Brenda is the Executive Minister of the South Carolina Christian action Council. The Council is South Carolina’s only statewide ecumenical agency--a partnership of 19 state or regional bodies representing 14 Christian denominations. The Council promotes Christian unity and harmony in the Inter-religious world and advocates in public policy for the common good. Brenda is in her 20th year with the Council.Brenda also serves Belmont Baptist Church in Columbia, SC, as pastor. Belmont is a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship affiliate and member of the Columbia Metro Baptist Association of the Southern Baptist Convention. Brenda was ordained by her home church, Bethel Baptist, in Monetta, SC, in 1977. She has been in Christian ministry since 1973.Brenda is a graduate of the Non-Profit Leadership Institute of Francis Marion University, the Executive Institute of the SC Budget and Control Board, and the Gallup Leadership Institute, Nebraska. She earned the Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina during which she completed the basic unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Baptist Hospital, Columbia, SC. She did graduate work in Spiritual Formation at Southeastern Seminary and in Education at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. Her undergraduate degree in Education was earned at Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC.

Iwana is an adjunct faculty member in the Corporate and Continuing Education division at Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the Honors College of the University of South Carolina (B.A. English, magna cum laude; M.Ed. Student Personnel Services, Ph.D. Counselor Education), and conducts staff and management development training programs for businesses and organizations in the public and private sectors.She has presented hundreds of programs to professional and civic groups and associations and speaks often on motivational and job-related topics such as customer service, dealing with difficult co-workers, conflict resolution, and projecting professionalism in the workplace. Her clients include state and federal agencies (SC Dep't. of Public Safety, Dep't of Transportation, Dep't. of Corrections, DHEC, Budget and Control Board; US Department of Justice, Civilian Personnel Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, University of South Carolina are a few examples), technical and community colleges throughout the country, medical associations and hospitals, and various businesses, industries and service organizations. She is an oft-requested keynote and workshop presenter at state and national conferences and professional meetings, and especially enjoys topics related to motivation on the job and employee and leadership development. She has been chosen adjunct faculty member of the year three times during her tenure at Midlands TEC.

Matthew Stalnaker, M.Div., BCC. serves as Chaplain in the Department for Spiritual Care and Wholeness at Cone Health where he provides spiritual care for the patients of Wesley Long Hospital and Behavioral Health Hospital of Greensboro. An ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, Matthew holds degrees from Campbell University (BA) and The Wake Forest University School of Divinity (MDiv). He completed residency in pastoral care at University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill, where he specialized in Neuroscience and Psychiatry.

Reverend Ray L. Watlington, M.Div., BCC is an ordained veteran Baptist Pastor and is an APC Board Certified Chaplain. He currently serves as the staff Chaplain for the Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. He is an active member of the NC Chaplain Association and the Association for Professional Chaplain. He is also the author of Preaching as a Means of Pastoral Care, published by Brentwood Press in 2002. Ray currently serves on the Carolinas Health Ministry Partnership Board and is an active member on the Education Committee.

Carroll Page, BA, MDiv, D.Min . Currently Carroll is an associate Atrium Health hospital chaplain and serves in an interim pastor role at Sandy Mush Baptist Church. Carroll’s’ doctoral dissertation is entitled “Storytelling as Theological Reflection” with a focus on encouraging people to share their stories and the stories that have meaning in their lives. He has been involved with the Advent Spirituality Center, the Anchorage Contemplative Ministry, and the Network of Biblical Storytellers. He is a former group facilitator with IMPACT, and professor of Gardner Webb University. Involved in professional ministry since 1972, Carroll acquired a BA in sociology from the University of South Carolina, a master’s in divinity and doctorate of ministry from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Lodging Details: Most participants will be assigned rooms in the Kanuga Inn and will be based on the postmark dates of registrations. Guest rooms are not equipped with a telephone. Assignments to rooms in cabins will be made after the Inn is full. Persons in double rooms without a chosen roommate may be assigned a roommate. All reservations must be done by CHMP. Helpful Hints: Casual dress encouraged but be prepared for cold and occasionally wet weather. Layered clothing is best for indoor and outdoor use. Sweaters and jackets will be needed. Bring an alarm clock and wear comfortable shoes. Walking to and from the inn and the conference room is required. If you have challenges with mobility please specify on application.
