PASTORAL MESSAGE “It is the Day of Resurrection: Let us be glorious in splen-dor for the Festival, and let us embrace one another. Let us speak also, O brethren, to those that hate us, and in the Resurrection, let us forgive all things, and so let us cry: Christ has risen from the dead, by death trampling upon Death, and has bestowed Life to those in the tombs.” Dear Faithful: Our Parish Family has been blessed and spiritually renewed with all our Lenten Renewal Programs, Bible Studies, worship, hospital and home visitations and most importantly...The Sacrament of Holy Confession. Lifting up the worldly burdens and awaiting the New Light of Faith! Indeed, we soon will embark upon the GREAT and SACRED PILGRIMAGE of Holy Week and Pascha. In solemn hymn and prayer we await the miracle of joy in His Sacred Resurrection. The NEW LIGHT of Christ...of Hope...of Love...of Abounding Devotion. Let us all gather in anticipation of the Great Feast in prayer, fasting and contrition. Let our voices rejoice in the great hymn of CHRISTOS ANESTE/CHRIST IS RISEN and let our hearts and souls be exalted in Love and Joy. The opportu-nity is again before us. Take hold of your faith and His Joy and partake in the Great Feast of Feasts. On behalf of Father Panagiotis, the Parish Council and all our Church Organi-zations; we wish one and all a Blessed and Joyous Pascha. We remain, In His Name,

Rev. Fr. James Dokos PROTOPRESBYTER

ASK Father Jim QUESTION: Is it true that there is NO FASTING for the entire 40 days after Easter? (A.P.) ANSWER: This is not true! The week following Pascha is known to we Or-thodox Christians as Bright Week. There is NO FASTING during this Pascha Week of Joy. Fasting does resume right after Bright Week and yes…we are then fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays during the rest of the Resurrectional Sea-son.

+HOLY PASCHA 2014+

IT IS THE DAY OF RESURRECTION; LET US BE GLORIOUS IN SPLENDOR FOR THE FESTIVAL, AND LET US EMBRACE ONE ANOTHER. LET US SPEAK ALSO, O BRETHREN, TO THOSE THAT HATE US, AND IN THE RESURRECTION, LET US FORGIVE ALL THINGS, AND SO LET US CRY: CHRIST HAS RISEN FROM THE DEAD, BY DEATH TRAMPLING UPON DEATH, AND HAS BESTOWED LIFE TO THOSE IN THE TOMBS. This is the day to rekindle our faith and to renew our Christian Stewardship of time, talent and tithing. Today is our golden opportunity to keep the Joy of the Lord in our hearts, minds and souls till our last breath of life. There is no other time than today to live Christ in all we do and say. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! We praise, O Christ, Thy Saving Passion and glorify Thy Sacred Resurrection.

CHRISTOS ANESTE…CHRIST IS RISEN TRULY, HE IS RISEN!

QUESTION: I’m convinced that Christians all love Jesus Christ. Even though the world is fast and sinful; is it safe to say that our love is evident to Christ? Taking time out to check my soul. (A.C.)

ANSWER: We love sweets, we love cars…our houses…our favorite restaurants. We say that we love much around us. The Christian use of the word LOVE takes on a serious examination and promise.

Christian Love means commitment, a serious act of selfless giving and total offering of one’s self to the world.

Do you love? The answer is found in John 14:15 “IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU WILL KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.” That means honoring parents; loving God; not stealing; not lying; keep-ing the Sabbath; no adultery; no murder; no false witness and no covetousness (lustful and pleasur-able desires). What a Spiritual Check-List!

You see…it takes a lot to LOVE as Orthodox Christians. Are you now convinced? I lovingly invite you and all Christians to get to work spiri-tually and cultivate true Christian Love! QUESTION: When did Holy Unction (oil) become part of the Church as we partake on Holy Wednesday? (P.A.)

ANSWER: The Sacrament of Holy Unction became part of our Holy Tradition with Jesus Christ and His Apostles. Healing was a frequent miracle in the Life of our Lord. We remember that Jesus in-structed the Disciples to do the same.

“And He called the twelve together and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infir-mity.” (Matthew 10:1)

“Is any sick among you? Let him call for Priests of the Church; and let them pray over him, anoint-ing him with oil in the Name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” (James 5:14-15)

Parish Council News

April, 2014 Greetings from your parish council! I hope you and your families are enjoying a blessed Lenten season and are finding it to be a time of spiritual growth and re-newal. Plans are in the works for a food festival (official name still being developed!), on September 6-7 at SS. Peter & Paul. Christy Gouletas is leading an enthusiastic group of volunteers in planning this event. The plans thus far include having the event indoors, keeping the parking lot available and hedging against the possibility of inclement weather. The planning meetings are being held the third Wednesday of every month, so if you're interested in helping out, show up to a meeting or let Christy know. I'm particularly excited that a group of our "20-somethings" are in-volved and taking on leadership responsibilities. A shout out to Nick Colis, Alex-andra Zubay, Dean Economos, and Allison and Kristen Desent (and others if I've forgotten). Keep up the good work and invite your friends. We had originally been given our financial assessment to the Archdiocese for 2014 that included a 7% increase from the 2013 level. Thank you to Steve Koulogeorge our Treasurer who submitted a very detailed appeal document, and Father Jim who delivered it, resulting in a decision from the Metropolis finance committee rees-tablishing our commitment at the prior 2013 level of $103,649. Many of you are aware of the problems we've had with providing a consistent level of heat in both the church and the community center. We've addressed the church issue after consultation with our HVAC vendor by replacing the thermostats, a rela-tively inexpensive fix. The problem in the classroom area, with some rooms being cool and others excessively warm is being addressed as well. There is a way to re-balance the system to provide more consistently comfortable temperatures on both sides of the building. This will be completed soon. On behalf of the parish council, I wish you a blessed Holy Week and joyous Pas-cha! Jim Santos President, Parish Council

HOPE: The Hope Group is observing a break from meeting for the remainder of the Lenten season. We will start our regularly scheduled meetings again following Pascha. Faith/Love/Joy: Faith Love & Joy had their biggest turn out of the year this past

month. It was great to see so many young faces gathered together in fellowship and to learn about our faith. FL&J spent their craft time on a project that helped to separate those things we should do more of and those things we should avoid during Lent. We also dis-cussed the Sunday of Orthodoxy and the im-portance of Icons in the life of an Orthodox Christian. We would like to invite all the elementary

school children to the next Faith Love & Joy night on April 1st.

Jr. G.O.Y. A. / Sr. G.O.Y.A.: GOYA met twice last month to focus on our Lenten Journey and to pre-pare for Pascha. We spent our time focusing on fasting, prayer and confession, and discussed how to bring Lent out of the Church and into our daily lives as young Orthodox Christians. Our second meeting of the month will be a GOYA BBQ and Bonfire to celebrate Bright week, and the breaking of the Fast after Pascha. Our GOYA meetings this month will be Tuesday April 8th& 22nd.
