Accreditation Process
- Track Application- 48 Detailed Pages
- Input from regulators, State Veterinarians- TRPB Assessment- Compliance Program
- Track Site Inspection- At least 1 ½ Days
- Visit and make sure what track says in application is taking place in practice
Accreditation Process- Tracks Visited
- Churchill Downs- Keeneland- Delaware Park- Pimlico- Belmont Park- Hollywood Park- Calder
Accreditation Process- Churchill Downs
- Difficult Inspection because track was not open for live racing, so many of the procedures that are key to the process (e.g. pre-race inspection) were difficult or impossible to see in person. As a result, we needed to have written protocols signed off by state veterinarian.
- Churchill corporate commitment to safety is apparent
- Exceeded standards in many ways: Padded Starting Gate, Post Race exam protocols, Second Kimzey Ambulance
Accreditation Process- Keeneland
- Not afraid to spend money in areas concerning safety
- Polytrack- Exceeded standards in many ways: Twice
daily track maintenance measurement; Padded Starting Gate; Use of InCompass Hand-held module for pre-race inspections, allowing sharing of data among regulatory veterinarians in other jurisdictions; Jockey Medical Records
Accreditation Process- Delaware Park
- Exceeded standards in many ways: Pre-race inspection protocols and data gathering; Post-race observation; Use of New Riding Crop; Safety Committee
- Current Issues with Toe Grabs in Delaware
Accreditation Process- Pimlico – Received Provisional Accreditation
- Mainly, procedures are not written- Maryland not conducting Post-Mortem exams- MJC not using new crops- MJC does not do much training/Continuing

- Still has outstanding items to be addressed – part of the problem is the lack of a true racing commission
Take-Aways- Process is working
- Three out of Seven tracks created relationships with aftercare facilities as a result of this process
- Delaware Lasix- Maryland Medication
- Aftercare is a big issue with tracks- Many believe it is not their problem, which
we found out when drafting the Code of Standards
- Security Assessment well received- Tracks are learning how to improve
backstretch security
Take-Aways- Near Future
- Input at Inspections from more stakeholders
- Fans
- Longer-Term- Items to be addressed by Alliance Advisory
Committee for possible future addition to Code of Standards
