Eligibility, Description, & Registration (Table of Contents)

• ELIGIBLE: Teams from High school (HS) and Big KIDS Divisions

• ONLY 20 robots per category being accepted for 2013 (for a total of 80 robots in the entire Robotovate® Challenge)

• CHALLENGE: create a new, never-seen-before robot (remote controlled or autonomous) that fits one of the these four categories:- Helping Humans , - Biomimicry, - 3-D Motion , - Old Tech; New Use

• REGISTRATION: $100 / robot per category; Each category requires a separate robot with a team of 2 to 4 persons

Category - HELPING HUMANS (Table of Contents) (Eligibility)

• Any remote controlled or autonomous robotic design that expands human knowledge or capabilities, with civility and dignity

• Video examples as suggestions• Roomba• Treebot• Google car• Environmental research• Medical surgery

Category – BIOMIMICRY (Table of Contents) (Eligibility)

• Any remote controlled or autonomous robotic design that incorporates biological attributes in the operation of the robot, with civility and dignity

• Video examples as suggestions• Environmental research• Lizards• Insects• Spiders• Snakes• Jellyfish

Category – THREE DIMENSIONAL MOTION (Table of Contents) (Eligibility)

• Any remote controlled or autonomous robotic design that incorporates three dimensional motion in the operation of the robot, with civility and dignity

• Video examples as suggestions• Pipe inspecting• Flying • Jumping• Running• Swimming

Category – OLD TECHNOLOGY; NEW USE (Table of Contents) (Eligibility)

• Any remote controlled or autonomous robotic design that incorporates old technology (used in some other design) and incorporates it to perform a new use/product, with civility and dignity

• Video examples as suggestions• Lego RCX for Botball• Robot from junk• Junkyard robot• Scrap electronics in robot

• GOAL: Capture the audience’s attention to earn their vote with your amazing use of robots to demonstrate innovation…It is all about Robot + Innovation or as we like to call it…Robotovate®

• ROBOT VALUE: Under $3000 value (be prepared to validate if asked)

• ROBOT PLATFORM: Any platform is allowed

• BEST OVERALL ROBOT AWARD: Each category will have a GOLD, SILVER, and COPPER winner valued at $500, $400, and $300, respectively. One overall PLATNIUM, ($500), will be awarded for best integration of all four categories

Rules (Table of Contents) (Rules – Page 1)

• SPACE TO DEMONSTRATE: 8’ x 8’ table space provided; may be outside space but remain in category area for public to vote

• PRESENTATION TIME: May 3rd , 5:30p to 7:30p; May 4th , 8:30a to 2:00p

• SAFETY: NO combustible liquids, unprotected hazards (projectiles, blades, electrical, heat sources). Failure to protect MAY result in DISQUALIFICATION by event coordinators. BE RESPONSIBLE

• PRESENT TO WIN: Awards May 4th, 3:30p – 4:30p. Must be present to win

Scoring (Table of Contents)

VOTES: Everyone who attends will be given 4 category tokens plus one BEST OVERALL robot token

TOKEN BINS: Each competitor will have a bin to collect voting tokens. The three highest vote totals in each category will win. The one robot with the highest number of BEST OVERALL robot TOKENS will receive the GRAND PRIZE

BEST OVERALL ROBOT: integration of all four categories a forest fire searching, bird-like flying robot that uses older technology would demonstrate attributes of all four categories
