My Dear Parishioners,

Now that the climax of our 50th An-

niversary (namely the Mass of Thanks-

giving and the Anniversary Banquet has

come and gone, we set our sights on the

one remaining part of our historic year,

and that is our Golden Anniversary

Parish History Book. The Commemo-

rative Book Committee has met numerous times over the

past year, gathering the pictures and stories you so gra-

ciously submitted, and will soon be completing the final

writing and editing of the material. It will be a truly his-

toric keepsake, in the style of a "coffee table book," that

will be enjoyed for years to come.

Through the generosity of the donors to the anniver-

sary, the book will be kept at a reasonable cost. The com-

mittee is giving all of our parishioners the opportunity to

have their name included in the book. A $35 donation will

include the donor's name in a special section of the book,

and entitle the donor to a free copy. It is our hope that the

book will be published and ready for distribution by

Thanksgiving, and serve as a suitable Christmas gift.

With the anniversary behind us, we also turn our

parish's attention to the historic World Meeting of Fami-

lies (WMOF), taking place in Philadelphia Sept. 22

through Sept. 27, 2015. The Catholic Church has always

taught, and constantly reaffirms, the centrality and im-

portance of family life for the good of the Church, and

society in general. The WMOF will provide the oppor-

tunity for all of us to reflect on our family life, and how

we can strengthen and preserve it.

I invite everyone to access our parish website

(www.st-bede.org), for we have begun to fill it with a lot

of information relative to that special week. Of course, the

highlight of the WMOF is the Holy Father's visit on Sat-

urday-Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27. We have reserved four

buses for the Papal Mass on Sunday. The buses will leave

(more than likely) mid-morning, and return Sunday even-

ing, considering traffic, security, etc. The Mass is antici-

pated to start around 3:30 p.m., in front of the Philadelph-

ia Museum of Art.

More information will be forthcoming. This will be an

exciting time for all of us Catholics in the area. We look

forward to the arrival of Pope Francis!

May God Bless You,

June 21, 2015

Job 38:1, 8–11

Psalm 107

2 Corinthians 5:14–17

Mark 4:35–41

In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus is shown to have the same author-

ity over the powers of nature that we see attributed to God in

the first reading. Indeed, the disciples are filled with wonder

and awe. Listening to these words, what can we say about

the authority that Jesus possesses over our world today and

over our own lives? What might this say about our faith in

Him?

Rev. Monsignor John C. Marine

Remember The Deceased David Holthenrichs, Walter Boyko Jr.

We are united in prayer with their families and with one

another awe and all the faithful departed await our rising with

the Lord.

St. Bede the Venerable Parish

1071 Holland Road

Holland, PA 18966-2399

Dear Msgr. Marine and Parishioners,

Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality on Sun-

day when I joined you for the 50th anniversary of St. Bede the

Venerable Parish. I very much enjoyed our celebration and

having a chance to greet many of you. St. Bede the Venerable

is a wonderful example of faithful Catholic life in the Archdio-

cese of Philadelphia.

I am deeply grateful for the gift that the parish has given to

the new ministry of the Mother of Mercy House in Kensington.

I know that both Father Joseph Devlin and Father William

Murphy will be very grateful for this assistance. Thank you for

your good example.

May the Lord bless you with peace, joy and every blessing,

and give you an enduring holy and happy parish life.

Sincerely and gratefully yours in Christ,

Adoration SocietyAdoration Society "I am with you always, even to the end of the world”

(MT. 28:20)

“Jesus calls us to know and love Him so that we might

better follow Him. What better way is there to grow close to

Him than in the stillness of prayer before Him in the Blessed

Eucharist, Before Him in the tabernacle or exposed in the Mon-

strance, we spend time in His Presence, listening to Him,

speaking to Him, asking to grow closer to Him.

It is a privilege for us to be able to spend time before Jesus

in the Blessed Sacrament. During those precious moments we

sense Jesus’ tremendous love for us. We bring to Him our joys

and our sorrows, we talk to Him about the needs of those

around us, and we ask for that deep conversion of heart and

mind that will make us one with Him.

Amid the rush and noise of the world we draw apart for a

time to be quiet in mind and spirit to contemplate the great love

of God for us.” (a quote from Rev. B. J. Hickey)

Please stop by and visit Jesus in our chapel adjacent to the

parish offices in the St. Katharine Drexel Center. The chapel

is open 7 days a week / 24 hours a day!

For more information or to sign up for a scheduled open

hour, please contact Sean & Debbie McDermott (215)-504-

9897 or e-mail us at [email protected].

Everyone is invited. Everyone is needed!

New Window Coming Soon

The Daily Mass Chapel is going to get a lot more colorful very soon, with the addition of a window depicting Saint Francis! It’s appropriate that the scene has Saint Francis, the patron saint of animals, surrounded by animals which are indigenous to our area. Many thanks to the patrons who have sponsored this window, which should be installed in the not-too distant future.

St. Bede 103 June 14, 2015

As we ended the 2014-2015 school year

this past Friday, we pray that the virtues we

have practiced all year will continue to grow

in the hearts of our students. We encourage

our students to continue to practice the vir-

tues of kindness, honesty, peace, patience,

charity, generosity, self-control, faithful-

ness, and justice during the summer, next school year, and all

the years of their lives.

