Since 2003, I have served as a hear-ing officer in contested administrative hearings. What are the three most important issues that you hope to address if elected? The three most important issues facing our county are (1) managing the docket growth in the courts as the county grows; (2) the need to maximize court time; and (3) the need to create innovative programs to deal with the unique needs of certain populations, including mentally ill offenders and youthful offenders. The drug court established by another court has proven to be a successful measure in reducing the rates of incarceration and recidi-vism for those types of offenses. I would support similar measures for other types of misdemeanor offenders, including offenders who have a diagnosed mental illness. TERRYE EVANS Candidate District Clerk Terrye has observed first-hand our towns turn into cities, as well as the transformation of our cities into a major extension of the Metroplex. Collin County’s high growth rate poses major challenges for its office-holders in terms of office-practices, policies and budgeting. The burgeoning growth rate is taxing on the legal system as well as our citizens.

Terrye believes we need to maintain a citizen’s perspective while we make the hard budgetary and policy decisions within the department. Terrye’s sign in her office reads: “Welcome, we’re glad to see you!” Terrye will run the District Clerk’s office with this same mantra.

Terrye believes that one never stops learning in life and as soon as one stops wanting to learn it can often lead to loss of interest and then failure altogether. Terrye is committed to remain-ing vigilant and will commit her office to new technologies that will aid in everyday office prac-tices. Basically working smarter so as to deliver the best work-product possible to Collin County’s citizens, lawyers, judges and other county departments.

Terrye believes that we as taxpayers cannot afford to take the attitude that things are "good enough". The District Clerk's office should be in a continual state of improvement, working smarter to make customer and citizen interactions positive and helpful, rather than perplexing and puzzling. The District Clerk staff should respect taxpayer time, and be sensitive to the needs of all stakeholders, attorneys, judges, and other departments. Terrye believes the Dis-trict Clerk’s office is there to accommodate and serve the public, not the other way around. Terrye knows that the existing employees in the District Clerk’s office are armed with the knowledge and readiness to serve! What they need is a leader to make the necessary changes that this county desperately needs: Funds to aid programs involving the Indigent; internal changes to better interface with the District Attorney’s office and other departments; eradicate delays in filing with full use of office hours through a clerk hot-line to aid attorneys. BA in English, County Employee for almost 10 years Managerial Experience at EDS and Susquehanna Radio Corp Member of St. James Methodist Church in McKinney

What qualifications or experience do you have that distinguishes your candidacy? I have the reputation for being fair, open-minded, and follows the law. I am trained, right now, with no break-in time necessary. What are the three most important issues that you hope to address if elected? 1. Preventing repeat offenders from causing harm to our community: I have the experi-

ence to know use the programs and conditions available for maximum effect. 2. Absorbing increased case filings with fewer tax dollars: I know the system and can

make changes necessary for increasing population during budget reductions. 3. Helping the new judges: Courts 3, 4, and 6 will have brand new judges. My experi-

ence can help them as they come on board. I have 26 years experience as a paralegal and office manager. My work ethic, education, problems solving skills, and experience qualify me to lead the District Clerk's Office. I have extensive knowledge of how the judicial system functions from beginning to end. I am the only candidate who has been on both sides of the counter. This gives me a unique perspective of how the public views the District Clerk's office and how it can be improved. What are the three most important issues that you hope to address if elected? 1. I plan to expand office and service hours. The clerk's office currently closes at 4:30

p.m.. They quit processing passport applications at 4:00 p.m. They quit issuing court documents at 3:30. I want to expand the hours to 5:00 p.m.
