Club Bulletin
"This week we welcomed our District Governor Jerry Cas-burn and Briony to our club to speak and meet with us. Jerry and Briony are a fantastic team and set a great example for us all through their energy and enthusiasm for Rotary. Jerry filled us in on the year ahead, where the district is headed and how our club is
tracking as well as to introduce the next district con-ference in Ballarat. As a club we are doing well and we are an attractive option as a breakfast meeting to people in the workforce with little time to spare. Being right on Anzac Hwy, Briony suggest-ed a Bali/Tear banner to put outside during the meeting for passing motorists to see, which I think is a great idea so the board is looking in to purchas-ing one for the club.
Recently I attended the Stars of Minda awards night at Morphetville racecourse to present our annual Pride of Workmanship awards - this is the third year that I have attended but my first experience of standing on the stage presenting the awards. Our club was listed on all the invites this year and re-ceived plenty of coverage on the night which was good to see. Whilst there are now some other ma-jor sponsors involved, they had one or two awards each and had to sit through the presentation of 8 Pride of Workmanship Awards by the Rotary Club of Somerton Park. The nominees and award winners from Minda that attend the night always have a fan-
On 29th July we hosted Julie Black the CEO of the Ar-
thritis Foundation of SA. Julie demonstrated the effect
of arthritis with a coat and gloves, showed members a
number of models which indicated the effects of arthri-
tis and discussed the types, nature and origins of arthri-
tis . We learnt that 1 in 4 South Australians suffer in
some measure from arthritis and that walking is a real-
ly good exercise.
On 5th August President Brenley welcomed DG Jerry
and wife Briony to our meeting along with AG Sarah.
Linda advised there were still a few single places availa-
ble for the Yellow Brick Road, and Brenley informed the
meeting that our NYSF candidate had been successful.
DG Jerry introduced himself and Briony and assisted by
an attractive PowerPoint presentation took us through
his hopes and aims for the year. He explained the
theme, reminded us of the Strategic Plan, emphasized
the work of and need to support the Foundation, and
the District Conference which will be in Ballarat be-
tween April 16—19 next year. AG Sarah finished the
show with an appeal for sponsorship for those taking
part in the Cold Plunge.

tastic time and it is really enjoyable to see the smiles on their faces each year. The feedback that I get on how excited the employees are leading up to the event, the effort they put into dressing up and the general excitement all round on the night reminds me that this is indeed a worthwhile event and an great example of Rotary lighting up peoples lives."

Report on ‘Illuminate’
"Illuminate" held at Flinders University on Saturday, August 2, 2014 was an opportunity to hear 2 women, Ellissa Nolan and Kerry Kornhauser advising on the use of digital in promoting Rotary and the marketing of Rotary to Women.
Ellissa Nolan Marketing & Digital Manager, Rotary Down Under spoke on 'How to keep your community growing', Visibility in the community' ' Rotary Digital Networks' and what do great websites do?
Kerry Kornhauser Founder, Women in Rotary spoke on Women are Rotary's secret weapon to increased membership and How to make your club more female friendly, Key areas of membership diversity, gender equity and women leaders at both club and district levels.
Kerry is a past president of the Rotary Club of Albert Park, and is the power behind the Women in Rotary movement, and has seen female Rotary membership surge in District 9800 by almost 6% to more than 24% over the last three years.
There was a Facebook training workshop organized prior to the talks which was quite informative. They covered a lot of ground on how to build awareness of the Rotary Brand and the work of Rotary members. The emphasis was on collaborate and co-create.
Both the sessions were very well received by the audi-ence, though it seemed that the Facebook and Digital marketing was more popular.
Regarding role of women and gender diversity the feedback was ‘ District 9520’ is much better placed in terms of women members and involvement and over-all South Australia fared better than Victoria :) P1MM;0!! @&&(!
