ADVANTAGES OF INLAND CONTAINER DEPOT :-

KSH Distriparks’ ICD at Talegaon, Pune operationalised KSH Distriparks’ Inland Container Depot (ICD) Talegaon, Pune is fully functional with Indian Customs deployment headed by Dy. Commissioner of Customs. Many service providers and their exporter / importer clients have already customs cleared, shipped Full Container Load (FCL) and Less-than-Container-Load (LCL) consignments out of ICD Talegaon successfully. All requisite government permissions / notifications for export-import clearances are in place.•Government of India Customs Location Code for ICD Talegaon, Pune is IN TLG6 •Jawahar Customs has accepted Import Continuity Bond for transshipment (SMTP) of import containers from Nhava-Sheva to ICD Talegaon (Letter no.S/3-Gen-3991/2008 of 18.11.08)The Commissioner of Customs, Pune The first LCL consignment, of Gudel India, was Customs cleared by Sharp Logistics, the CHA, with New Globe as the forwarder. The first FCL consignment handled at the ICD was a 40-footer of Yang Ming Line for Merloni Termosanitari, Chakan, and cleared by CHA Aashita International.Other manufacturers like Thermax, Suvarna Fibrotech, Technoedge, Filtek India, Custom House Agents (CHAs) like Vansa Clearing, container lines including IAL Container Line and forwarders like Allcargo were the foremost to use the FCL/LCL services that were rolled out.

Conclusion:-The industrial visit at ICD, Talegaon, Pune was indeed a beneficial one. The industrial exposure to Inland Container Depot which is a dry port in Pune was a immense practical knowledge to us, because it includes seeing the various sections of the company like warehouse, shipping line empty container yard etc. We were also told that how the various sections of ICD actually works , that gave us the practical knowledge of dry port management.

The main feature of ICD is it’s location at Talegaon . The ICD is on the ring road bypassing Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Octroi limits, is well connected to the Talegaon – Chakan – Ranjangaon - Pimpri Chinchwad – Bhosari – Hinjewadi - Pirangut industrial clusters. It is just off the Mumbai - Pune-Bangalore NH4 ; directly thereon connected to Mumbai-Pune e-way, en-route gateway ports of Nhava Sheva and Mumbai; Sahar Air Cargo Complex. New indusries in this hotbed of auto and engineering manufacturing sector alongwith all traditional companies of Pune and upcountry Maharashtra can hugely benefit from this cost-process efficient ICD. It is geo-strategically suited for logistics consolidation - deconsolidation of export / import cargo; bonded storage; customs clearance and container handling / storage also.

PROFILE OF THE UNIVERSAL CONSTRUCTION AND EQUIPMENT LTD. PUNE:-

Everyone has a dream but only few have the passion to transform the dream into a vision which has the power to touch the depth of reality,

Mr. Rohidas Moray, fondly referred as Dadasaheb, streamed ahead in the lane of Construction Equipment manufacturing with his Visions. He started a company with intellectual potential over three decades ago in the year 1974. This company was called UNIVERSAL.

UNIVERSAL started with a humble beginning by providing its own produce like oil lubrication pumps and gear boxes to major  industrial giants.

UNIVERSAL has achieved great heights with its expertise and detailed execution in the past years. It has been blessed by exponential opportunities to test its metal in the course of time. In the mid-80s, UNIVERSAL was given a chance to display its expertise by working on a project for DRDO (Defense Research & Development Organization).

UNIVERSAL put in all its efforts to come up with a Nitric acid pump to be used in the country’s combat weapon - the Prithvi missile. The topping on the cake was when Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam - Ex President of India personally tested the pump at Hyderabad and approved of its use in missiles - as an import substitute.

Page 15: sachin new project

HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSAL CONSTRUCTION:-

In the year 1982, Dadasaheb stumbled across an opportunity which was a turning point in the UNIVERSAL history. A friend of Dadasaheb requested him to develop a Concrete block-making machine. The manufacturing success of this equipment catapulted Dadasaheb into the Construction Equipment manufacturing frame.

