DESCRIPTION

SZ Issue 3 :: July/August 2009. Sandwich Zine is a bi-monthly grassroots/independent online publication. We are people with ideas and emotions to express. We are individuals with different needs and wants that cannot be satisfied by standardized objects of mass culture. The views expressed in this publication do not necessarily reflect the views of the overall zine or the views of all the zine contributors. We are different from each other, enough so that we may even disagree; however, we are similar enough that we can try to understand each other’s beliefs. We are collaborative in our drive towards dissemination of independent, alternative ideas. It's the best thing since sliced bread!

TAKE ADVANTAGE! Not of a drunk girl ..but of your backyard. It's not unnatural to take things like weather for granted. It's a fantasc part of our lives that we should

indulge in more oen. Take a minute to stop and feel like you're living in the moment because soon it will be gone and we'll be back in snowpants. Even though the other seasons are beauful, summer tends to be the season where most people are out-side, smiling, and well.. drunk. And who doesn't love inebriated adult glee on a

teeter toer? It's also the me of year when people love to fall in love. Something about thabout that 90 degree day when he "accidentally" threw his frisbee into your skull just

to meet you. And I mean... that's just cute. Aer all, what makes a woman woo more than the humility of sucking at frisbee? So use this fabulous me of year and have a thousand cookouts, spend every second at the pool and hit the courts instead of the gym. Even if you're sweang your clothes off, remember that you don't always

get to feel the sun burning through all three layers of your skin.

That being said, my first little life tidbit is to make a big decision. You've thought about (and analyzed) it enough ..the plunge awaits. Making a decision that changes your life is never easy. We all go through times of limbo where there are postivies and negatives to the options but the sooner we make up our minds the sooner we can have those experiences under our belt to be considered: Fulfilled. If you still need a push, there are only two outcomes: we can make

the mistake and learn or be in love with the next chapter where you are the pro-verbial pen. Sometimes we are in desperate need of the change and other times verbial pen. Sometimes we are in desperate need of the change and other times the outcome may disappoint. Either way, live and learn (and then get luvs).

Mistakes made and lessons learned, we've heard it all before. The point is you want things to happen and they're not just going to happen. Effort is required, batteries not included. Books are written about actions taken leading to the creation of extraordinary people; not Mr. & Mrs. Play-It-Safe. Take the leap and do something "crazy." Get a new job that makes you happier, break up with

someone you know you won't marry, ask for a raise or come out of the closet! As someone you know you won't marry, ask for a raise or come out of the closet! As stated, this isn't about spontinatey, it's about following through. If you need a change, excitement or just another chapter in your big ol life-book then write

it yourself. Believe it or not this relates to a rap song. Webbie and Lil Boosie's i-n-d-e-p-e-d-e-n-t song states it's crazy attractive when a woman is

independent and makes her own life happen all by herself aka does her own thang. So now, not only can you hook a rap star, but you're making yourself happy and

what could feel better than that? Hard work paying off, mm mmm good.what could feel better than that? Hard work paying off, mm mmm good.

Refill your coffee.. the Tip of your Morning is back. I've been weather-inspired recently and feel like drastic temperatures

call for drastic changes.

Back to you in meteorology...

Make an appointment! Since you just chowed down on a pound of bacon and your morning Prozac I'm going to make you feel bad about yourself. Even though vices are nice little things to have they're probably killing you. Don't you hate when older adults tell you to stop laying out or you'll have as many wrinkles as they do? No? Just me? Well I'm sure you've heard them either complain about their knees or make a jealous comment geared towards their knees or make a jealous comment geared towards your youth. And instead of being smug little bastards we should take care of the gift of our youth. If you think I stole that from "Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul" you're wrong; that was a Kristin Hanne original. You don't want cancer or rapid physical deterioration so let's take the time to be healthy. After all, it's a better method than keeping your fingers crossed. Prevention, method than keeping your fingers crossed. Prevention, people, prevention. We could all use a night-in, minus the alcohol plus truth or dare, a new read or unmentionable bedroom fun (yeah, I said it). No matter your age health is important. We're all old enough to know what's good for our bodies and our parents can only tell us so many times. (Plus they've asked me to con you into get-ting off their couch). Crazy thing is, exercising and eating well makes you feel good! And the best thing about doing this now is it's summer so you'll sweat twice as much! Yay. And no, I'm not talking about grilling-out meat sweats. More good news.. you can do it now and don't have to wait 6 months to make this your New Years resolution! In conclusion, call your freaking doctor and get (non-sexually, non-creepily) checked out. I want to get (non-sexually, non-creepily) checked out. I want to see all of you around for a very long time and you better make that happen :) My intention is to make your day much better than it could have been all through the power of your own good will. We could all use some luck and why

not create your own?

Yes, eat your toast crusts...

In Physical Form I remember you. I see the shape of you in objects — the curve of your nose in a cup handle, the bend of your pinky finger in a tree branch. Your scent lingered long after you’d gone and I fell asleep in the figment of your arms. I woke up alone. Unsure if you were ever in my bed at all. I forget you in between; can’t recall the times before and then see you as a stranger each time. But I remember you. I hear your voice in songs — the haunting tone of your vibration, the sudden sorrow of those few words. You act like you know me and you’re not impressed. You forget me in between too, but on purpose and hope to know nothing more than the remembered taste of my nipples. You are not a man. Not even an apparition. Perhaps only imagined, and even then, not quite fully. And I, I never existed.

