2017 SDL Mystery RunBy Michael Schuenke #19490

What in the World is a Mystery Run?The Sedan Delivery Club – MN Chapter is holding its

annual Mystery Run on Saturday May 6, 2017. This event is open to everyone! This year, the Sedan Delivery Club Mystery Run is an MSRA Voting Event!

What is a “mystery run” you ask? A mystery run is a chance to take a cruise with friends and family and enjoy a day of fun. There is a starting point, where you register for the run. The ending location of the run is the mystery. After registering, you will be given a packet of information. This packet provides clues to find the end location. The clues will help you know which roads to take. It is highly recommended that you have at least one “navigator” to read the clues and help the driver know where to turn. Between the registration/start and the ending location, you will be asked to look for certain things and write them down. Again, the navigator(s) can help with this. An example of things to look for along the way: “What color is the barn at your next turn?” “How many stars are on the sign for ‘XYZ Company’ and what color are they?” You will receive points for answering the questions correctly.

There will also be three stops between registration/start and the ending location. The location of these stops is also a mystery, but the clues will guide you to find them. At each stop, there will be games. The better you perform at these games the more points you will earn.

At the end of the run, each participating vehicle will turn in their packets and the points will be tallied up. There will be prizes for the top three finishers. In the event of more than one vehicle having the same point total, there will be a tie breaker at the ending point, perhaps a game or a trivia question.

This is a rain or shine event. We encourage everyone to drive their classic cars. We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed for great May weather, however, if there is inclement weather, you are welcome to participate with your daily driver!

The ending point will be an eating establishment, so you can purchase food and drink after a fun ride in the car. We are trying to plan the run to be between 1 hour and 2 hours, the final route is still being determined. Thanks for reading and we hope to see you there!! Questions? Contact Roger Rickey at 763-753-4393 or Michael Schuenke at 612-760-7409.

DEVILS RUN'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY

Wow............ where did the time go? We have been working hard to make the 25th Anniversary a special event. Kicking off the 25th will be the Annual Steak Fry at Lakota followed by (new this year) a HUGE Fireworks Show at the Spirit Lake Casino on June 1st.

Also for the 25th Anniversary, Sharon and I will be giving away 25 Special Edition embroidered jackets. These jackets will also be available for purchase if you don't happen to be a winner.

Registration for Devils Run includes 10 FREE meals plus entry to all Devils Run activities. There is no entry fee for Sunday only participants. Sunday only do not need to pre-register but we ask that you sign in at the park entrance. Sunday only will not qualify for prizes or free meals.

There are a number of participants that have participated all 25 years. They will have the option of leading the parade and be offered special parking in the park on Saturday.

It is impossible to list everything that is happening so we have a full schedule of events posted at www.greaterdakotaclassics.com Click on Devils Run Car Show for past pictures, 25th Anniversary Schedule, motel information and entry forms.

If you enjoy putting on a few miles for a good mystery run we will try to put something together guaranteed to entertain! If you don’t want to spend Saturday morning wiping down your ride before the Show and Shine in the city park, you won’t have to if you take advantage of our indoor parking at the fairgrounds! If you were here last year, tell your friends about the time you had and bring them along. See you this fall or if you have questions give me a call.

MSRA Schedule of Events April 201762

The MSRA Super Secret Fun Run will be held August 25-27, 2017. Once again the event will be held at Brainerd International Speedway in Brainerd, MN. There will be no on track activities on Friday, only Saturday & Sunday.

The rules have been pretty much unchanged since the inception of this event. This is a street rod, custom and nostalgic event open to 1978 vehicles and older. In that order, those cars will have priority for the ¼ mile. If you own a later model car (1979 or newer) and you want to bring it to Brainerd, you are welcome to do so but you can’t participate in the on track activities. Drag racing will take place all day on both Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. MSRA members will be allowed to make passes down the drag strip provided their cars pass the on-site NHRA Tech & Safety Inspection conducted by the staff of BIR. Your vehicle must have the minimum required safety equipment for the speed and ET your vehicle runs in order to make a pass down the drag strip. Some examples of missed items from previous years are: missing or improperly installed seat belts, missing or leaking coolant overflow tank, missing or broken battery hold down, nylon tubing used for mechanical oil pressure gauges and missing or expired helmet. If you don’t pass Tech, you do not get to run your car.

Camping is handled by the staff at BIR. You can call them to reserve a campsite at 218-824-7223 or 866-444-4455. Camping prices are the same as last year as well, $10 per person/per night to camp. This gets you a wrist band and the ability to camp in the “rustic camping” area of the track. If you want a reserved campsite with full hook-ups (electric, water & sewer) those are an additional $40 per night. If camping is not your style you can also rent one of their condos.

MSRA members that would like to bring a motorized auxiliary vehicle will be required to pay a $10 fee. All non-licensed motorized vehicles (any vehicle that doesn’t have current state roadworthy licensing) will require an authorization sticker to operate on BIR grounds. The authorization stickers will be available for sale at the front gate during the event. To purchase a non-licensed vehicle ticket, an adult (over 18 years old) with a valid drivers license

Chevrolet owners: Starch dish to share (ie potato, pasta, rice, hot dish, buns, etc)

Ford owners: Salad or vegetable dish to shareChrysler owners: Dessert to shareOrphan cars or any other: Fruit or relish to shareBYOB event – Bring your own beverage!
