Saint Joseph Basilica November 29th, 2020 3

After visiting a local amusement park with their 5th grade class, a group of giggling girls explained why the haunted house was their favorite. You always had to be ready in case something or someone jumped out of the dark to scare you. If you were ready, it wasn’t so bad. But if not, the house was really scary! Jesus tells his disciples to be alert and prepared for the appointed time, the coming of the Lord. No one knows, nor can anyone calculate when Christ will come again. But we need to be prepared, living every moment of life as though it were our last. Faith is not only a way of life, but also a way to life. Be alert so as not to lose the way. Advent is a time of preparation for Christ, anticipating both His birth and His coming again. It reminds us

to be prepared and alert, living a life of faith, responding to God’s grace and proclaiming through word and deed that Jesus Christ is com-ing. Don’t let the familiarity of the message dull its pointed warning. Don’t take faith, or life, or grace for granted. Do not fear. Be ready, confident and trusting. It’s really not bad!

Saint Vincent de Paul: As we begin Advent we are called to “Be watchful! Be alert” as we stand in joyful anticipation for the grace of Christmas to once again bless our lives. Your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box will help the poor to celebrate the grace of God’s love this Christmas.

1st Sunday of Advent November 29, 2020

“Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time will come.” Mark 13:33

THANK YOU Thank you to all the parishioners and friends of St. Joseph parish who have been generously contributing to the church and the school during these difficult times. I am most grateful for your support. God bless you.

VOTIVE MASS AND NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH Every Wednesday we have the opportunity to pray to God through the intercession of St. Joseph for our intentions. St. Joseph is a powerful inter-cessor and we can bring our needs and petitions to him. Please join us at 7:00pm in our weekly Novena and Devotion to our Patron. You may want to state your intentions on the petition slips available in Our

Lady of Czestochowa Chapel to be read during the devotion.

2021 CALENDARS We thank Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home for once again providing us informative and beautifully designed English and Polish Calendars. The calendars indicate Holy Days and Saints’ Feast days. They are available in the sacristy and the rectory for a free will offering.

Stewardship Note: We all take things for granted. In particular, we take time for granted. We make our lives too busy. We plan our time, our days, weeks, months, even years in advance. Remember, our time on earth is a gift. None of us knows how long we will be here. Start today and begin thank-ing God for each and every day. Take time in silence every day, and listen to how God is calling you right now to help build His kingdom on earth.

NEW MISSALETTES AVAILABLE The new 2020 - 2021 Polish/English missalettes are available at the entrances of the church or at the rectory. You may want a copy to follow along with the mass during live streaming or in person. They will not be available in the pews. A free will donation may be put in the collection basket.

Today, we enter the new liturgical year. We will go again on the path of discovering Jesus, listening to His words and admiring His works, beginning with the miraculous Annunciation. The beginning of Advent gives us the opportunity to look at our spirituality from a new perspective. Once again, we can join the mys-tery of God's revelation in human history from the very beginning. We can become part of His plan of

salvation and let ourselves be guided by His will. Today, we begin four weeks of Advent preparations. Let us remember that without a well-lived Advent, we cannot experience greatness of Christ-mas, that is, to understand and accept the Newborn into our hearts. Let us not spend this time just on decorating the perfect Christmas tree or search-ing for the right gifts. Let us take part in the morning Rorate Mass, let's sing together "Drop down dew, ye heavens”. Let's take the challenge for inner silence, which will allow us to discover imperfections and errors, and consequently lead us to a humble confession, where we will throw out the burden of human errors and imperfections standing in the way and make a place for baby Jesus wishing to find a place in our hearts. I wish you a blessed and thoughtful time of preparation for the coming of the Lord. - Fr. Gregory

To help support the parish, you may mail your envelopes to the rectory, drop them off, or give online. This information can be found on the parish website.

There is no second collection this weekend. Next weekend’s second collection is for Higher Utility and Energy Costs.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION Since you are not able to attend Mass physically, you may watch it on TV and receive spiritual communion. Begin by examining your conscience and making a good Act of Contrition. Then pray one of the prayers recommended by the Saints for inviting Christ into your heart. Here is one by Saint Alphonsus Liguori: My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desi-re to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite my-self wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

RE- OPENING OF THE BASILICA Weekend masses will be celebrated at the regular times and accessible for parishioners to attend.

However, we need to follow certain rules and restrictions:

Everyone has to wear a mask. All members of the congregation are required to observe a minimum of a 6-foot social distance. (Members living in the same home can sit closer in the pew.) Also a 6-foot distance has to be kept entering and exiting the church. Communion will be distributed only in the hand. There will be no collection during the Mass. Baskets will be availa-ble at the entrances. No hymnals will be available in the pews. No congregational singing is allowed. There will be no offertory procession as well as the entrance and recessional processions. No sign of peace.

Continuing Suspension of the Sunday Obligation

Because older adults and those with underlying health conditions con-tinue to be advised to avoid public assemblies, the suspension of the obli-gation to attend Mass on Sundays will remain in force until February 21, 2021.

Masses will continue to be streamed live for those who are not com-fortable to attend in person.

PIERWSZA NIEDZIELA ADWNTU 29 listopada, 2020

“Uważajcie, czuwajcie, bo nie wiecie, kiedy czas ten nadejdzie.” (Mk 13, 33)

Pan Jezus trzykrotnie w dzisiejszej Ewangelii wzywa nas: "Czuwajcie!”.

A wtedy nasze modlitewne czuwanie zaowocuje.

On Monday, November 23rd, the students, faculty, and staff of St. Joseph School continued their annual Thanksgiving traditions. As the students began the holiday week, they joined to give thanks for their many blessings and collect food for local families in need. Each class was responsible for bringing in items that would complete a Thanksgiving dinner. Younger students, including the three pre-kindergarten classes, contributed brownie mixes for dessert, while older students donated stuffing mix, gravy, cranberry sauce, canned vege-tables, and potatoes. Turkeys donated by the St. Joseph Basilica Knights of Columbus completed the meal. Although the entire student body could not gather in the school's corridors as they have in years past, the spirit of Thanksgiving was still felt throughout the building as stu-dents watched the LIVE Stream of the 6th Grade students leading the prayers. Following the service, students dropped their donations into grocery bags that lined the first-floor hallway. The students collected enough food for 20 individual Thanksgiving meals. Then, on Tuesday, November 24th, the St. Joseph School community gathered for their Annual Thanksgiving Feast. Although the meal had to be served over five lunch periods because the school could not come together as one group, it was still a time for the students to cele-brate the holiday. Everyone enjoyed delicious homemade turkey, creamy mashed potatoes, and savory stuffing prepared by the St. Joseph School cafeteria staff. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has overshadowed this school year, the Thanksgiving holiday events at St. Joseph School have been very festive. The students are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to in-person learning and be with their clas-smates and teachers.

kornego konfesjonału, gdzie zrzucimy z siebie ciężar ludzkich błędów i niedoskonałości, stojących na drodze "maleńkiej miłości" pragnącej znaleźć miejsce w każdym ludzkim sercu. Życzę Wam Błogosławionego i głęboko przeżytego czasu przygotowań na przyjście Pana. - Ks. Grzegorz

POMOC NA OGRZEWANIE Organizacja “Helping Address the Needs of Dud-ley’s Seniors” (HANDS) oferuje pomoc w opłaceniu rachunków za ogrzewanie dla osób powyżej 60 roku życia zamieszkujących w Dudlej.