With a workforce of 30 to 40 workers UNIVERSAL started the manufacturing of its small Concrete Mixers at its Warje workshop, which was set up in the year 1991. In the same year UNIVERSAL achieved yet another striking goal by exporting its first ever produce to Sri Lanka. The Warje workshop was bursting with energy and production of Construction Equipment was on high spirits.

UNIVERSAL supplies 50% of its produce to illustrious companies. UNIVERSAL never missed to participate in events which gave them opportunities to showcase their talents & competencies. UNIVERSAL participated in an exhibition - Constro'91 which resulted in great success.

Mr. Ranjeet Moray, the elder son of Dadasaheb joined the UNIVERSAL band wagon in the year 1994, and introduced the First Five year plan. Like father, he too set ambitious goals to benefit Company upraise, such as:

1. Expansion of Sales & Service network

2. Broadening of base of Construction Equipment

3. Standard of Construction Equipment

Mr. Abhijeet Moray, the younger son, joined Dadasaheb with his professional training in Management and Cost Accounts in 1997. He also brought along with him his ability to be a cheerful management leader, which later helped him to deftly handle labour and logistics. High and lows are a part and parcel of life. 1997 witnessed a recession in Real Estate market. UNIVERSAL took this downfall into its stride and transformed it into a success story. The focus was effectively changed towards manufacturing special equipment for construction of dams, irrigation projects. The designs were delivered with personal involvement on-site.

The year 2001 - 2005 is considered to be the Golden Era in the history of UNIVERSAL. This was the Second Five year plan of UNIVERSAL.

HISTORY OF THE COMPANY:-

Page 32: sachin new project

WHEN, on May 26 1989, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JN Port) was commissioned amid much fanfare and expectations that it would soon emerge as India's most high-tech port and a major container hub port in this part of the world, doubts were expressed in certain quarters on whether the port could actually live up to the bloated expectations of its planners. But 20 years down the line, the successive managements of the port could quell the doubts, despite facing an initial period of setbacks and teething troubles, marked by a slower-than-expected growth rate. Indeed, today the port is firmly poised to emerge as a major regional container hub port, having already carved a distinct niche among the international ports, with more than 30 international shipping lines operating from the port.

In fact, the need for a modern container port in India was felt as far back as in the 1970s when the first container ship of American President Lines called at the then Bombay Port.

Indian port planners subsequently zeroed in on Nhava Sheva for setting up a port that would be totally different in concept, technology, operation and administration - it was even felt that a new legislation for the port was necessary so that it could sprout on the strength of its own roots and not be manacled by ponderous procedures that were in existence then.

It is a different matter that the legislation did not materialise, but in the years that followed, the port could overcome the initial problems and emerge as a model port in India.

Shortage of equipment and concomitant delay in turnaround of ships (vessels were then confined to the port for two to three days) had resulted in tardy growth in container traffic to the port for the first few years. Starting with a throughput of 33,880 TEUs in the first year (1989-90), the traffic could nudge one lakh TEUs only in the year 1991-92.

However, the port went in for a brisk expansion between 1995 and 1997, acquiring three RMQCs (rail mounted quay cranes), six RTGCs and two RMGCs in phases.

MISSION OF THE COMPANY:-

TRAFFIC PROJECTIONS OF JNPT DURING THE 10 th PLAN PERIOD:-

What is significant about the port's container operations is that over 80 per cent of the containerised cargo handled at the port heads directly to the destination, with only 20 per cent being transhipped.

In ports like Mumbai, Kandla, Cochin, Tuticorin and Chennai, more than 80 per cent of the box cargoes are transhipped at various transhipment ports as Colombo, Dubai, Salala and Singapore.

According to Mumbai based garment exporter, JNPT has been attracting exporters and importers, as they can send their cargoes through the port directly to destinations as Europe, America and Africa, without touching any foreign transhipment ports, which helps them make significant savings and reduce transit time Mumbai-based garment exporter pointed out.

Page 63: sachin new project

Co-operative Movement Establishing Sugar Factories in Maharashtra.