The Truth Will Set You Free Sandi Casciato

Have you ever experienced genuine PEACE?

You know, those times—however brief or fleeting—when you felt that all was well with your soul? When we walk in genuine truth, we experience such peace. I have often heard that you can’t trust your emotions. While it is true that our emotions are not always an indicator of truth, they do reveal what we believe. What we believe is based on our interpretation of our life experiences. But what if our interpretation is wrong? Then we will live our lives based upon a lie that not only feels true, but the outcome will likely be the same as if the lie were true. In other words, life will confirm what we believe to be true--the inevitable “self-fulfilling prophesy.” Have you ever reacted emotionally to an event in a way that was more than what would be expected for the situation? This provides a clue to where our thinking may be in error. Why does one person take offense at a statement that another person does not? It is because of what they each believe. We are triggered when our lie is exposed. Most lies we believe are self-identity lies or lies that were true at one time, but are no longer true. Subconsciously, we are continually evaluating life’s events through our established belief system. When we encounter new experiences, we draw upon our reservoir of past experiences to interpret the situation based on our core beliefs. But how do we know if a belief is true or false? And how can it be changed? Countless, futile hours have been spent by those trying to talk themselves or others out of their faulty thinking only to discover a life-long struggle between what is logically known and what is emotionally felt. Logic is no match for what we “feel” at our core—particularly during a crisis.

Core belief: a belief that is deeply rooted in

your thinking—often concluded from earlier

life experiences.

Anxiety, fear, stress, and despair are examples of lie-based emotions. If we believe others are to blame for our negative feelings, we give them power over our lives since there is no hope for us unless they change. But if we are willing to take responsibility for our feelings, we can begin the process toward peace and freedom. Theophostic Prayer Ministry (TPM)1 is intentional, focused prayer to help people to identify their areas of wrong thinking.

Theos = God + Phostic = Light God’s light is Jesus—the Word and the Truth. When he speaks truth in a memory, darkness can no longer reside in that place and permanent freedom results. Darkness is merely the absence of light.

Peace follows truth just as pain follows a lie.

The TPM Process Summarized:

Identify and take responsibility for the emotional pain.

Release any defenses that can hinder the process.

Allow your mind to connect with the place where the belief was first embraced.

Discover the lie in the memory. Ask and receive God’s truth in that place.

Summary…

Our core beliefs are formed in our early life experiences.

Our emotions in any given situation will correspond with what we believe.

Current situations are interpreted by the mind based on beliefs established in the past.

Although the past cannot be changed, what we believe can be changed.

If I believe a lie, the consequences will be much the same as if it were true.

Lie-based pain can only be removed as lies are replaced with truth.

Our current emotion is the bridge to

the belief. It is in the original place where the belief was first embraced that we can ask and receive the truth.

Inappropriate behavior is often a means to manage pain. Addressing the behavior without resolving the lies may result in a continual cycle of defeat.

When a person knows the truth in these core places he will experience peace.

Mind renewal is a life-long process.

A personal story of TPM: I once had a fear of flying. When I allowed myself to feel the fear and connected with an earlier memory that matched this feeling, I identified the lie, which was: “I have to be in control. If I’m not in control, people will get hurt.” As a result of this belief, I vowed to always be in control--which was exhausting! Once I received truth--that I did not have to be in control if I allowed God to be in control--it gave me freedom in a way that I had never experienced. Notice that I had to be willing. God will never force himself on us; he always honors our free will. Genuine truth will never contradict God’s word (the bible). The word I received was confirmed by this. When we receive truth in a memory, the memory does not change but our interpretation of the event does. It is not the memory that causes our pain, but the lie that was believed as a result of the experience. When we receive truth from God, we do not have to work to sustain it because it changes our core belief in the place where we first embraced it. When we receive him—we embrace true peace. He is peace personified. When we go to a memory with Jesus, it is not the past for him since he is not subjected to time. (He is light and even science confirms that time stops when you reach the speed of light.) Therefore, the truth he gives us is a present reality and the experiential knowledge (lie) we once held is now replaced with a new experience (truth). Data (information) can only change data, but it takes an experience to change an experience. Only truth received from a personal encounter with Jesus can permanently free us from the lies we believe. The result is a transformed life. Is it really that inconceivable that our creator would want to be in communication with his creation? He is only limited by our unbelief. So often, we are unaware of the choices we are making daily that keep us from living the abundant life that God intended for us. When we deliberately slow down and think about what we’re thinking about, we can discover our wrong beliefs and release the roadblocks that limit us from achieving all that we were created to become.

“Paradigms power perceptions. Perceptions

power emotions. Most emotions are

responses to perceptions—what you think is

true about a given situation. If your

perception is false, then your emotional

response to it will be false too. So--check

your perceptions. And beyond that, check

the truthfulness of your paradigms—what

you believe. Just because you believe

something firmly, doesn’t make it true. Be

willing to re-examine what you believe. The

more you live in the truth, the more your

emotions will help you to see clearly.”
