We have After School program at the corps every day

except Saturday and Sunday. Children come right after

school where they meet for a nice meal. After lunch they

do home work and then they have different kinds of

programs such as sport

and learning programs.

Usually 15 children

come, but during

holidays the number

grows to between 20

to 25. Volunteers work

with kids and help in

leading some meetings.

The Corps is a second home for children where they love

to spend time and usually when it comes time to go

home, they leave unwillingly. Most of them are from

large or socially vulnerable families. Parents come and

thank us for the care their children receive at the corps.

After School program is a great help and hope for them.

Through the project many people (children’s neighbours)

know about the Salvation Army as a good church.

There were occasions when parents couldn’t attend

parent meeting at the school and we went and

participated in the school councils on their behalf. Once

when a child became sick at class and teacher called us

asking for help with the request of that child. Thus the

project is a great blessing for children as well as for their

parents.

Permanent teachers who will directly carry out full

responsibility for kids remains a challenge. We also need

cleaner. We have budgeted for these employees in the

new project and looking forward for its approval.

At Ponichala children are helped with home work,

prepared good lunch and engaged in different programs:

crafts, sport events, theatre activities. We also had

special celebrations with children such as New Year,

Christmas and etc. It is significant to say that kids, with

great pleasure, were involved in different church

meetings.

“Back to School”

program helped 15

children. First of all

we went to school

director who

provided us with a

list of socially

vulnerable

children. Those we

helped were really thankful and pleased. We were saying

we help in the name of God and He himself wants to take

care of them. They felt respect towards us as we

expressed such an approach of showing God’s love. The

things we bought were delivered to 9 children of that

school who doesn’t have parents.

The rest 6 children were

brought to the corps by

our church members

and we provided them

help as well. This

support was very

essential and brought

tears and gratitude from

people. Certainly, we

made focus upon God

and they agreed with us. Glory to God and thanks to

everyone participated in the project.

Six year old Nika and 4

year old Roba had been

coming to the corps since

summer 2009. We don’t

know why but they were

afraid of other children

and adults. They used to

hide under the table and

bite corps children. So we

understood, they lacked love and care and we tried to do

everything to touch their hearts. Step by step you see

them changing and we do believe they will enjoy a happy

childhood.

We pay great

attention to the

academic progress

of these children

and I think we

managed that with

a good success.

The best example

will be 9 years Ali Aliev. Just a year ago he couldn’t write

and barely read school text books. He was near to be left

with the program of the last year. But now, his results are

above average level. He is very excited to come to the

corps to do his home works.

One of the girls, Nikol didn’t attend school for one and a

half year. As we found out, she didn’t finish her 6 grade

at school and as a result she wasn’t evaluated.

Unfortunately, parents didn’t consider education to be

important for her. With our involvement we were able to

influence the situation. We talked to the director and she

was given possibility to pass exams of the six year

program in order to start her studies as a 7 grade

schoolgirl. She passed them successfully and will come

back to school in January 2010.

But the great

excitement for us

is the fact that

Nikol received

Jesus Christ as her

Saviour and in

December 20 she

became our corps

soldier. We can

bring many

familiar stories which show how this project helped

children to improve their school results. Besides, our

corps is a place where they get to know Jesus as their

personal Saviour and Lord. Every day their little hearts fill

with Christ’s love. For the last nine months since project’s

beginning 11 children became junior soldiers, one senior

soldier and recruit classes still keep going on.

Children especially like Bible lessons. With great interest

they love to listen to bible stories about God’s miracles

and share them to each other. Lagodekhi after School

Project is a successful and important project which was

able to influence many lives.

First of all, on behalf of our After School program, we

wish you Christmas and a Happy New Year!

As you already know, children from poor and large

families come to the After School program. We decided

one of ordinary days to make unusual for these children.

We have learned that none of them had never been to

McDonald's and

one of those

beautiful days,

along with

nineteen children,

we went to

McDonald's.

Children with

curiosity looked at

colorful building, beautiful tables and chairs. They

showed each other cartoon characters painted on the

walls. Some of them did not like the food, but they were

delighted with everything that happened in this

restaurant. And the following week parents came and

thanked us for the joy that we brought to their children.

We want to thank you for the fact that during this year,

you sponsored Children's Center, and thus brought much

joy and happiness to these kids.

Didi Digomi corps officers.

To sponsor of Luka Shiukashvili

I am a mother of two children – Luka 10 years and

Mariam 7 years. They are good in school and go to the

music. Your sponsorship is very helpful to us. With your

money, we buy many useful items ourselves we could

not afford: shoes, clothing, school items, books and

medicines.

Very soon our corps plans to have Christmas holiday,

gifts, games, Santa Claus. For eight years I attend the

Salvation Army and I thank God I met true church and

good people. Here we learn of God's love and doing good

deeds for the glory of the Lord. God bless and

strengthen you! We do not know each other, but I thank

God for your life in this world and your help for us. My

dear man, thank you very much for everything. On behalf

of my family, with all my heart I want to congratulate you

with Christmas and Happy New Year! May God continue

to grant you with desire of doing good deeds. We love

you in Christ and pray for you!

With love,

Luka’s mother

Irma Shiukashvili

Two girls come to the Children’s Centre – Gayane and

Eka. They live close to the corps and we know this family

very well. By unknown reasons their mother was

deprived of her parental rights. So children live with

father and an aunt. Aunt is a street cleaner and father

doesn’t work since he is drunkard. Girls are glad to come

to the corps and have fellowship with friends. They have

a possibility to develop their skills. With pleasure they

love to take participation in different skits, read poems

and sing. We are happy since God gave us privilege to

make life of these girls beautiful.

