Our first product is a simple timber coaster. These follow an Australian theme, using only Australian hardwood timbers, like red gum and Tasmanian oak. Like all products we supply, all timber is sourced from recycled and reclaimed wood. The colour timbers are selected to be reminiscent of the Australian bushland and dessert terrain, using reds and light browns/yellows to imitate various aspects of Australian land in an abstract manner. The design shapes are meant to imitate Australian wildlife and landscape. This product is an ideal tourist/travel gift, as it symbolizes Australia in a more classy and elegant way than the regular tacky designs that you may be familiar with. Being made specifically from the Australian bush, and being of simple design, these coasters fit into any environment.

Our second product is an Australian themed lantern. Like the coasters, the frame will be made entirely from recycled or reclaimed Australian hardwoods. The glass or illuminated surface is to be made out of an opaque acrylic plastic. These lanterns are more decorative than functional, as they are intended to cast a silhouette on the inside surface of the lantern. These silhouettes would be once again Australian, depicting images of classic Australian scenes. Like the Sydney Harbour Bridge or Uluru. The example mockup on the left shows some natural wildlife and flora. The lights inside would be simple battery tea light candles so that they are replaceable and require minimal power. Ideally this product would be marketed as a decorative product, however, the design has a specific ‘nightlight’ aspect to it, so its potential to market to children/parents is great.

Our company is ‘Bush Artifacts’, and we focus on using reclaimed and recycled timbers to make iconically Australian themed products. Our mood board focuses on the idea of the Australian bushland, which is where we got the idea to use a kangaroo paw in our logo. The kangaroo paw is an obvious Australian plant. The bushland colours are clear through the timber used in the products, and everything is made in house. For the market stall, we planned on creating something a little different, combining aspects of both of our products to merge our designs. This is why the mood board contains aspects of both of our designs: i.e.. the silhouette for the Aus. Lanterns, and the checkered timber patterns from the Aus. Coasters. Our market stall will ideally have a hexagonal/pentagonal structure to increase its strength and durability and to do something a little different.
