West Point.

• 1831Lee marries Mary Ann Custis.

• 1832-1846- Lee and Mary bore seven children.

United States Military

• 1852-Superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point.

• 1853-Confirmed into the Episcopal Church.

• 1859-Lee leads a command of United States Marines to capture John Brown and his cohorts at Harpers Ferry.

• 1860Ordered to San Antonio, Texas, to

take command of the Department of Texas.

• 1861Resigns his commission in the U.S.
