excitement right up to the rev counters red line. Its the result of Mazdas long

history of rotary engine development. As the worlds only mass-manufacturer of

rotary engines, Mazda has innovated a host of performance-enhancingtechnologies which reach full fruition with RENESIS, making it the heart of Mazda

RX-8s uniquely soul-stirring drive. An experience like none youve ever had before.

Innovative engineering for enhanced performanceIt starts with the side exhaust port system. Locating the exhaust ports in the

engines side housing along with the intake ports eliminates intake/exhaust port

timing overlap. And this combines with other refinements such as enlarged intake

and exhaust port area to give you both higher power and improved fuel efficiency.

Powerful, linear response for ultimate driving pleasureEnjoy instant, powerful response under any driving circumstances thanks to a

torque curve that is extremely flat across the engines entire speed range. The

secret is the Sequential Dynamic Air Intake System (S-DAIS) that continuously

optimizes charging efficiency according to engine speed. Together with the

lightweight rotors and flywheel, electronic throttle and a host of other engineering

advances, this lets RENESIS bring you the sports performance you want along

with the instant response only a naturally-aspirated engine can deliver.

And to assure the lubrication performance hardcore sports driving demands, the

previous metering oil pump is replaced by an electromagnetic type pump to

improve oil feed precision and lubrication of the gas seals. In addition, oil panvolume is increased and the pans internal structure is optimized to minimize the

drop in oil pressure during fast cornering.

low, behind the front axle in an advanced front midship configuration. Placing all the

weight between the wheels results in superior cornering with extremely sensitive,

linear response to driver inputs. In addition, the open-section Power Plant Frame

(PPF) locks the entire powertrain, from the engine to the differential, into a single,

ultra-rigid unit that sharpens acceleration response.

Positive, fast-shifting transmissionsYou enjoy a choice of 5- or 6-speed manual or 6-speed Activematic transmissions* to

suit your driving style. For those who want to fully enjoy direct control of the RENESIS

engine, the new 6-speed manual transmission features upgraded synchronizers with

carbon triple cone synchronizers for 1st to 4th gears and larger synchronizers for 3rd

and 4th gears, resulting in a lighter, more positive and more enjoyable shift feel. And

for those who like the convenience of automatic, theres electronically-controlled

6-speed Activematic transmission featuring a newly-developed Direct Mode. This

allows you to shift down using the steering wheel-mounted switches when driving in

the D range, and instantaneously selects the right gear to match the driving

conditions. Typical scenarios include using the engine to brake when entering a corner

or running downhill, or changing down to accelerate when overtaking. Normal D

range automatic transmission resumes as soon as the particular driving scenario has

body rigidity. At the front, a trapezoid bar links the suspension strut towers with the

dash cowl panel*, while the towers themselves are made of thicker sheet steel. The

result is a dramatic increase in torsional rigidity which further enhances Mazda RX-8s

configuration at the rear, with dampers, bushes and stabilizers tuned to deliver a

to ride stability. The corner sections of the front bumper and the rear combination
