Decimosexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 19 de Julio 2020

My brothers and sisters in Christ, St. Mary’s, the City of Waltham and the Nocera family and I said goodbye to a faithful son, father and friend last week – Lou Noc-era. Lou was a lifelong parishioner of the parish, a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and the owner of The Chateau Restaurant. Normally his body would have been driven down Moody Street from Brasco Funeral Home to the church. This year they had to take an alternative route because the street is shutdown to help the local businesses. Normally the church would have been packed for his funeral Mass, even at a time when fewer and fewer people attend funerals. Lou’s funeral had to be limited to mostly family and some close friends. Yet the restrictions didn’t stop us from doing what we would have done under normal circumstances – remember the good that was done through his life while he was with us on earth and entrust his soul to the Mercy of God. In oth-ers words, we would have continued to love him through prayer just as we would have without the restrictions. Divine Providence had it so that while Lou’s funeral was taking place in the Church, the volunteers of Healthy Waltham were in the church parking lot getting ready to distribute free food to those in need. Later on in the day, over 600 families received a lot of food for their families. The people were fed as Lou Nocera fed hundreds and hundreds of people through his restaurants and his generosity throughout his life. May he rest in peace. – Fr. Michael

QUO VADIS RETREAT– WHERE ARE YOU GOING? For the past few years the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese has been sponsoring an overnight retreat for teenage boys. Last year we sent five teenagers from the parish. They had a great time with sports, games, prayer and talks that helped them discern God’s plan for their lives. They cannot offer the retreat this year so we are hosting one for the parish. We will spend August 3-5 with a socially adapted retreat which will bring the young men closer to God... and somewhere other than their homes for a few days. The first day will include walking, archery and a movie. The second day will center on a trip to good Harbor Beach in Gloucester. The third day will include a biking trip. Mass and prayer, food and talks will be organized by Fr. Michael and some of the Boston seminarians. Any teenage boys who would benefit and enjoy this experience are welcome to join us. See the flyer in this bulletin and do not hesitate to contact the parish office by email or speak with Fr. Michael or Steven our summer seminari-an. If anyone wants to help us cover the expenses of the retreat please send a donation to the office earmarked QUO VADIS RE-TREAT.

PLEASE PRAY FOR . . . Patricia, Joseph Cincotta, Susan, Gloria Wentling, Teresa, Frank Chiasson, Joseph Mutyaba, all the sick and suffering.

MISSALETTESWe received a shipment of missalettes just before the suspension of public Masses. We can’t put them in the pews due to the pre-cautions. We are inviting worshippers to take them and use them in your homes. We suggest that you use them to read the reading before you come to Mass on the weekends. It may not be a good idea to bring them into the church because receiving Holy Com-munion requires that both your hands are free to receive the Host in as reverent a manner as possible. We also do not want people leaving missalettes in the pews. We could cancel future subscrip-tions but we would lose the privilege to play music at Masses and funerals because of copyright laws. So we may have to keep re-ceiving them in the future even if we can’t use them in Mass. Everything is complicated. The missalettes will be at the exits of the church.

BICYCLE DONATIONS We are planning a biking trip during the vocation retreat for teen-age boys in the parish, but not everyone has a bike and helmet. Please consider donating bikes and bike helmets to the parish. They will be used well and the kids without bikes will be grateful.

OFFERTORYThank you for your generous offering to our parish.

HEMOS VUELTO!!

EL GRUPO DE ORACION DE LA RENOVACION CARISMATICA, LES ESPERA LOS SABADOS PARA REFLEXIONAR LA PALABRA DE DIOS, Y PARA GOZARNOS EN EL SEÑOR. NO TE LO PIERDAS, VEN Y VIVE LA EXPERIENCIA CON EL SEÑOR!!
