Technology in Ofsted
The use ICLT and adaptive technology is particularly effective in reducing barriers to the curriculum.
A third of all learners are working towards accreditation in functional skills English, maths and/or information and communications technology (ICT).
To make ILPs fully accessible to learners they are kept on personal electronic storage devices and this helps to develop learners’ information and communication technology (ICT) skills.
In their last inspection the college was judged to have an innovative approach to technology to promote and capture achievement; for example, each learner was helped to build up a web-based record of their progress over time.

To make the plans fully accessible to learners they are kept on personal electronic storage devices and this helps to develop learners’ information and communication technology (ICT) skills.

Scenario 1 – need to refer to reference books in library but rushing to catch bus. Go to library, using a mobile phone to take images of the pages I need and e-mailing them off to [email protected] with txt in the subject line and the image attached. Close books and rush for bus. On bus, browse to email and start reading the text from the library book on the way home. Scenario 2 – visually impaired student needs magnification. Library, photograph pages, email to [email protected] with PDF as subject line, download at home and view at preferred magnification in Acrobat reader- Scenario 3 – dyslexic learner - as above but send image to [email protected] – go for a coffee, check emails and listen to content whilst sipping Fair Trade latte.
