Salavakkam Boys Home. There are 30children in the hostel. We help them regularly for educational expenses, food and Maintenance. The funds come from Mr. Petur Johnsson, Iceland. Salavakkam boys are being school fees and distributed items related to education.

Educational Programe- This is the joint venture between Friends of India and Team Builders of Tamil Nadu, India.Totally an amount of Rs.2,00,000/- (us $ 5000) . Out of which Rs.1,48,000/- given by Friends of India, Iceland and balance of Rs.1,52,000/- by various Team Builders in different areas of Tamil Nadu (13 participants). Hyundai car company donated 100 school bags. All purchases were done mostly through government shops with only bank transfers and maintained good level of transparency. The children are the direct beneficiaries .Total number of students benefitted are 645.

We have now 10 tuition centres. Each centre has 2 teachers . Though all of them are voluntary workers the teachers are paid Rs.750/- per month per teacher because of regular work for the students. Approximately 800 children are participating in this programe.

DISTANCE ADOPTION PROGRAMME

• Solveig/Dagrun from Friends of India, Iceland and a group of 10 member committee from India are the guiding force behind this most sucessful project.

• The school Fees/Tuition fees/Lab & Tour Fees are paid for the children. Uniforms 2 sets+Books and note books+school bag are supplied every year.

• In addition their medical expenses, bus fare, festival aid, new dress, footwear, raincoat, bedsheets are provided.

• The widow mother or widower is encouraged to set up his own business to be able to become independent in 3 years.

Arputharaj is a total orphan. He and his elder brother are living together. He cooks for himself. Local organization and IHA joined together to build a house

for him.

Sandhiya was given a goat. Today they have half a dozen goats.

Seminar

• Made several arrangements to contact different organisations to attend Phase I and now we have more than 25 Trusts already in IHA. There are nearly 20 more waiting to attend Phase I. We would like to thank Kartan , Guiness and Val for their excellent co operation in this regard and made these seminars a very sucessful. Also it helped us to establish in several ways.

• We would like to thank Val and Guiness specifically for valuable inputs and improvements in Phase I and other Administrative matters.
