WELCOME!It’s a new year and we have lots of fun, new ideas to share. The most exciting news is the debut of our new online registration system. It’s easy as pie to become familiar with and soon you’ll feel like an old pro. We’ve been working on this system for a long time in response to comments from our students. I hope you like what you see.

And of course, we have classes. New this semester are Mountain Biking, Screenwriting and How to Grow Orchids.

ARTSanta Fe is synonymous with creativity. Continuing Education has many classes where you can learn to express yourself.

NEW! DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAINRetrace your steps to the days when it was fun to play with art supplies and just make something all your own. “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” means picking up a pencil, doing a series of simple, low-stress exercises and turning it all into hours of satisfying, deeply meditative activity. Watch yourself progress, week after week, from basic student to someone who will want a sketchbook firmly in hand.

Tuesday, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., March 24, 6 wksCourse #AT307 01/CRN 31635Lisa Coddington, Fee $149

SPRING BOTANICAL DRAWING AND PAINTINGLet’s create a finished botanical! Focus on creating your finished botanical of a flowering bulb as we develop each step as a group. Start with well observed pencil studies that support your watercolor botanical. Each participant brings the same assigned flowering bulb subject. Working from the same subject as a group allows more time to focus on developing specific drawing details and color mixing.

Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Feb. 24, 6 wks.Course #AT312 01/CRN 31553Lisa Coddington, Fee $149

CHARCOAL LANDSCAPE DRAWINGProduce drawings that look like the scene you’re viewing. Learn techniques to use charcoal and plastic erasers like broad-stroke brushes that sweep across the paper similar to painting a landscape in oil or watercolor. Not only an exciting way to produce powerful black and white drawings, but this style also mimics oil and watercolor painting. Only a few inexpensive materials are needed.

Saturday, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Feb. 14, 4 wks.Course #AT313 01/CRN 31562Michael McGuire, Fee $155

LIFE-DRAWING STUDIOThis class is for those with some nude-figure drawing experience who are ready to move to the next level. After a series of brief warm-up gestures, the model maintains one long pose for the duration of the session, giving you time to develop your drawings and focus on aspects of the figure that give you trouble. Short slide presentations are part of the course. Personalized critiques focus on accuracy of gesture, proportion and artistic anatomy.

Wednesday, 6:30 to 9 p.m., April 8, 6 wks.Course #AT314 01/CRN 31556Kevin Gorges, Fee $145

NEW! BEGINNING ACRYLIC PAINTINGThis course is for anyone interested in the combination of acrylic paints and gel mediums. Structured assignments include color mixing and composition. Demonstrations help guide you toward an understanding of how materials interact. Starting with dry materials such as graphite, pen and charcoal on prepared surfaces including paper, canvas and board. Students then make the transition to acrylic paint and mediums. Explore the formal language and artistic expression of both abstract and representational work. Students use imagination as well as historical references. No experience necessary, only a curious mind.

INTRODUCTION TO IYENGAR YOGADeveloped by yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar more than 60 years ago, Iyengar yoga promotes strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance through coordinated breathing and poses that require precise body alignment. Equipment like blankets, straps, and blocks to help the less flexible also distinguishes Iyengar from other types of yoga. Although Iyengar incorporates the traditional postures, or asanas, that make up the broader category of hatha yoga, the props revolutionized yoga by enabling everyone – even the elderly, sick, and disabled – to practice. Because of its slow pace, attention to detail, and use of props, Iyengar yoga can be especially good if you’re recovering from an injury.

THE SFCC FOUNDATION PROVIDES LIFE-CHANGING OPPORTUNITIES.With one click, you can be a part of the transformation.www.sfcc.edu/foundation/donate_online

As someone who takes advantage of opportunities to learn and grow, you know the value of education. Nothing else can transform a life so completely. No other process can alter an individual’s journey so dramatically.

SFCC Foundation scholarships allow the transformation to take place. A scholarship allows students to learn new skills, earn a college degree and reach for opportunities they never dreamed possible. The result is a better life – for themselves, their families and our community.

DOUBLE YOUR DOLLARSThe SFCC Foundation invites you to help deserving students receive the financial assistance they need to complete their education. This year, regardless of the amount, your donation counts double: For every dollar you give, the SFCC Foundation will receive a dollar from a matching grant program. Do it now: Double Your Dollars. Your generosity empowers more students to reach their educational goals.

How to give • Online at www.sfcc.edu/foundation/donate_online • Mail a check made payable to SFCC Foundation,

Room 111, 6401 Richards Avenue, Santa Fe NM 87508-4887.

Consider a donation in any amount to SFCC Foundation. Now, it’s easier than ever to give. Just go to www.sfcc.edu/foundation/donate_online and make your contribution to help students succeed. For more information, contact SFCC Foundation’s Executive Director Deborah Boldt, 505-428-1855.
