What is sagging?

Wearing pants or shorts that are too big

Fashion trend that reveals underwear

Trend is mostly seen on men, but some women also sag

What is the origin?

Widely known that sagging originated in the prison system

MYTH: sagging was a sexual sign sent to other prisoners

FACT: sagging was a result of prisoners not being allowed to have belts

Setbacks to sagging:

A person’s walk

Being prejudged by strangers

Missing potential job opportunities

Possible trouble with the law

Problems with the Law

Sagging pants have been against the law in Delcambre, Louisiana

Mansfield, Louisiana charges saggers with a $150 fine or 15 days in jail

Sagging is very popular due to celebrities and the media

Hip-hop artists began wearing oversized clothing in the 1990s
