ROMAN ART
BY: MAX HARRIS
ROMAN PAINTINGS
In Ancient Rome they painted mostly on wood.
Much of the art consisted of the human body.
The sculptures are mostly oh the human body as
well.
They painted people's portraits because they
believed that having a well done picture of a person
who had died kept them happy, so they would not
haunt you.
CONTINUED
The ancient Roman art we see today was greatly
included by all of the countries and regions they
invaded and took over.
The rulers of ancient Rome would also have people
paint huge murals covering whole walls or roofs of
their palaces.
QUESTIONS?
SCULPTURES AND ARCHITECTURE
Most sculptures were copied, like most of their
art, from the Greeks.
Most of them were of naked women or leaders of
the empire, soldiers and famous men in Rome.

ARCHITECTURE
They would build large buildings or bridges to emphasize
their power.
On buildings there was a lot of scrolls and patterns
decorating the walls and doors.
The Roman Colosseum is a perfect example of how good
Roman people were at building designs and adding lots of
details.
QUESTIONS?
MOSAIC OF MENORAH
This is a beautiful piece of art made by an unknown artist. A mosaic
is the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of
colored glass, stone, or other materials. It is a technique of decorative
art or interior decoration. The amount of color used is extremely
exquisite in that time period from 3rd century to 5th century A.D. When I
look at this art piece I can see the eye Horus. He was a mythological
god in ancient Egypt. That was later adopted by the romans to be
called Harpocrates. Menorah was probably used because of the arch of
Titus. In the arch of Titus this same type menorah is used.
RESEARCH
Found in Tyus
They think it was inspired by the emperor Titus.
After the arch of Titus was done.
This art work was found well after the roman
empire fell. Historian don’t know who made this
piece.