Not far from Rustavi, nearby our district, lives one boy

Vladik. He lives with mother and a brother. He is in the

second grade. In 2007 he had eye surgery (a piece of

glass got in an eye). As a result a sight of one eye is weak

and hinders him when reading books and completing

home works. There’s only mother with two children and

disabled uncle. Nobody works in the family. The situation

is very difficult since their uncle’s pension is only

sufficient for food.

Almost from the very beginning Vladik started to attend

the corps. He loves to eat much. Thank God we have this

opportunity

to feed

children with

hot and tasty

dinner. At

home his

mom doesn’t

always cook

dinner,

because their

budget is very

limited. Vlad isn’t an easy boy, rather spoilt, and difficult

to communicate with. But we try to show him love and to

teach discipline and hard work. Thank God for this

opportunity, because the support we provide for Vlad

and his family - is very important.

Vika – 11 years Vika was brought to Children’s Centre by her mother. We

accepted the girl

into our

programme . She

wasn’t well

groomed, badly

dressed though it

was winter Vika still

wore summer

shoes. We found

winter boots for

her, tried to watch so she didn’t come in slovenly clothes,

helped her with home work. Vika’s mother has

apartment in the same street where our corps is located,

but on Saturday and Sunday the girl used to miss

children’s programs since she had to go with her mother

outside the city. Then finally her mom took decision to

move from Tbilisi to live in cottage where there are no

schools or any kind of other educational institutions.

Later we found out that Vika’s mother is alcohol addicted

together with her “husband” and girl had to get up at 5

o’clock every

morning in order

to catch 7 o’clock

train to get to the

city. At 8 o’clock

in the morning

she arrived to

Tbilisi and school

started at 9 a.m.

It continued

every day no

matter what weather was. Vika told us that very often

she was offended by her drunken parents. Time from

time she failed to attend After School Program but we

always tried to bring her back to the corps, showing our

love and care. Today she continues to attend Children’s

Center, she is very active participating in skits, dances

and choir lessons. A few weeks ago Vika has been

enrolled as junior soldier of Samgori corps.

Ella was born with spinal hernia and needed urgent

operation. Doctor who supposed to make surgery

promised that in a year girl will be able to walk. However

neither in a year later, nor in two years the girl didn’t

begin to walk independently. Then parents addressed

specialists and checkup showed that during operation

the surgeon cut off all nervous terminations therefore

Ella became paralysed below her belt. Today Ella to a

wheal chair bound. She attends school and studies very

well. Diapers and medical treatment in sanatorium

“Axtala” in Georgia are necessary for the girl. It’s a

special place for invalid children. Treatment should

proceed in a period of 1 month in a year, throughout

three years. According to the calculations medical

treatment expenses may cost $3 000. Ella receives

assistance through the special needs sponsorship.

We help three children two of them are invalids – Dato

and Giorgi. Dato has mental disorder and other illnesses.

It is very difficult to control him so mother decided to

send him to the mental hospital. His mother is

unemployed, alcohol addicted and their living conditions

are very bad. The oldest son has been recently released

from prison and doesn’t live with them. In fact, he is

living on the street.

Dato lives in a

basement with his

mother. Shortly

saying, they are in

great need. With

sponsorship money

we bought medicines

for Dato, food and gas

container so they

could cook food. We thank sponsor for his care about

children.

Giorgi is invalid as well. We buy food and diapers. His

mother takes good care of him, father has a job. The

medical treatment which Giorgi receives doesn’t really

help him. Mother can’t wait for a moment when a child

says “mom” to her. They get medicines from Moscow,

one package costs 70 Lari which is enough only for two

weeks.

A third child whom we help is Vova who is raised by his

aunt; nobody has any information about his mother. His

father lived in Russia but died recently. Vova’s relatives

want to take him to Russia, but there are some problems

with documents and difficult things with Russian

government. There Vova has another aunt who can take

care of him. So we don’t know when it becomes possible

for Vova to leave for Russia. We

We thank you very much that

with the greatest sympathy

you took that information

about pregnant woman, left

by her husband. She was in

despair as she couldn’t pay

child-birth. Perhaps you still

remember that on July 2 lady

was urgently placed to the

hospital. Doctors thought she would have premature

birth, but she hadn’t. At the hospital she was suggested

to sell her baby-child (which is crime!) because they new

she couldn’t pay childbirth. In short, unpleasant things

were happening around this situation which is difficult to

share. But thanks to God we have good people who in

deed, bring hope and meaning in the midst of evil and

despair.

On the 28th

of July at 9:30 a.m. a little boy was born

named Luka Mamedov. Mother and child both feel well.

We’ve met with stuff of that hospital because they

treated mother very badly thinking she wouldn’t all

necessary fees. So we explained them who we are and

that we are helping woman and then doctors started to

treat her kindly.

On behalf of

mother we thank

sponsor for his

help. If not that

support, we don’t

know how it would

end all. We send

you pictures taken

at the hospital.

It will be very helpful if it is possible to make sponsorship

for a child.

With Christ’s love,

Captains Nebieridze.

Thank you letter from Mamedova Marina

Dear sponsor,

Thank you very much for the help you rendered for my

son Mamedov Vova.

May the Lord bless you!

Your support is of great significance for my family. We

can buy food on your money which is very important for

us. In deed, God has sent you and I am grateful for your

opportunity to help needy families. There is not enough

words to express my gratitude to you. May the Lord our

God bless you!
