STAFF CHANGES

Rutherford Public School continues to grow! This term we have

formed a new Year 2/3 class, to ensure class numbers are kept to

the recommended levels. Miss Genevieve Cotton has moved into

the new demountable accommodation over the break, behind the

Kindergarten rooms.

The Department of Education has worked with the school to ensure

the new room is ready for the term, fully air-conditioned and in ‘as

new’ condition. Miss Cotton has been at the school all this year in a

support teacher role, and is well positioned to ensure the learning for

students moving into the class will be consistent and of a high

standard.

Mrs Beesley (Teacher Librarian) remains on leave this term. Mrs

DeVries has accepted a permanent position at Edgeworth Public

School from this term. Mrs Alison Reid returns from leave this term

and will move into the librarian position for the remainder of the year.

Mrs Jodie Morton replaces Miss Cotton as a Learning Support

Teacher.

Mrs Candice Morphett has been offered the Assistant Principal’s

position (due to Mrs Ferguson’s retirement) to start in 2017.

Congratulations Mrs Morphett! Mrs Morphett is currently a teacher

at Raymond Terrace Public School.

A BUSY TERM AHEAD

Term 4 is always busy as we lead into the Christmas and end-of-

year period. It is important that parents keep aware of the planned

activities to ensure that events are not missed. The school is

constantly looking at ways we can improve communication and

planning – if you have an idea of how we can communicate better,

we would love to hear about your suggestions.

PLANNING FOR 2017

Planning for 2017 is well underway! If you know of any families who

are in our zoning area and are still yet to enrol their Kindergarten

child, then please let them know that they should have already

informed the school of their intention to enrol.

Unfortunately we are unable to accept any out-of-zone enrolments

for 2017 in any grade.

UNIFORM Please ensure your child is in FULL school uniform. Checks will be made throughout this term to ensure our standard of uniform remains high. Any families who are having trouble meeting the uniform expectations should contact the office as soon as possible. Lowes has informed the school that they are having a sale this

Thursday 13th October.

YEAR 2 SWIM SCHOOL

A lovely hot day is forecast for the beginning of the Year 2 swimming school. I am sure everyone will enjoy the two weeks of lessons. It is great to know that students will be able to make such a lot of progress by

attending each and every day.

Year 2 children and S1 children will eat lunch early, beginning at

11:00am. The bus will collect us for the pool at 11:20am.

Lessons run for 45mins at the pool, then the bus will collect us from

Maitland pool at 1:00pm.

Please ensure your child has all necessary items packed and with them each day of swimming; 2 towels, swimmers, rash shirt or t-shirt (children will not be allowed in the pool without a shirt over their

swimmers), sunscreen, change of underwear.

Children must wear school uniform to school. Please send the swimming gear in a clearly labelled plastic bag or shopping bag. All items must be clearly labelled with your child's name. During the two

weeks, children will be unable to order their lunch from the canteen.

They will still be able to order afternoon tea as normal.

Enrolling for Kindergarten

Mrs Slaven and our Kindergarten team are working very hard to have everything ready for our new kindergarten students to begin next term. Many of our new students have been attending the Ready for

Rutherford transition program that is held each Thursday.

We will have two Kindergarten Orientation sessions on 17th and 24th November for all students. Ready for Rutherford children will be joined by children who have not been able to attend the Ready for

Rutherford program.

Please help us to make sure all new students have enrolled to begin next year. There may be new families in your street who would

appreciate the information.

Enrolment forms are available at the office.

...From the Senior School... Tim Beaven - Deputy Principal Head of Senior School

YEAR 7 2018 SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL

...Year 6 Transition News… Sue Swetnam, Transition Support WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4

Another busy term for our Year 6 students, as they finalise their

transition to high school. They are approaching the end of their

seven years of primary schooling and are now ready to embark on

yet another journey, one that will lead them through secondary school

and into adolescence.

This term there are a number of dates where staff from RTHS will

visit Rutherford to talk to students. There are also a number of visits

that students will make to RTHS to ease the concern and worry

around moving to the high school environment.