The formal roots of Co-operative have taken place in India in 1889 by way of establishment of Union Co-operative Bank Gujrath Taking into consideration period of formal co-operation, their systemization, the first Act on Co-operative was enacted in 1904, which allows to formulate mostly village level credit societies. The Act of 1912 facilitated formation of Federal Co-operatives. Systematic compilation of co-operative was enacted in 1925 and most of the Co-operatives in Maharashtra which are celebrating more than their Golden jubilee have registered under this Act.

Economical extension experienced in late 20s which concluded to have its effect in late 30s also and out and out-break of 2nd world War, this all resulted into association of consumers, farmers, etc., into formal Co-operatives. Then the Govermant of India, taking into consideration wide gap between demand for sugar and its supply, thought it fit to permit establishment of sugar factories and thus sugar factories in Maharashtra were established around 1930s and they all were in private sector. Establishment of sugar factories gave respite to farmers by way of lifting their product sugarcane and resulted in human treatment . This to framer treatment to the farmers was unbearable to personal like late. Dr. Padmashri Vikhe Patil, Dr. Dhanajayrao Gadgil and others. Padmashri Vikhe Patil though not highly educated person in academic sense, had very sincere feeling and touch of the pulse of the farmers and he decided to organize farmers into formation of Co-operative Sugar Factory. His efforts were met with many hurdless even at the Goverment level.

Undeterred by the hurdles he continued to educate and organize the farmers in formation of Co-operative Sugar Factory and ultimately his effort were succeeded in registering first and pioneering Co-operative Sugar Factory on 31.12.1948 and this factory commissioned in late 50s rolling first bag of sugar.Registeration and commissioning of the first and pioneer Co-operative Sugar Factory In Maharashtra and in India gained momentum boost uo on account of remunerative prices to jaggary (Gur) which the farmers were otherwise manufacturing and secondly on account of rehabilitation measures undertaken by this first and innovative program of co-operative sugar factory. Establishment and suceessful working of first co-operative sugar factory had its desired effect on the minds of policy makes. This resulted into priority being given to co-operatives in sugar industry by National Planning Board itself and, therefore, number of sugar factories which was only one in 1950-51 crossed limit of 100 in 1992-93 and by the end of 1997-98 more than 176 sugar factories have been refistered in the State of Maharashtra.

Project Cost: Organization and registration of Co-operative Sugar Factory in the State of Maharashtra brought in prosperity in the rural area and also helped lot in generating

Page 64: sachin new project

employment in rural areas. Establishment of sugar factory of 2500 MT per day capacity, as Govt. if India’s new economically feasible policy, the plant requires about Rs.45/- to Rs.50 crores as its project cost. Over a period cost is increased and therefore, contribution towards the project cost has also been changed. The institutional Finance from the Institutions like IFCI, ICICI etc. long term financing institutions has 60% of the total project cost. Of the remaining 40% previously 7.5% came from members whereas 32.5% from the Government contribution. This proportion has been changed to 10% and 30% respectively. There are few farmers who pay 100% of their share amount to the factory. More than 90% of farmers availed the benefits of medium Central Financial Agency for the purpose of crediting their share amount to the sugar factory. For this purpose a farmer is required to contribute only 10% of the total amount and 90% is from Central Financial Institutions. Thus, actual contribution of a farmer to the share capital in the beginning is only 10% of the total project cost. The institutional finance of 60% is directory linked with Government guaranty, whereas Govt. contributes 30% thus, share of 90% of the project cost is borne directly by the state Govt. there also have been occasions where in Govt. was required to give guarantee to the Central Financing Institution, so that they are able to finance to farmers for various purposes including developmental loan. Taking in to this Government share which is never less than 90% goes even to 90% occasionally as out of 10% contribution of member if paid 10% of amount is made available by District Central Co-op. banks as a loan to purchase of share (i.e., farmers contribution is 1% only.)

