&How to Make YourPatio Party Ready!! It is the season forenjoying the outdoors asmuch as possible!
I love intimate dinnerparties on the patio asthe sun gets low in thesky.
Some of our friends lovepulling out the screenand hosting outdoormovie nights in theirback garden.
There are so many lovelyopportunities to enjoysummer in SouthernCalifornia!!
Here are a few ideas forgetting your outdoorspace ready to party!
Set the Scene:
Make it pop with paperlanterns, table linens and

fresh flowers.
Set up a beverage station soguests can help themselvesand add cushions or pillowsto outdoor chairs.
Comfortable furniture willinvite guests to sit and relax!
Bring The Indoors Out:
No patio furniture? Don'tworry!
Weather permitting;bring your dining table, chairs, china, glassesand utensils outdoors toturn your celebrationinto a finediningexperience.
(Remember the movieOut of Africa? Thismovie holds several ofthe most inspiring andromantic outdoor mealsettings I've ever seen!)
Guests will appreciatethe extra effort and yourcarefully prepared mealwill look (and taste)much better served onchina instead of a flimsy, disposable plate.
Freshen Up TiredSurfaces:
Turn a worn deck into acolorful outdoor roomwith a few coats of paintand coordinatingdraperies made fromweatherresistant fabric.(We have lots of choiceshere if you are in themarket for outdoorfabric!)
To ensure a lastingpainted finish, first sandthe deck to create asmooth surface, thencoat with exterior deckor porch paint which isspecifically formulated towithstand foot traffic andweather.
Pick a Palette:
The same rule of three(main colors, that is)

that applies to selectingan indoor color schemealso works whenplanning an outdoorparty.
Choose three main colorsto create a theme thencarry those colorsthroughout withaccessories like napkins, plates, place cards, paper pompoms, pennants or balloons.
One of my favoritecombinations isturquoise and orangewith bright whiteaccents.
Another favorite ismarine blue and white.
If you are going for afrench theme, blue andyellow play greattogether!
Construct a DIY BuffetTable:
If you're short on surfacesfor serving guests, try thisdesigners goto trick:
Lay a hollowcore door orthick piece of plywood overevenlyspaced sawhorses, cover with fabric and voila a beautiful buffet table withplenty of serving space thatcan be broken down againand stored when the party'sover.
Light It Up:
If your gettogether willcontinue into the evening, illuminate the party area withstrings of lights encircling anumbrella, wound around treetrunks or run along cablessuspended above partygoers' heads.
Candlefilled or solarlanterns, placed on tablesand at patio edges, are greatalternatives if your homedoesn't have outdoorelectrical outlets.
Another option that doesn'trequire electrical are solarpath lights.
Looking to add some stylish candle light? It would behard to do better than these Meteor Candle Holders. Measuring 4" x 5" they make a grand statement at
$24.50 each.
I've just loaded up on a bunch of new fun "designer"
match boxes. $3.50 each!!
Some of these are designednow to look really cool anddon't have the distressinglyvisible solar panels that lookutilitarian during the day.
Make Children FeelWelcomed:
If young ones will be a partof the festivities, plancreative ways to keep thementertained.
A table just for the kids is agood idea; cover it withwhite butcher paper andhave crayons available sothey can draw to their hearts'content.
Truly, I have been known toenjoy these tables the most! Perhaps we should also becovering the adult tableswith butcher paper andadding crayons for all!!
Wind Down Around theFire:
The perfect end to anoutdoor dinner party: Makings'mores by an open fire.
All you need are bamboosticks and the rightingredients! Chocolate andgraham crackers andmarshmallows anyone!?
Want something yummy forthe adults to enjoy with thes'mores? Consider this drinkrecipe:
4 cups 2inch cubeswatermelon 1 cup vodka, chilled(optional) 2 tablespoons honey(standard light honey) Garnish: Smallwatermelon wedges withrind
Directions:
Freeze the watermelonchunks in a ziptop plasticbag until just frozen, about 1hour.
Remove from the freezerand add to a blender.
Pour in the vodka andhoney.
Process until blended and

pour into frosted cocktail orjelly glasses.
