Tahir was detained in Srinagar Central Jail for almost one year after his arrest from his residence during summer uprising last year. He was first lodged at Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu and later shifted to Central Jail Srinagar for his first semester exams on court orders. Tahir was also sacked from his job in the State Education Services where he worked as a laboratory bearer. His family said Tahir reached home Tuesday evening. PTI New Delhi, Oct 18: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed various issues, including the recent spurt in violent incidents in Kashmir, an official said. During the 30-minute meeting, the chief minister briefed the home minister about the prevailing situ- ation in Jammu and Kash- mir and the steps taken to maintain peace in the state. Singh assured Mehboo- ba of all central assistance to her government in main- taining peace in the state, a home ministry official said. The spurt of violence in Jammu and Kashmir include attacks on security personnel, killing of a PDP worker and the subsequent attack on his house and throat slitting of a teacher. Journalism student released on intervention of Education Minister

Srinagar, Oct 18: Tahir Hussain Mir, a student of journalism at the Media Education Research Centre (MERC), University of Kashmir, has been released after a prolonged detention under Public Safety Act (PSA).

Tahir was detained in Srinagar Central Jail for almost one year after his arrest from his residence during summer uprising last year.

He was first lodged at Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu and later shifted to Central Jail Srinagar for his first semester exams on court orders.

Tahir was also sacked from his job in the State Education Services where he worked as a laboratory bearer.

His family said Tahir reached home Tuesday evening.