Bhimashankar Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., DattatrayaNagar, (BSSKL) I is one of very well known mill in the State of Maharashtra. The original mill of 2500 TCD capacity was established in the year 2000-01 and located at Pargaon and the bank of perennial Ghod river & which is 80 k.m away from district Head Quarter of Pune, in Maharashtra. Process of Manufacturing of sugar at BHIMASHANKAR SSK LTD.:-

Page 65: sachin new project

Cane is weighed on the platform weighbridge and is dumped into cane carrier, It is prepared by leveler and cutter and it is passed through mills for extraction of the juice weighted quantity of hot water is used on last mill bagasse to extract maximum quantity of juice. Mill’s juice from mills is pumped to the boiling house.

The mixed juice is weighed on automatic Maxwell Boulouge type weighing scales. First heating of the juice is done in raw juice heaters up to 65C to 70C. The juice is then taken into continuous Sulphitation tank where it is mixed with proportionate quantity of milk of lie and Suphur dioxide gas. The reaction is controlled by maintaining proper pH. After Sulphitation juice is again heated up to 100C to 102C in Sulphur juice heaters and is transferred to Dorr Classifier for settling. After retention of 2 ½ hours clear juice is taken from the top and mud is taken from the bottom.

This mud mixed with fine bagacillo and is filtered through oliver vacuum filter. The filtrate juice is again taken in weighed raw juice and filter cake is taken out and used as manure.

Clear juice obtained from classifiers is further concentrated into evaporators and is converted into syrup and seed boiled in the vacuum pan is called as a massecuite. The massecuite after completion of boiling in vacuum pan is dropped in the crystallizer.

The massecuite is taken into centrifugal machines for separation of sugar Molasses. The sugar separated in the Centrifugal Machine is dropped in hopper. It is dried there by passing hot and cold air and is graded on graders and bagged, weighed and after third boiling the molasses sent out is stored in steel tank as final molasses, which is being used in distillery for alcohol manufacture.

The bagasse coming from mills is used in boiler as a fuel for production of steam and excess quantity of bagasse is used for paper making industry. The generated steam is used for driving the turbines and heating and boiling the juice and syrup.

Page 66: sachin new project

Merites of Sugar Co-operatives:

Factories are paying more than minimum statutory price, fixed by Government of India which is good remunerative.

It generates the local employment opportunities to the rural unemployed.

This is the only stable processing unit settled in rural area compare to other processing unit other than sugar cane.

If gives an opportunity for social, economical, political and development of co-operative spirit in rural area.

The stable and economically good viable unit has undertaken the by-product processing units like paper plant, distilleries, Co-generation plant, which helps to give additional cane price to the cane growers.

Recently many more sugar factories coming up for establishing co-generation units to produce power required by them and if in execs to sale to Govt. as a support in increasing the power position of state & country.

The many more sugar factories has started the educational facilities, medical facilities to educate rural youth as well as to take health care of rural mass at large, which has created good avenue in rural areas which is the good contribution of sugar co-operatives.

This industry has also supported the development program, which help produce flood of milk production in the state.

Sugarcane Area, Production, Crushing & Sugar Productions:-

It is expected that in the 2000 the population of our country would cross 100 crores, the requirement of sugar per person in 20 Kgs. Of sugar per year and, therefore, the requirement in the year 2000 would the 200 lakhs Mt of sugar. State of Maharashtra contributes 40% of the total requirement of the country it was expected the Maharashtra should contribute 80 lakh M.T. of sugar in the year 2000.

The country’s today requirement of sugar is 140 lakhs M.T. aunally. The maximum production in the history was recorded 165 lakhs. M.T. in the year 1995-96 in India and about 54.0 lakhs M.T. in state o Maharashtra, which were further decline due to various problems and natural, collimates. The year 198-99 was again good year for sugar cane & sugar production is expected to be more than 55 lakhs. M.T. in Maharashtra.

The crushing capacity of sugar factories in the state of Maharashtra was 2.00 lakhs M.T. in 1991-92 were increased to 2.42 lakhs M.T in year 1995-96 which is further increased to 3.00 lakhs M.T per-day due to increase in number of units in the state. The total number of the units 276 with a crushing capacity 4.20 lakhs M.T. per day will definitely cope up the requirement of sugar production and target for the state by 2005 A.D.
