OverviewARCNET Local Area Network was

introduced in early 1970s. It has been

popular for a longtime before Ethernet's

release. Currently ARCNET is still used in

many fields, such as point of sales,

industrial controls, game machines, and

etc.. Based on Datapoint ARCNET

technology, ARCNET allows up to 255

nodes per network to be connected at the

transfer rate of 2.5 Mbps. It is collision free

because it adopts token passing as media

access method and is good for real-time

applications. ARCNET supports two kinds

of media: RG-62A/U coaxial cable and

telephone twisted-pair cable. ARCNET's

technology is star and maximum distance

between Hub and node/Hub is 2000ft and

400ft for coaxial and twisted-pair cable

respectively. AN-808S is 8-port coaxial

active Hub and AN-808T is 8 port twist-pair

Hub. Both has power and per port Activity

LEDs for easy troubleshooting of the

network. Each port of Hub can be linked

either to workstation or Hub of next layer.

Any port of Hub can be used for uplinking.

AN-520BT is a high-perfor-mance ISA

ARCNET card. The board is equipped with

two 6 position modular jacks and one BNC

connector. User may select either coaxial

or twisted-pair cable by jumper setting. The

node address can be set by DIP switch

located at mounting bracket. Activity LED

is provided for diagnostic aid.
