Trinity announces plans to build athletic stadium

Trinity Academy has announced plans to build a $2.6 million stadium and track on its campus within the next year.

The stadium will be built east of the school and will seat 1600 spectators. It will feature an artificial turf field, synthetic track, and lighting. A facility will also be constructed to house a locker room and concession stand. Additional parking, an outdoor commons area and a walk of faith are other features that will be included in the project.

“Trinity currently plays its ‘home’ foot-ball games in Towanda, 20 miles away, and the track team practices on an asphalt road affectionately dubbed ‘the road of pain,’” said Steve Miller, athletic director. “It will

be a blessing to our students and community to have a facility where we can practice and play.”

Though the new facilities will provide important physical benefits to students and much-needed parking, Headmaster Matt Brewer is even more excited about how the project -- and sports programs in general -- benefit the character development of young people.

“Athletics provide a rich opportunity for godly coaches to influence students’ lives. The athletic field is where many young people learn to give God glory for their skills and talents. It’s where they learn the value of hard work, put aside selfishness, and play as a

team,” said Brewer. Trinity has hired Jared McDaniel as its

new head football coach. McDaniel spent three years as the head coach at Douglass High School and four years as the offensive line coach at Derby High School. McDaniel has ag-gressive playoff goals for the team, yet views the football program primarily as a ministry.

“Football provides a means of communi-cating with young adults, sharing experiences, and giving guidance along the way,” said McDaniel.

More than $1.1 million of the $2.6 million needed to fund the project has already been raised privately. The remaining funds will be raised through private donations.

“Trinity is a debt-free school. God was faithful to provide funds in 1999 when the school was built. He was faithful to provide again in 2007 for an auditorium and a second gym. We are confident he will provide for this project as well,” said Pete Ochs, chairman of the Trinity board of trustees.

ATG has been named as the contractor for the project. The anticipated date of completion is fall 2013.

“I think it’s going to be beautiful from a campus standpoint,” said McDaniel. “Anytime you have your own facility, that’s very excit-ing.”

Trinity’s project will be modeled after Lawrence High School’s stadium. The stadium will include 1000 home seats, 600 visitor seats, artificial turf, synthetic track, lighting, locker rooms, con-cession stand and restrooms.

Alumni News Landon Loftin (‘08) married Kate

Zeiset on June 23, 2012. Landon and Kate met while both in Guatemala, on separate trips, working at the same or-phanage. Landon graduated from South-west Baptist University with a degree in religion and philosophy in May and is now working at SBU as a resident di-rector. Kate works as a registered nurse in Springfield. Lizzi Mathews (‘11) was one of 20 freshmen college women in the country to qualify to attend the U.S. Nationals rowing training camp in Seattle in June.

Abraham White (‘09) graduated from Sterling College in May with a bachelor’s degree in elementary educa-tion. He was awarded the Teacher of Promise Award from Sterling College in November. On August 4, 2012, Abra-ham will marry high school sweetheart, Lindsay Rollins, at Wichita’s Botanica. Abe and Lindsay will be teaching in Dodge City this fall. Abe will teach fifth grade, and Lindsay will teach kindergarten.

Baylor University senior Taylor Kohn (‘09), a student on a pre-medical track, was selected as one of 282 U.S. undergraduates to receive the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. Taylor was selected from a field of more than 1,100 math, science and engineering students who were nominated by the faculties of colleges and universities nationwide. Taylor will use his scholarship to study

and research at Washington University in St. Louis.
