Readers’ Logs•Read to your child or have your child read to you•Twenty (20) minutes per day, five days a week •Parent/adult must initial (one line daily)•Teachers check daily•Prizes at the end of the month•Celebration/prizes at the end of the year

ROCHESTER ELEMENTARY2015 FOURTH GRADE PSSA RESULTS

Of the 23 students in fourth grade who completed the Reader’s Log assignment when they were in kindergarten, 16 of them (70%) scored “Proficient” or better on the Language Arts portion of the PSSA in fourth grade.

Of the 20 students who did not complete the Reader’s Log in kindergarten, 15 of them (75%) did not score in the “Proficient” range.

∙ If your child rides a bus, he/she needs to know bus number and bus stop. If your child does not ride a bus, he/she needs to know who is picking him/her up.

∙ Homework Folders• Parents should check folders daily• Remove items from “Stay at home” side• Complete and return items from “Return to School” side• If you have a note for us, place it in the “Return to School” side• If you send in any money, please make sure it is in an envelope

with your child’s name, teacher’s name or room number, and what the money is to be used for. Teachers check folders daily.

What does my child need to bring to Kindergarten?

BreakfastAll of our students are eligible to receive a free breakfast and a free lunch. Breakfast will begin at 8:10 am and students must be in their classrooms no later than 8:45 am. If you would like your child to eat breakfast, please make sure to get your child to school early enough so that he/she can enjoy eating without being rushed.

Snacks∙ At the beginning of each month, a snack calendar will

be sent home.∙ Please provide a small, healthy snack for all of the

students in your child’s class.∙ If spoons, bowls, cups, etc. are needed for your child’s

snack, please provide them.∙ Be mindful of allergies (teacher will inform you of any).∙ Extra non-perishable snacks are greatly appreciated!∙ Our school has a “Fresh Fruit and Vegetable” Program.∙ Special treats for birthdays are always welcome!

Arrival/Dismissal

Arrival - Students can enter the building at 8:10 a.m. The students who are not eating breakfast will be dismissed to their homerooms at 8:20 a.m. and the late bell is at 8:45 a.m.

Dismissal times are as follows:Kindergarten Student Dismissal- 2:45 p.m.Elementary Walker Dismissal- 3:00 p.m.Bus Dismissal- 3:05 p.m.

Arrival/Dismissal (cont.)Current Arrival/Dismissal Procedure Walkers and parent drop-off will enter through the Main Entrance. Bussers will exit the bus at the drop-off zone by the tennis courts that is located in the back parking lot. At the end of the school day, walkers will exit through the door at the end of the drop-off zone nearest to the playground. Bussers will exit through the rear of the building to board busses.
