Run, Fight or Die! FAQ
Basic Game Play Questions:
How does the timing of cards and abilities and dice resolution come into
play?
The player decides the order of the actions to be resolved, both for dice icons and for skills and follower skills and penalties, however in relation to followers they must resolve each follower completely prior to moving to another.
Keep in mind that players cannot interrupt the resolution of an event rolled, Zombies advancing or a card drawn to perform an action like healing with the Medical Supplies, so if the character has only 1 Health Point remaining and rolls an Ambush they would not be able to stop play and heal. They could have healed prior to rolling the dice though.
Does a player have to use a bonus like the Nurse Event, or a Follower bonus:
For the Event die, good Events are optional. The player does not have to Heal or Back up 2 Zombies in Zone 1 to Zone 2 if they choose not to do so. As for followers, they cannot control the people with them, so if a Bonus can be performed (meaning the players board or their dice rolled has the opportunity to perform it), they must perform the action. For example; the Gun Nut will always be active if Gun icons are rolled and the Angry Waitress will always kill a zombie in Zone 1.
Can you draw a Location by playing a Buildings Ahead event or by drawing an
Event that instructs you to draw a Location if you already have a Location in
play?
No, you may only advance to one Location each turn so if you have drawn a Location and are instructed to draw another Location (or have the Building Ahead card) you may not draw a new Location. The Buildings Ahead card may only be used when you do not have a Location in play.
Does the Re-Roll of zombies using the Amulet Event, a Character Skill or the
Lucky Charm count as one of the players Re-Rolls?
No, these are immediate re-rolls and do not count as one of the players re-rolls.
Can I use items, like the Molotov Cocktail as soon as it is drawn?
Yes, items may be used immediately when they are gained. That is one reason that players may choose to resolve an action die that may give them Loot early in the resolution of their action dice.
The Outdoorsman character skill states he heals a wound when at an
outdoors location and lists High Ground, Dark Woods, Town Line, Back Road,
Old Bridge, etc, what locations make up the etc?
At present the locations on the card are the only Outdoor locations that enables the character to heal. New locations may be added to the game in the future.
Can Zombie icons be re-rolled with the Lucky Charm Loot card?
Yes, any dice can be re-rolled including Zombie icons when playing the Lucky Charm. This re-roll does not count as one of the players re-rolls and can even be made after
they have used all their allotted re-rolls.
If you roll multiple Search or Book icons can you split them up and use them
to do multiple things rather than the total number of icons rolls?
No, unless the character has a skill or item that enables them to use the Book or Search icon independent from the Guide, they must use the total of these items.
When you gain a Follower that requires upkeep like spending a Run or Gun
icon on to keep, do you have to pay that Dice icon on the turn you gain them?
No, the upkeep penalty (as well as any other bonus or penalty) is not in effect until your next turn. Followers are not immediately active when gained as Loot is. Followers must be with the character at the start of the players turn to be active. How does the Second Wind Event card work?
The player completes their turn, advances and adds new Zombies and then they take another full turn. Does the Mutant Zombie Boss move around the table attacking all players?
Yes. The Mutant Zombie Boss is moved to each player as they take their turn. The active player can attack the Mutant Boss with Gun icons, Molotov Cocktail, and Book of the Dead Loot and will be attacked by the Mutant Zombie Boss at the end of their turn after advancing Zombies on their board by drawing a Mutant Boss card and resolving it. Then move the Mutant Zombie Boss to the next player.
Solitaire Game Play Questions:
Does the Heroic Dog stay with you after using his ability since there are no
other players?
No, all cards that would move in the base game to another player are discarded in the solitaire game. You may only use the Heroic Dogs special ability one time and then must discard him.
Can the Building Ahead Event card be used in the solitaire game?
Not as listed. This card may be used to draw 1 Location card if you are not at a
location at the end of your turn.
Die Harder Game Play Questions:
Do Runners always advance 2 Spaces, even during the resolution of a Charge
or a card that advances zombies 1 Zone?
No, Runners only advance 2 Zones in the End Turn Zombie Advance Phase. When advanced as a zombie to fulfill the requirements of a Charge Event or a card, Runners advance 1 Zone like every other zombie.
When instructed to add a Zombie to Zone 3 and the Zombie card drawn
states a Crawler is to be added to Zone 1, is the Crawler added to Zone 3 or
Zone 1.
The Crawler is added to Zone 1. Zombie Horde instructions overrule placement in
Zone 2 and 3 for Zombies. This represents the difficulty of spotting Crawlers on the
ground as you run through the darkness.
Can the Brute (that requires 2 damage to kill) be killed by using multiple
Attack dice or must he be killed by a bat or buffed gun that does 2 damage?
The Brute can be killed by using multiple actions to do 2 damage (like using 2 Gun icons in Zone 2) to him.
Cooperative Game Play Questions:
In the cooperative game, will Followers that move to other players still move
or are they discarded?
Followers move to the appropriate player as in the base game. This can become strategic for the players, and very beneficial if they gain the Heroic Dog.
Other:
Gamer Geek Replacement Card: The first run game box comes with an extra Gamer Geek Townsfolk card in the box. The card that identifies the Bonus of gaining the Black Die is shuffled into the Follower deck and the card that references the Red die is in error and should be discarded.
Out of Zombies Optional Rule: When there are no Zombies available in the pool
and a player must add Zombies to their board, they take them from the Zone 3 of other
players. If all players must add one or more Zombies and there are no Zombies in the
pool, each players suffers a wound for each Zombie that cannot be placed. If some
Zombies remain, the active player places their Zombies first, then the next to the left of
the active player until all are taken, and the remaining players suffer wounds.
