WELCOME TO HOLY INFANT PARISH

Welcome to all who have come to pray with us today! Whether you’re just having a look, or are searching for a place to worship, we’re happy to have you here. We trust that our worship will be joyful and encouraging to all and hope that you find a warm, welcoming community here at Holy Infant Catholic Church. Please call us at the parish office, (636) 227-7440, if we can be of help to you. If you would like to register for the parish, visit holyinfantballwin.org or call the parish office.

Living God’s Word “For it is better to suffer for doing

good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil.” 1 Peter 3:17 The old line says, “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” Many of us are diligent in our planning, mak-ing sure things are progressing smoothly, then disaster strikes, we don’t get the result that was intended. An un-foreseen problem arises. Many times we may respond negatively. Why me? I did everything right! Here’s the thing-God has a different and better plan in store for you.

MASS INTENTIONS

The Li le Sisters of the Poor, who have been welcoming aged poor persons and sharing their lives with them within our Archdio-cese for over 140 years, will be visi ng our parish Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th to speak of their mission within the Church, and to ask our help. Their Home, in North St. Louis, currently serves 115 needy elderly persons, age 65 or older, who are loved and cared for un l death, so that they live in security and dignity.

The heart of their mission is simply to provide a “Home”, so that those elderly, with whom the sisters joyfully share their lives, realize how much God loves them and wants them to be with Him forever in heaven. Throughout their history, the Li le Sisters have depended on the collabora on of the laity to enable them to support their Resi-dents and live their voca on. The Sisters will have envelopes in the pews and will briefly speak at Mass to ask your support. Please make checks payable to the Li le Sisters of the Poor.

Last summer, the Sisters announced that they will be leaving the Archdiocese a er 148 years. They have no inten on of doing so un l they find the “right” people to con nue their mission to the poor. For that reason, there is no date set for their departure. In the mean-

me, Archbishop Carlson understands that they must con nue to beg in order to keep the “Home fires burning” so that the work con nues.

Dear Parishioners, Thanks to everyone who took the me to fill out your Annual Catholic Appeal pledge card a er Mass last week-end. If you have not yet done so, we have mailed your card to you. Please take a minute to fill out your pledge card and return it in the return envelope or simply place it in our collec on basket. Even if you are not able to par cipate this year, we ask that you please sign your card. No gi is too small or too large. I try to inch up my own pledge each year in my own personal commitment. Recently, on a Saturday a ernoon, at our 4 o’clock Mass, we commissioned Stephen ministers who are available to the people of our parish. Our Stephen ministers serve as spiritual companions to individuals and families who are recovering from loss or crisis in their lives. These are not counselors or social workers, but men and women who have been trained to assist those who are trying to make sense of their lives a er having suffered a death, a crisis, a miscarriage, a divorce, a loss of a job or a home. A Ste-phen minister might share their journey for a few days or weeks or even months. Their purpose is not be intrusive in any way; but to offer solace, companionship and sup-port to those who are feeling a bit lost in their journey of life and faith. We are blessed to have a dedicated team of 24 trained Stephen ministers here at Holy Infant. If you would like to talk to one of the members of our team, please con-tact me at the rectory (636-227-7440) and I would be happy to make the connec on for you. On another note, congratula ons to the Holy Infant School graduates of 2017, as well as those who graduat-ed from our Parish School of Religion program. Many years of hard work and dedica on have gone into this achievement, not just by our students, but by parents and teachers as well. We thank all our parishioners who, by their prayers and financial support, have made the educa on of our young people a high priority! Finally, our Closing Mass for the last day of the school year will be on Friday, May 26th at 8:00 a.m. If you have ever a ended one of our end-of-the-school year litur-gies, you know what a grand and memorable celebra on it is! All are most welcome and encouraged to a end this special all-school liturgy as we thank our loving God for our many blessings here at Holy Infant! God’s blessings to you and your family!

Archbishop Robert Carlson is chairman of the annual Glennon Sunday appeal, suppor ng the pa ents and families at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. SSM Health Cardinal Glennon is the only free-

standing Catholic pediatric hospital in the country, serving more 200,000 sick and injured children each year, re-gardless of their family’s ability to pay. In the early 1950’s, generous Catholics in our community raised more than $6.2 million to build the hospital – marking the beginning of Glennon Sunday. Once again, we call on the Catholic community to partner with us as we con nue in this health care ministry by making a dona on to help the sick children and families in this community. Your gi s will be collected at Mass for Glennon Sunday weekend, June 3-4, "Where Faith and Healing Unite”. On behalf of the many children and fami-lies who will benefit from your gi s, thank you for your con nued prayers for Cardinal Glennon kids. You can also make your gi online at glennon.org

Sister Raffaella Cavallin, a consecrated lay-person with the Apostles of the Interior Life, shares her inspiring spiritual journey. At the height of her professional soccer career, while attending a parish mission, she discovered that the ultimate goal in life is to be-come a saint. Sister Raffaella’s story illustrates how holiness and happiness go hand in hand, and that through prayer, the Sacraments, and spiritual direction, we can live a Christ centered life and become the person God wants us to be.

Fr. Mike Schmitz shares important insights on the meaning of Christ’s Cross. He shows how God’s rescue mission for us includes the need for each person to embrace his own cross in order to reestablish trust in the Father and the understanding that love requires sacrifice. It also includes a bonus segment on Stations of the Cross, which features re-flections on the Lord’s Passion and Death, accompanied by moving audio dramatiza-tions from the Truth and Life Audio Bible.

Discussing moral issues with family and friends can be a challenge in a culture that strong-ly promotes the idea that there is no objective truth. Speaking from a wealth of personal experience, renowned author and theologian Dr. Edward Sri provides 5 “keys” to enable Christians to oppose with logic and love what Pope Benedict XVI called the “dictatorship of relativism.” He also clarifies the proper understanding of what it means to judge, and the importance of making good judgments.