Please join me in congratulating Saint Katharine Drexel’s

graduating Class of 2015! We are so proud of them. It has

been a privilege to get to know each of them and to watch them

grow. We know they will continue to make us proud as they

move on to high school. In the words of Pope Francis, “Do not

bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be

afraid to dream of great things!”

I would like to personally thank you, the parishioners, for

your prayers and support during my first year as principal of

Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic School. It has been a wonder-

ful year! God has blessed us with many gifts and opportunities

this school year. There are always challenges ahead of us as

we continue to seek out His path for our lives. Saint Katharine

Drexel Catholic School is a great place to be, and we continue

to work together to make it even better. I hope you find time to

relax, rest, and spend quality time with your family this sum-

mer. I look forward to the 2015-2016 school year with great

anticipation and hope for another outstanding year of Catholic

education.

Dear Parishioners,

Sometimes there are periods of time

when it seems you hear one awful story after

another: accidents, marriage difficulties, fi-

nancial problems, loss of a job, etc… How a

person handles adversity makes all the differ-

ence in the world. . .

A parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The

mule fell into the farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule

'braying' - or - whatever mules do when they fall into wells.

After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympa-

thized with the old mule, but decided that he did not have the

resources to save him. So, he called his neighbors together and

enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well

and put him out of his misery.

Initially, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and

his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back...a

thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time

a shovel load of dirt landed on his back ... he should shake it off

and step up! This he did, blow after blow.

"Shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up...shake it

off and step up!" he repeated to encourage himself. No matter

how painful the blows, or distressing the situation seemed the

old mule fought "panic" and just kept right on shaking it off

and stepping up!

It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted,

stepped triumphantly over the wall of the well. The dirt that

seemed would bury him, actually blessed him ... all because of

the manner in which he handled his adversity.

When you are going through difficult times - trust in God -

pray - "shake it off" and step up to the challenge. Let us keep

each other in prayer.

God Bless,

Malvern Retreat July 24-26 For over 100 years, the Malvern Retreat House has been

providing opportunities for men, women and families to en-

gage in a deep personal encounter with Jesus Christ. Join the

men of St. Bede the Venerable parish the weekend of July 24th,

25th & 26th for their Malvern retreat. To learn more, call Jim

McMonagle at 215 968 5489 or email jimmcmon-

[email protected]. For information on retreats for men, women,

married couples and families visit our website at malvernre-

treat.com or call 610-644-0400.

Today the gospel tells us that the Kingdom of God

is like a mustard seed…so small when planted and yet

able to grow into a great tree. Can you “plant a mus-

tard seed” today…why not pick up a CD/book/booklet

from our Resource display to give to someone you

know who needs to encounter the Lord or needs encouragement. Your

gift may be just the “seed” needed. Thank you for your generous

donations that help to support the mission of Stewardship: A Mission

of Faith and Lighthouse Catholic Media to “feed hungry hearts”.

Go to Mass With Pope Francis! Saint Bede Parish will be

supplying four buses for Pope

Francis’ Mass on the Benjamin

Franklin Parkway on Sunday,

Sept. 27. This Mass will also

mark the end of the World

Meeting of Families.

Buses will leave and return

from the church grounds. The

cost per seat is in the process of being determined. Keep

checking the parish bulletin for more details!

Monthly Theme:

A Home for the Wounded Heart Many people, especially today, face

painful situations resulting from poverty,

disability, illness and addictions, unem-

ployment, and the loneliness of advanced

age. But divorce and same-sex attraction

impact the life of the family in different but powerful ways.

Christian families and network so families should be sources of

mercy, safety, friendship and support for those struggling with

these issues.

Learn more about the World Meeting of Families on our

website (st-bede.org) and the parish Facebook page!

Food Gift Cards Needed I have been getting requests for food and gas gift cards

over summer months for those in need. Cards can be purchased in

the parish office and left in the Parish Nurse Mailbox. Due to the

shortage in our food pantries there has been more requests. The

food collected on Sunday goes to Jesus Focus food pantry where

people are being directed. Thank you for your generosity.

TWO GREAT Happenings - ALL in ONE NIGHT Come out and celebrate FertilityCare the way

it was meant to be! Join us on Thursday June 18

at the Olde St. Andrew Church Meeting Room in

Newtown for a viewing of the film NaPro: A

Quiet Revolution and meet Dr. Monique Ruberu

- Philadelphia's Newest NaProTechnology

trained obstetrician & gynecologist. Dr. Monique

will share her conversion story and her passion

for life! There will be a Q&A session following

the film. This will provide an excellent opportunity to ask ques-

tions from the FertilityCare Professionals of Greater Philadel-

phia who will be in attendance. NaPro: A Quiet Revolution is a

short documentary that explains how there is a viable alterna-

tive to birth control to treat women's health problems and a far

superior treatment for infertility than in-vitro fertilization

[IVF]. The film looks at a new women's health science of Natu-

ral Procreative Technology. Bring a friend and come out for

this TWO GREAT Happenings - ALL in ONE NIGHT. To

register, go online to fertilitycarefriends.org.
