December 2014 Issue # Another Successful Schwartz Center Dinner! Thank you to everyone who joined us at our 19th Annual Kenneth B. Schwartz Compassionate Healthcare Dinner on Thursday, November 20, at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. More than 1,800 guests attended, including caregivers, CEOs and senior leaders from hospitals, health plans, healthrelated associations, and biotech, pharmaceutical and device companies. These attendees joined us in celebrating the importance of compassionate care and the beginning of the Schwartz Center's 20th year. The event recognized caregivers for the amazing work they do each day, and raised more than $1M to support the mission of the Schwartz Center, thanks in large part to our Dinner Chairs and Event Committee . Thea James, MD, the recipient of the2014 Schwartz Center CompassionateCaregiver Award®, has dedicated her lifeto reducing community  violence andhealthcare disparities among vulnerablepopulations. Dr. James practices emergency medicineat Boston Medical Center and co­foundedits Violence Intervention AdvocacyProgram, which provides victims andperpetrators of violence with servicesthat facilitate healing and discourageretaliation. "She has a natural ability  to normalizeevents for people in crisis, and provide asafe environment free of judgment,shame and fear," says a colleague of Dr.
