
All it takes is one simple sentence. Consider adding the following
statement in your will. “After all my bills are paid, I want 10 percent of
my estate (a tithe) to go to First United Methodist Church of Canyon.”
