Cars in the Park: 15 Years of Getting It Right

On Sunday, August 24, 2014, “Cars in the Park” (Minnesota’s Jacket Show) will celebrate 15 years of hosting a very

fun and successful car shows held in Memorial Park located on the eastern edge of the City of Shakopee. This is a car

show put on by people who have attended countless shows over the last 20 years and found many things we liked and

many that we did not. So we took the best ideas, added a lot of our own and now have what we believe this is one of the

finest small venue shows held in the state.

Location: “Memorial Park”. shade and grass, shelters and cooking stands, walking paths and a playground. At

Memorial Park if you want to put up a small canopy just push the legs into the grass, no need for sandbags here. Bring a

Kid to a Car Show? No problem. If they get restless, it’s off to the playground with swings and slides and climbing areas.

If the wife says, “Go alone, I get bored. Tell her to come along and take her for a stroll on the paved walking paths that go

along the banks of the Minnesota River.

Food and Beverage: Two different vendors with very different fare. The Popcorn Man will have his wagon set up

offering varieties of popcorn, sno-cones, water and soda. For a meal, award winning Stone Blue B-B-Q offers possibly

the best food ever consumed at a car show with pulled pork or beef brisket sandwiches, homemade baked beans and

coleslaw. For the purists, hot dogs will also be available. During set up time while you’re cleaning your car or socializing

with others, coffee and assorted pastries will be available at a nominal cost.

Awards: Trophies, been there, done that. This is a “Jacket” show. We will be awarding 25 embroidered jackets to car

owners selected by participant vote. We limit the number of votes per person so that no group can take over the voting.

No classes, no cut off years. If you can drive it, tow it, or push it into the park, you’re good to go. When are the awards

given? “On time”. The awards will be done and your wheels rolling by 3:00 if not before.

MSRA RIDING THE RAILS TOUR

Page 16: SCHEDULE OF EVENTS MSRA Eventsmsra.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Events-forAugust-LineChaser-2...SCHEDULE OF EVENTS MSRA Events August 22 - 24 ... St Francis City Centre Mall,

Enjoy the fall colors riding the rails while enjoying a fine dining experience on antique diner china, and glassware from the Great Northern Empire Builder era.

You will have a choice of strip steak or chicken, vegetables, potatoes, and a glass of wine, ending our meal with a very special dessert.

The train ride is approximately 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours long. I have space for 60 MSRA members to enjoy this evening. I will be at the August and September Meeting taking

reservations or you can call me, Charlotte at 651-765-0554. If I’m not home please leave a message and I will call you back.

Mai Thai Restaurant Starts Wednesday “Cruise In”

A little over a year ago my wife, Joy, and I opened Mai Thai Restaurant in Robbinsdale in the former “Mr Steak Restaurant” building across from Crystal Lake, 3839 Lakeland Ave N, Robbinsdale, MN 55422, just off highway 81.

The restaurant has seating for about 80 and we also provide take out. You can find out a little more about us on Facebook, Google, Yelp and Urban Spoon. We have offered a 10% discount for card carrying MSRA members since we opened and will continue this as well as offering other discounts and specials to participants of the “cruise in”.

We will have the “cruise in” from 5 – 9pm every Wednesday until the weather prohibits. Special parking will be provided for “cruise cars”. If anyone has ideas to make these events more fun and successful, we will be happy to hear

them.

Be on the lookout for fun, funny or dumb things that your fellow rodders might do at many of our summer events. Then report them to Santa’s Elf. She would like to have some fun at the Christmas meeting. Sue Jans is taking messages for Santa’s Elf at 651-760-3871.

Board Nominations for President, Secretary, & 5 Board members

Membership applications or late renewal payments for 2014 will be accepted through the August General Membership Meeting. MSRA members are entitled to many winter and summer activities. Please remember that each event

takes a lot of planning, organizing and managing. Take a minute to say, “Thank You” to the coordinator

of the event. They do it because they want to, but an “atta boy” is always welcome.
