Update on the Heritage of Faith - Vision of Hope Campaign

When we began our Heritage of Faith - Vision of Hope Campaign, the stated purposes for our par-

ish’s share was to: Repave our parking lot

Replace the encasements of the stained glass windows

Restore the windows in the cafeteria To date we have completed: the parking lot repaving

With a portion of the monies currently available, $34,000, from the Heritage of Faith - Vision of Hope funds, Msgr. McAteer, with the support of the Parish Finance Council, plans to pay for the installation of a new boiler in the

school and church. This project was not named in the original case

statement, though it is in keeping with the intent of the projects listed, namely to complete capital improvements for the betterment of the

parish. Therefore it is important to communicate this intended change in the use of the funds to the

campaign’s donors. Monsignor plans to request the needed funds

for this project in 4 weeks. If you are a Heritage of Faith - Vision of Hope donor and if

you have any questions or objections, please contact Msgr. McAteer or Deacon DeBow by calling the parish office at 215-245-1698 or

by e-mailing [email protected]

Why Monday, August 15th, 2016 is not a Holy Day of Obligation

In the early 1990’s, the Bishops’ Conference realized that in many rural dioceses, Catholics live far away from their parish church. The Bishops decided

that it would be prudent not to ask Catholics to travel long distances to church on 2 consecutive days, eg. Saturday and Sunday or

Sunday and Monday. For this reason when August 15th (The Assumption of

Mary), November 1st (All Saints’ Day) and January 1st (Mary, the Mother of God) fall on a

Saturday or Monday, they are not days of obligation. St. Ephrem Mass Schedule for Monday, August 15th,

2016, is the regular weekday schedule: 7:00am and 8:30am

RCIA The RCIA (Catechumenate) is a process by which

adults and young adults are initiated into the Roman Catholic community, i.e. St. Ephrem Parish

Family. The letters R C I A refer to the Rite of Christian Ini-

tiation for Adults. The RCIA Process guides interested young adults

and adults as they inquire and question their beliefs, and they are gradually introduced to the

Catholic way of life. This Process includes planned stages, marked by liturgical Rites within the Parish Celebrations, leading to a continuing and deepen-

ing conversion in Faith and Discipleship. The individual Faith Tradition and spiritual needs

and concerns of each candidate [unbaptized, baptized or dedicated] are considered with respect and understanding. Those who are unbaptized and practicing Christians from other Faith Traditions

are most welcome. Come and See! The Information Night is intended for those that are interested in exploring the Catholic faith or would like to be initiated into the Roman Catholic Com-munity as well as those already Baptized in the

Catholic Church but have not yet received the Sac-raments of Holy Eucharist and/or

Confirmation. Come and See! Information Night - Come and See! Thursday, September 29th @ 7pm

Marian Parish Center Informal Instructions will begin in October. These sessions are a time of inquiry and questions into

the Catholic Faith, which may lead one to embrace the Catholic Church through a process of

conversion. All are most welcome. For questions or information, you may contact Gerri

Donnelly (215-638-7184) or Fr. Dragon (Rectory Office 215-245-1698) or (e-mail: [email protected]

MOVIE – Mother Teresa

In an acclaimed film portrayal, Olivia Hussey illuminates the life story of

Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the selfless missionary who brought hope, love

and salvation to the poorest of the poor. Her faith and good works

transcended hardships and ultimately earned her international acclaim,

including the Nobel Peace Prize.

The many small miracles, great charity and humble triumphs of Mother

Teresa will inspire you in this poignant tale of a modern-day saint. A perfect

example of the Corporal Works of Mercy in this Jubilee Year of Mercy!

Mother Teresa to be canonized on Sept. 4th

Pope Francis will declare Blessed Teresa of

Kolkata a saint at the Vatican, Sept. 4th.

Mother Teresa was widely known as a living saint as she ministered to the sick and dying in some of the poorest neighborhoods in the world. Although some people criticized her for not also challenging the injustices that kept so many people so poor and abandoned, her simple service touched the hearts of

millions of people of all faiths.

Born to an ethnic Albanian family in Skopje, in what is now part of Macedonia, she went to India in 1929 as a Sister of Loreto and became an Indian citizen in 1947. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in

1950.

Shortly after she died in 1997, St. John Paul II waived the usual five-year waiting period and allowed the opening of the process to

declare her sainthood.

She was beatified in 2003.

The date chosen for her canonization is the eve of the 19th anniversary of her death and the date previously established at the Vatican for the conclusion of the Year of Mercy pilgrimage of people

like her who are engaged in works of mercy.
