Page 2 Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Friends in Christ, Our summer series on the principles of Catholic Social Teaching concludes this weekend. I hope that it has helped you to know more about these essential Church teachings. Please let me know if there is a topic that you would like to have covered or answered in upcoming bulletins. In Christ, Father Godwin

Catholic Social Teaching

A Central and Essential Element of our Faith

This summer we have explored the rich treasure of the Church’s Social Teaching which provides wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. This week we conclude this series with some pictures and sayings that encompass the seven principles that we reviewed over the past weeks: (1) Life and Dignity of the Human Person; (2) Call to Family, Community & Participation; (3) Rights and Responsibilities: (4) Option for the Poor & Vulnerable; (5) The Dignity of Work and the Right of Workers; (6) Solidarity and (7) Care for God’s Crea-tion.

School has begun for our area children with many schools returning to remote learning instead of in-school instruction. Working families have found themselves with daycare expenses for their elementary-age children at

a time of year when they can typically count on their children being in school all day. These additional expens-es are a financial stress for families, leading many to make difficult choices on which bills to pay. In addition to helping families avoid disconnection from key utilities St. Vincent de Paul also provides food support to area families who call with a need. Bags of food are supple-mented with a gift certificate to an area grocery store, so families can purchase fresh produce, dairy and meats. Your donations to SVdP through GiveCentral and the church Poor Box make this support possible. This month, we also appreciate the donations of shampoo. Proverbs 31:20 “She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.”

Dear Parishioners,

Thank you for your continued support of our parish, especially during this difficult time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The reality of the Covid-19 pandemic has necessitated the use of electronic means in order to reach our parishioners who are un-able to come to church. I looked into the system that we currently have installed and it is over 11 years old. We realize its functionality is not up to date in terms of quality and efficiency.

The staff has done some research and we have found a new sound and video system that will cost an estimated $8,000. For that reason, our parish is appealing to any group or individuals who would like to donate

towards our goal.

Please contact me at [email protected] or Megan Doherty at [email protected] or call the parish office at 815-385-0025 X202 with any questions or to make a donation.

One more time thank you for your generous sacrificial gift.

Fr. Godwin

Word of Life

“God’s love—individual, real, unchanging—is the true source of our worth, identity and dignity. It really is not a question of who we are, but rather whose we are. Because His love will never change, nothing can reduce our God-given dignity, and nothing can diminish the immeasurable worth of our lives.”

under 7 years of age: To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office. Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month immediately after the 11AM Mass. Please con-sider scheduling your child’s Baptism before your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is required for the parents. This is a one session class that is held on the 1st Sunday of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born. You must be a regis-tered parishioner of St. Patrick prior to scheduling a Baptism.

Sacrament of Marriage: At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an overview of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be registered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Pat-rick Church in order to be married at the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.

Annulment Process - Information

If you or someone you know needs a previous marriage investigated for its validity or invalidity (the annulment process) so that you may fully participate in your Catholic faith or become Catholic please call the Tribunal Office at 815-399-4300.

St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish Registration -

Do You Need to Register?

ARE YOU: (1) New to the parish; (2) Moving back; (3) Just Married; (4) Attending mass but never officially registered? (5) Even if you grew up in St. Patrick, you (as an adult—18+) need to register independent from your parents.

Please do not take your church registration for grant-ed. Attending Mass is not enough; there must be an offi-cial record of your membership in the Parish. Parish reg-istration is essential for many reasons. It becomes im-portant when you or your family members are receiving the Sacraments - First Communion, Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage. Registration is also required for those wish-ing to become a Baptism or Confirmation sponsor. In addi-tion, becoming a member of a parish gives one the identity of belonging to a family—the parish family of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

If you are not officially registered with the parish, please do so as soon as possible. All you have to do is contact the parish office at 815-385-0025 or stop in during office hours and request a registration packet. Registration packets are also available on the parish website at www.stpatrickmchenry.org—just click on Registration at the top of the home page.
