SAINT PETER PARISH NORTH SIDE, PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA
From Father Thomas More, OSB
I wish to express my gratitude to the parish
community for your gracious hospitality and
welcome expressed to me in various ways
throughout this past week. Your prayerfulness at the
Masses on the Feast of Pentecost was a true
inspiration to me. I have been blessed to be
assigned here. Together may we remain open to
new opportunities to grow in our Catholic faith and
to express that faith in numerous ways. As a
Benedictine monk and priest, I have received
valuable and unique insights from each of my
assignments. I anticipate that the community of
Saint Peter Parish will hold a special place among
the various places where I have served.
As we are now challenged to look to the
future of our parish communities on the Northside,
may we keep our lives firmly rooted in our faith and
nourished through the sacraments. I anticipate that
our parish family has much to offer the larger
Catholic community around us as we together
move forward.
Go, Therefore, and Make Disciples of All Nations
The history of missionary activity in the
Church is vibrant and fascinating. From
the Apostles who first heeded the call of
Jesus to “Go and make disciples of all nations” to
famous missionaries like Saint Francis Xavier and the
Jesuits or Saint Teresa of Calcutta and the
Missionaries of Charity, there is a long tradition of
those who have traveled far from home to bring the
good news of Jesus to every corner of the world,
even at the cost of their own lives. Today, the
missionary work of the Church doesn’t have to take
us to the ends of the world, but just to the end of our
street. The message of hope and new life of the
Gospel is ours to share with family, neighbors, co-
workers and strangers as we seek to continue the
work of Jesus in the world today. At its heart, On
Mission for The Church Alive! is an opportunity for us
to be renewed in faith and sent forth to make new
disciples in our parishes, our neighborhoods and
throughout the whole world. Ask God for an
abundance of his gifts to make this a reality in your
life each day. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn
more and to stay informed. Schedule Change Due to the legal holiday, our daily Mass on Memorial
Day, tomorrow, Monday, May 28, will be celebrated
in Saint Peter Church at 10 a.m. There will be no 12:05
p.m. Mass on Memorial Day. In addition, because of
the holiday the parish office will be closed on
Monday. The office will reopen on Tuesday, May 29.

News from Northside Catholic School
Northside Catholic School had a beautiful May
Crowning recently. Eighth Grade received the
sacrament of Confirmation and is continuing to learn
what it means to live in the Catholic Christian way. First
Grade has been talking about Our Mother Mary and
the Saints and will be doing a project on their favorite
saint. Sixth grade had to look up Bible verses to get
ingredients for a recipe for Scripture Cake. It was an
unusual taste to most of the students. We have a
student teacher in 4 grade, Ms. Goodwin, who is
helping the students learn about God’s love, the Solar
System and the regions of the United States. Many
wonderful things are happening at our great school as
we wind down the school year. For more information
on our preschool through 8 grade school, please call
412.761.5043 ext. 101.
Family Movie Night
Children preschool through 6 grade and their
families are invited to a free movie night featuring
Disney Pixar’s “Coco”. The event will be held in Saint
Peter Church hall, Friday June 1 at 6:30 p.m. Please
see the bulletin for more information or contact
Teresa, 724.366.7198, or [email protected].
Memorial Day Prayer
Heavenly Father, we pray for those
who courageously laid down their
lives for the cause of freedom. May
the examples of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless
love of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Bless the
families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and
their lives with Your strength and peace. In union with
people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to
answer the call to work for peace and justice, and
thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the
globe. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Please Pray For
All of the sick of our parish, the homebound, those in
nursing homes, those who care for them, and those
in the military.
Theology of the Body Book Study

Vocations Office will host a two-part study of this book
on June 3 and July 1 at St. Paul Seminary from 5:30 pm
to 8:30 pm. Both evenings will include Mass, a BBQ,
and a discussion led by Father Mike Ackerman. All
young adults (ages 18-40) welcome. No cost. Book
provided. Spaces limited. Visit PGHPriest.com for more
