For the next project you will be creating a Photomontage (a digital collage) using your camera techniques and Adobe Photoshop.

DEFINITIONS:Surrealism in art: A literary and artistic movement of the 1900s that attempts to express the workings of the subconscious and is characterized by fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtaposition of subject matter.Symbolism: An artistic and poetic movement or style using symbolic images and indirect suggestion to express mystical ideas, emotions, and states of mind.

Requirements:You will be using photographs that you will take, textures from free sources on the internet and the paint palette in Photoshop to create your Photomontage.

1. Shoot a picture of a person you admire with exceptional lighting. The type of lighting is up to you; it can be really hard lighting where the light is really dark everywhere but on the subject’s face or soft lighting where it is really bright and your subject’s face is almost glowing. Be sure to pose your subject well and take several different poses so you have several good shots to choice from.

2. Shoot 5-7 different background shots. The background shots could consist of:

a. Landscapesb. Wallsc. Texturesd. Skye. Objects such as:

i. Trees/branchesii. Flowersiii. Or anything with interesting characteristics

3. You will learn how to paint onto your photomontage with the amazing paint palette in Photoshop. You are required to have some painting techniques added to your photomontage.

4. You can copy and paste textures only from the Internet onto your photomontage, but be sparing with this technique. I don’t want it to overwhelm the image. *See resources belowRight click on the texture image and “Save Image As” to your folder.

5. The main idea is to have 7-10 or more layers in Photoshop to have a surrealistic photomontage.

6. Remember to incorporate Symbolism into your photomontage.

OPTIONS (NOT REQUIRED):

7. You have the option of using Text to enhance your image, but I don’t want this to become all about the text, but rather use the text as an art form to add to your photomontage.

8. You can also use what tools you’ve learned during the semester like editing the image by varying contrast, hue, saturation, or by changing size, scale, proportion, or by applying filters to change images from a realistic mode to an artistic, imaginary rendition.
