Pastoral Message
Many thanks to you for supporting the Indian missions last week. This is a way to contribute to the development and promotion of missions in the world. This campaign was planned for the month of August, but due to the floods that occurred in India, it had to be moved.
This weekend we will have a second collection to help our brothers and sisters who suffered and are suffering the hardships of Hurricane Florence. Families have lost everything, some lost loved ones, and many have not been able to return to their homes. It is in these cases that we are called to practice charity. Those who can help, may God bless you and continue to pray for them and those in need in the world.
I also want to remind you that on October 20 and 21 the Diocese of Rockford is campaigning to attend different fields of mission in the church; This combined campaign is destined to support different places and works, such as World Mission Day, Missions in the United States, The Church in Latin America, The Church Africa, Membership in the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, and Catholic Elemtary School Support for the Diocese of Rockkford. I know that these campaigns are very close, but let's help in the best way, everyone according to their capabilities God bless you all. In Christ,

Muchas gracias a ustedes por apoyar la misiones de la India la semana pasada. Esta es una forma de contribuir al desarrollo y promoción de las misiones en el mundo. Esta campaña estaba
planeada para el mes de Agosto, pero debido a las inundaciones ocurridas en la India, esta tuvo que ser traslasdada. Este fin de semana vamos a tener una segunda colecta para ayudar a nuestros hermanos que sufrieron y sufren las cosecuencias del huracán Florence. Familias lo han perdido todo, algunos perdieron seres queridos, y muchos no ha podido regresar a sus casas. Es en estos casos concretos que somos llamados a practicar la caridad. Los que puedan ayudar, Dios los bendiga y continuemos en oración por ellos y los necesitados en el mundo. Tambien quiero recordarles que en Octubre 20 y 21 la Diócesis de Rockford realiza una campaña para asistir diferentes campos de mission en la iglesia; esta campaña es llamada “Misión conbinada” es decir está destinada a apoyar diferentes lugares y obras, como el Dia mundial de las misiones, las misiones en Estados Unidos, en Latino América, Africa, la propagación de la Fe, etc. Yo se que estas campañas quedan muy seguidas, pero ayudémos de la mejor manera, cada quien segun sus capacidades. Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish welcomes you to a teaching and exposition of Sacred Relics. Over 150 relics will be shown, some believed to be as old as 2000 years. Among the treasures will be relics of St. Andrew, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Maria Goretti, St. Therese of Lisieux (the “Little Flower”), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Faustina Kowalska. In addition, there will also be present a piece of a veil which is believed to have belonged to Our Lady and one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world. Deacon Information Days The beginning of 2019 reopens the time period of accepting new applications to the Rockford Diocese Permanent Di-aconate Formation Program. Men between the ages of 35 and 55 who are interested in becoming a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Rockford and who would like to apply must attend one of the three Deacon Informa on Days scheduled this Fall. For married men, wives must also attend. These days explain both the application process and give an overview of the Permanent Diaconate Formation Program. While there is no commitment required to attend one of these days, only those who attend will be eligible to apply. The dates are: October 13 November 17 December 1 All meetings are held between 10:00AM and 12:30PM at the Diocesan Administra on Building (555 Colman Center Drive, Rockford, IL 61125). Although not required, those interested are encouraged to contact the Permanent Diaconate Office (815-399-4300) to indicate which meeting they plan on attending or to ask further questions.

Good Behavior? By Fr. Sean Grismer Sometimes we can think hearing what God desires from us is like a reward for good behavior; “If I am good, then God will tell me what He
wants me to do.” That is not necessarily the case. In fact, there are MANY instances when God called somebody when they weren’t living healthy lives. Take St. Paul for example. He was on his way to impris-on and murder Christians when God called him from that way of life to a more perfect way of living. The same can be true for us- maybe not to the extent of St. Paul- but we don’t have to “be good” in order to hear His voice, but rather it will be His voice that leads us to a more healthy and perfect way of living. We simply have to give God the space to communicate His desires for us. Because once we do that, we begin to discover that His desires are in fact the deepest desires of our own hearts.
