Pastoral Message “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” To glorify God requires full commitment to Him. In Colossians 3:23 we read, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” About two years ago, the St. Rita of Cascia Catholic School Education Commission explored the possibility of putting their energy into writing a grant to support the growing needs of our school. With our teachers, parents and volun-teers, we brainstormed ideas of how to improve upon the already exceptional program we offer at St. Rita. We have a long history of preparing our student learners to enter high school with a strong foundation of skills. Our dedicated staff of teachers do an incredible job everyday but they need the tools to teach tomorrow’s leaders. Over the years, we have worked very hard to provide a means to reach our students with different learning styles. Integrating Smartboard technology has been a blessing to our students and teachers. It gives students the opportuni-ty to be engaged through all of their senses in learning. Visual images are so important for our children today. The connection between seeing and hearing supports all stu-dents; additionally, it helps our second language learners. Students today in high school are utilizing hand held devic-es to support learning. They can access the most current information in science, current events, math and so much more. They can have access to a wealth of reading materi-als that we cannot provide in our school library. They can make a virtual visit to the Vatican, the White House and around the world. The grant process was challenging but enlightening as we saw exciting new ways to deliver instruction to our stu-dents. After a yearlong research and writing process, on January 31st in the middle of Catholic Schools Week we submitted the final draft of our proposal, “Preparing for the Future with Today’s Technology.” Throughout the process, we prayed for
In the middle of dismissal on an ordinary day in May, I received an extraordinary call from Lindsay Cochrane the Program Director of the Dunham Fund to inform me that St. Rita of Cascia School was approved to receive a grant in the amount of $275,000.00. On May 31st, as the children were running around on field day, we were presented with the first installment of $150,000.00 to do phase 1. I am also very pleased to announce that during this pro-cess, St. Rita School and St. Rita Parish will work together to provide ESL classes through the St. Rita of Cascia Adult Literacy Program. Our diversity is our strength, and we want to support our parents, grandparents, and parishion-ers to acquire English skills to help with communication at home and in the workplace. We are very grateful to the Dunham Fund for providing this wonderful gift that will continue to give our students (both children and adults) the tools to build a bright future in high school, college and beyond. The people of St. Rita of Cascia Parish have always been generous in their support of our parish school. “Cast your bread upon the waters and it will come back to you ten-fold.” I see this as the reward for the hard work, generous giving and prayerful support we have accomplished togeth-er. Summer is here, school is over (or almost). Here are some ideas for you to do this summer.
Spend more time out of your bed than in your bed. Sleep outside once a week and invite more and more friends to join the camp out each week. Make pancakes in the morning. Stop trying to get a beach-bod and instead challenge yourself to make 3 healthy changes this Summer. To new healthy habits, drink more water and less soda. Learn a new prayer. Maybe the St. Michael prayer for your future soda cravings. You can google the St. Michael prayer and save it to your phone.

Totus Tuus un éxito en Santa Rita
Totus Tuus fue un gran éxito en Santa Rita gracias a los esfuer-zos combinados de voluntarios y personas que nos apoyaron y creyeron en este programa. Del 10 al 15 de junio niños y adolescentes del 1ro al 12avo año aprendieron más sobre su fe de una manera divertida con chi-cos y chicas jóvenes guiándoles a través de diferentes activida-des. La misa diaria fue parte del campamento y los niños partic-iparon como lectores durante toda la semana. El campamento terminó con una fiesta de pizza y una pelea de crema de afeitar para los adolescentes y un picnic con perros calientes para los más pequeños. Como recompensa por su buen compor-tamiento durante la semana, el seminarista Connor fue selec-cionado para ser convertido en un helado humano por la clase con el mejor comportamiento. Esta es la primera vez que este campamento se lleva a cabo en Aurora y el apoyo de la comunidad de Santa Rita fue clave para su éxito: padres que inscribieron a sus hijos y trajeron refrigeri-os, voluntarios que ayudaron a recibir a los niños al inicio del día, voluntarios a la hora del almuerzo, adolescentes que ayudaron en la mañana con los más pequeños y regresaron por la noche para participar, jóvenes guerreros de oración que fueron un ejemplo para los niños y los feligreses que no pu-dieron estar aquí para ayudar pero que hicieron donativos para la causa. ¡Gracia Santa Rita por su apoyo a este campamento de verano!
Totus Tuus a success at St Rita
Totus Tuus was a huge success at St. Rita, thanks to the combined efforts of volunteers and supporters who believed in this program. From June 10 to June 15 children and teens from 1st to 12th grade learned more about their faith in a fun way, with young women and men leading them through different activi-ties. Daily mass was part of the camp and children were lec-tors during the week. The camp ended with a pizza night and shaving cream fight for the teens and a hot dog lunch for the younger ones. As a reward for the good behavior during the week, seminarian Connor was selected to be turned into a human sundae by the best-behaved class. This is the first time this camp has taken place in Aurora and the support from the St. Rita Community was key to its suc-cess: parents who enrolled their children and brought snacks, volunteers who helped receive children and hand them over to the parents at the end of the day, lunch time volunteers, teens who helped in the morning with the young ones and came back in the evening to participate, young prayer warriors who were an example to the children, parishioners who couldn’t be here to help but donated to the cause. Thank you St. Rita of Cascia for your support!

Woman of Inspiration Nominations Open
If you know a woman in our parish that is faith-filled, who participates in worship and is active in the parish or in the community at large -and radiates Christ in her actions and words… nominate her as a Woman of Inspiration. This recognition is given to women in the Rockford Diocese who live their faith and lead by example. St. Rita is blessed to have many women who fit this description. To streamline the process in our parish and to give opportunity to all women from our diverse community to be considered, from now on one year the nominees will be from the English masses and another year from the Spanish masses. The woman of inspira-tion will be then selected by a committee. This year we will be nominating women who attend English masses. Nominations may be placed in the container set up in the gathering space for this purpose. The women selected by each parish in the Aurora Deanery will be honored during a dinner August 26th at Piper Banquets in Aurora.

Vocation Summer Camps The Vocation Office of the Diocese of Rockford is once again sponsoring fun filled summer camps and retreats at Bishop Lane Retreat Center. St. Therese Camp and Retreat, for young women in 7th grade thru college age will take place from June 24 – 27th with Sisters from different communities joining us. Jeremiah Days, for boys in 7th grade thru 9th grades, July 8th – 11th and First Call Retreat, for young adult males entering 10th grade and thru college, July 15th – 18th our seminarians studying for our diocese will be facilitating this camp and retreat along with Fr.
