New to childcare vouchers?Childcare vouchers are a Government initiative designed to help working parents pay for quality childcare.

Who can accept the vouchers?Ofsted (or equivalent) registered:

• Childminders

• Nannies

• Nurseries

• Out-of-hours school clubs

• Play schemes and summer camps

• The care element of boarding schools

How does the scheme work?• Working parents exchange part of their salary

for childcare vouchers.

• Parents don’t pay tax and NI on the value of their vouchers (and could therefore save over £900 per parent per year, depending on their circumstances).

• You don’t have to pay Employer NI contributions on the value of vouchers taken, so you save up to £402 per employee per year.

What are the rules?• The scheme must be open to all employees

• The vouchers can only be used to pay for registered childcare

• The vouchers shouldn’t take an employee’s salary below the National Minimum Wage or Lower Earnings Limit.

Selecting the right providerAlthough the rules and savings are the same for every scheme, providers will offer you different levels of support. An experienced and reputable childcare voucher provider should offer you certain features, highlighted overleaf.
