WHEN THE CANNONS SOUND FOR PEACE Every evening it rings hundred times, in memory of the
dead from all wars. It is the Bell for the Fallen, the lar-
gest bell in the world, which is made from the melted
bronze of the cannons which wreaked havoc and death
on the battlefronts of the Great War.

MARTOverlooking a square that is covered by a glass dome, the
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MART) was con-
ceived by Mario Botta. The futurist collection of Fortunato
Depero represents the founding nucleus of this large muse-
um, which exhibits more than 10,000 works and is enriched
by important temporary exhibitions of contemporary art or art
from the last century.
ITALIAN WAR HISTORY MUSEUMIt is one of the most complete in Italy in terms of documents,
artefacts and exhibitions on the First World War. The striking
environments inside the Castle house the collections of wea-
pons and artefacts.
CIVIC MUSEUM It exhibits interesting collections of natural science, archaeo-
logy, astronomy, figurative arts and technology. It also mana-
ges the Astronomical Observatory on Monte Zugna, the
Roman Villa of Isera and the guided tours to the dinosaur foot-
prints in Lavini di Marco.

det sich an einem von einer Kristallkuppel überdeckten Platz
und wurde von Mario Botta entworfen. Die futuristische Sam-
mlung von Fortunato Depero stellt den Kern dar, von dem aus
das große Museum ins Leben gerufen wurde. Es verfügt über
eine Sammlung von mehr als 10.000 Arbeiten und wird mit
wichtigen Ausstellungen von zeitgenössischer Kunst des let-
zten Jahrhunderts und der Gegenwart vervollständigt.
MART
HISTORISCHES KRIEGSMUSEUMEs handelt sich um eines der vollständigsten Museen in ganz
Italien und besitzt eine umfassende Sammlung von Doku-
menten, Zeugnissen und Ausstellungen zum ersten
Weltkrieg. Die eindrucksvollen Räume der Burg beherbergen
Waffensammlungen und Fundstücke.
Im Museum werden interessante Sammlungen zu Naturwis-
senschaften, Archäologie, Astronomie, darstellende Kunst
und Technologie ausgestellt. Es leitet zudem die Sternwarte
auf dem Monte Zugna, die Villa Romana von Isera und die
Führungen zu den Dinosaurierabdrücken in den Lavini di Mar-
co.
STADTMUSEUMJeden Abend schlägt sie 100 Mal im Andenken an die
Kriegsgefallenen. Es handelt sich um die Gefallenen-
gedenkglocke, die größte Glocke der Welt, geschmie-
det aus der eingeschmolzenen Bronze der Kanonen,
die an den Fronten des Weltkriegs für Tod und Zerstö-
rung sorgten.

RUINS AND MANORS THAT MIRACULOUSLY STOOD
THE TEST OF TIME
Anywhere in Vallagarina crenellated walls and bastions of a for-
tress recount stories of battles and legends or love and magic. On
the edges of Vallagarina, the imposing castles of Avio and Beseno
dominate the valley, whilst in the centre of the valley floor, there is
the castle of Rovereto. Furthermore: Castel Corno, Castel Prada-
glia, Castle of Castellano, Castel Noarna, Castel Pietra and Castel
Barco… guard secrets and are wrapped in mystery.

The medieval times live on in S.Pietro in Bosco in Ala or in the ancient towns of
Avio and Lizzana. There are Gothic Romanesque traces in S.Antonio di Savigna-
no and S.Ilario. Precious frescoes decorate the walls of S. Rocco in Volano and
S. Maria in Brancolino. Architectures from the sixth and seventh centuries
embellish the archpriestal church of Villa Lagarina, and Montalbano above Mori.
Not to miss is the hermitage of S. Colombano, on a sheer drop over the Leno.

