READING TECHNIQUES
•What is scanning?
It involves moving our eyes quickly down the page or search quickly for the specific information or words and phrases we may wish to get from the material like finding a specific name, date, statistic, or fact without reading the entire article.
•What are the 7 steps of scanning?
In scanning, we decide on keywords that will help us locate the information we need and look for the words on the page and we must be willing to skip over large sections of text without reading or
understanding them.It can be done at 1500 or more
words per minute.
It is a reading technique where we glance a text to be
able to obtain only single information or it rapidly
covers great deal of material in order to locate a specific fact or piece of information.
1.State the specific information you are looking for.
2.Form specific questions that you want to know.
3.Try to anticipate how the answer will appear and what clues you
might use to help you locate the answer.
4.Identify likely answer locations.
5.Use headings and any other aids that will help you identify which sections
might contain the information you are looking for.
6.Selectively read and skip through sections of the passage.
7.Confirm your answer.
