sandwich zine issue # 8 : may/june 2010
DESCRIPTION
Sandwich Zine Issue # 8 : May/June 2010. Sandwich Zine is a bi-monthly grassroots/independent online publication. We are people with ideas and emotions to express. We are individuals with different needs and wants that cannot be satisfied by standardized objects of mass culture. The views expressed in this publication do not necessarily reflect the views of the overall zine or the views of all the zine contributors. We are different from each other, enough so that we may even disagree; however, we are similar enough that we can try to understand each other’s beliefs. We are collaborative in our drive towards dissemination of independent, alternative ideas. It's the best thing since sliced bread!TRANSCRIPT

Eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of exercise, and nurturing emotional well-being is a great start for couples preparing for childbearing. Having the proper balance of hormones is essential for all stages of childbearing and herbs are safe, natural foods that can assist in this
process. Elevated estrogen levels are necessary in order to conceive, while higher progesterone production maintains the pregnancy. Prior to delivery, estrogen levels are increased again. Though herbs do not contain hormones, they have precursors that the body can selectively use to create the hormones needed in their proper balance. Herbal recommendations for pregnancy and childbearing: Trying to conceive: Black Cohosh, Licorice, Blessed Thistle Dr. Christopher's Changese formula (for hormone-balancing) To build a malfunctioning reproductive system (can take before, during and after pregnancy): Dr. Christopher's Female Reproductive formula *the Changese formula and the Female Reproductive formula can both be used before, during and after pregnancy to build the reproductive system. Nausea: ginger, wild yam, Home-made ginger ale is delicious and soothing. Just combine sparkling water (or hot water if you prefer it hot), ginger, lemon and stevia (whole herb). You can use fresh ginger root (steeped into a tea), ground ginger or liquid ginger. I use the GAIA ginger root extract--it's potent and convenient. You can purchase at Whole Foods or from the web @ www.gaiaherbs.com.

Herbs for Pregnancy and Childbearing
If you are interested in using herbs for pregnancy and childbearing, it is advisable that you consult with an herbalist, naturopath or midwife to assist you in the process.

You can purchase at Whole Foods or from the web @ www.gaiaherbs.com. To prevent miscarriage: If the ovaries do not produce sufficient progesterone and estrogen levels remain high, miscarriage may result. Ginseng and/or sarsaparilla contain hormone precursors that help the body to produce sufficient progesterone to sustain the pregnancy.1 Vitamin C with bioflavanoids (also known as vitamin P). Independent medical research throughout the world has concluded the importance of bioflavanoids for strengthening the uterine wall to prevent miscarriage. Women that were habitual aborters were able to carry to full term by adding this important nutrient. To stop early labor: False unicorn (3 parts) and lobelia (1 part) (lobelia is a thinking herb and will stop labor if the baby is healthy and will assist the body in aborting if the baby is unable to thrive.)

Childbearing is a natural process and should not be treated like a disease.