DIE ZEIT ÜBERSTANDEN HABEN
DIE BURGEN
Überall im Vallagarina erzählen die zinngekrönten Mauern und
die Bastionen einiger Burgen von Schlachten, Liebesgeschichten
oder Magie. Am äußeren Ende des Tals befinden sich die ein-
drucksvollen Burgen von Avio und Beseno, im Zentrum die Burg
von Rovereto. Zudem: Castel Corno, Castel Pradaglia, die Burg

Anywhere in Vallagarina crenellated walls and bastions of a for-
tress recount stories of battles and legends or love and magic. On

The medieval times live on in S.Pietro in Bosco in Ala or in the ancient towns of
Avio and Lizzana. There are Gothic Romanesque traces in S.Antonio di Savigna-
no and S.Ilario. Precious frescoes decorate the walls of S. Rocco in Volano and
S. Maria in Brancolino. Architectures from the sixth and seventh centuries
embellish the archpriestal church of Villa Lagarina, and Montalbano above Mori.
Not to miss is the hermitage of S. Colombano, on a sheer drop over the Leno.

admired in the botanic garden of Palazzo Baisi in Brentonico. Other

ciality of the Avio countryside. In Val di Gresta high quality vege-
tables are farmed using natural methods. The alpine huts of
monte Baldo produce sought after cheeses. In the woods of
Castione the tasty chestnuts mature and these can be enjoyed
with the Novello wine.

Occidente explores the connections and stimulates
the comparison between the languages of art and
science, identity and globalisation. The W.A. Mozart
Festival, and the Settimana Mozartiana (Mozart

International Exhibition of Archaeological Cinema

The historic and cultural heritage of the towns and villages is
enhanced by events and demonstrations. The 18th century Ala
blossoms during Città di Velluto (City of Velvet). A Borgo e il suo
Fiume (A Town and its River) is reminiscent of the relationship
between the town of Borgo Sacco and the river Adige.
In September, the streets and squares of Avio smell like wort,
and the spectacular barrel competition of “Uva e Dintorni” cele-
brates the harvest. Christmas of the Peoples, with the traditional
market, is a feast of solidarity for all those who share the same,
holy message of Christmas.

tember riechen die Straßen und Plätze von Avio nach Traubenmost
und der spektakuläre Lauf der Fässer der Veranstaltung “Uva e din-
torni” feiert die Weinernte. “ Il Natale dei Popoli” (Weihnachten der
Völker) mit seinem charakteristischen Weihnachtsmarkt ist ein bede-

Bringing the best of international dance, Oriente
Occidente explores the connections and stimulates
the comparison between the languages of art and
science, identity and globalisation. The W.A. Mozart
Festival, and the Settimana Mozartiana (Mozart
Week), are linked instead to the musical tradition
left by Mozart during his travels in Trentino. The
International Exhibition of Archaeological Cinema
brings to Rovereto the most recent cinema produc-
tions that are linked to archaeological discoveries.

bindungen und stimuliert die Konfrontation zwi-

Mozart und die Mozartwoche sind hingegen mit der
Musiktradition verbunden, die Mozart auf seinen
Reisen in Trentino hinterlassen hat. Die Rassegna
Internazionale del Cinema Archeologico (Interna-
tionale Ausstellung des archäologischen Film-
kunst) bringt die neuesten Kinoproduktionen zu
den archäologischen Funden nach Rovereto.

The historic and cultural heritage of the towns and villages is
enhanced by events and demonstrations. The 18th century Ala
blossoms during Città di Velluto (City of Velvet). A Borgo e il suo
Fiume (A Town and its River) is reminiscent of the relationship
between the town of Borgo Sacco and the river Adige.
In September, the streets and squares of Avio smell like wort,
and the spectacular barrel competition of “Uva e Dintorni” cele-
brates the harvest. Christmas of the Peoples, with the traditional
market, is a feast of solidarity for all those who share the same,
holy message of Christmas.

Winter in Brentonico is not only about skiing, but it is
about sledging, skating and walking with snowshoes. An
experience that is not to be missed is a moonlit excursion
with snowshoes. For children entertainment is ensured
by the snow nursery, which is a space with entertainment
for children, themed parties and a lot of fun. A few minu-
tes from Brentonico, Rovereto and Vallagarina present
themselves as pleasant destinations for cultural, gastro-
nomic or shopping excursions.

slopes and a variety of tracks both for beginners
and expert skiers. Polsa and San Valentino are
perfect to experiment the carving. The snow-
board passionate can do stunts in Double Park, a
fenced area at their exclusively disposal. In San
Giacomo the cross country ski tracks are prepa-
red for the classic technique as well as for skating.
The ski school of the area is at disposal for those
who want to approach to the winter sports.
