This is a two week long course. In the frst week youwill be improving your Spanish while taking classesat the prestigious University looking at a range oaspects related to the Camino.

In the second week o the course, you willexperience what it is to be a pilgrim - walking thefnal section o the so-called French Route o the StJames’ Way, accompanied by a proessor.

Objectives To extend students’ knowledge o the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, using a multidisciplinaryapproach which takes in the history, art, geography, literature, gastronomy and the present day o the Camino.To integrate study o Spanish language and culture by walking a stage o the route.

Contents Spanish Language (10 hours).The history, culture, art and gastronomy o the Camino de Santiago (30 hours):

The history o pilgrimages and the cult o St. James: The evolution o the Camino de Santiagopilgrimage route.The dierent Camino de Santiago routes and Jacobean art.Gastronomy and the Camino de Santiago.Geography and landscape along the route.Views o the route in literature.

Cultural Activities and walking seminarsGuided visit to Santiago Cathedral.Accompanied tour o the historic city centre.Guided visit to the University’s historic and artistic heritage.

Gastronomic Tour.Debate held in one o the city’s caés in the old centre.Visits to museums.Receptions at Santiago City Hall and University Chancellery.

FIRST WEEKAt the University o Santiago de Compostela rom the 20th June to 25th June (First edition) and rom the 3rd to the8th October (Second edition)

Spanish language classes taught by specialist teachers o Spanish as a Foreign Language.Seminars on the Camino de Santiago taught by USC expert proessors.Practical classes and walking seminars in the aternoon and Saturday morning.Complementary cultural activities in the aternoon.

In May-June Edition seminars about the Road and practical classes and walking seminars will beconducted in English.Free access to university services: libraries, computer rooms with Internet access and all sportsacilities.Accomodation in a double room in a guest house includes hal board (breakast and lunch). SECOND WEEK

On the Road: rom 26th June to 1st July (First edition) and rom 9th t to 14th October (Second edition) 

A university proessor expert in the area will accompany the group, providing them with explanatory talksabout the day’s walk.Three walking seminars about art and history o the Camino Francés (six hours).A bus will carry students’ luggage and provide support or participants who need to rest on a stage.Accommodation will be in the Pilgrims’ Hostels along the route. Breakast and Dinner will also be provided.A picnic lunch will be taken en route.

To participate in the June and October editions students will need an advanced(B2) level o Spanish. Language classes will start at this level; all other classesand seminars will be held in Spanish

No knowledge o Spanish is required to participate in the English edition o thecourse. Spanish language classes will be available rom beginner level; all otherclasses and seminars will be held in English.

The language classes seek to improve the students communicative skills andrevise and extend their linguistic knowledge (grammar, phonetics, etc) as wellas examining lexical, socio-cultural and strategic issues, all o which will ensurethat students get maximum beneft rom the course.

The aim is that beore students come to the practical part o the course - thewalking along the Camino  - participants will have the necessary languagetools, such as the specifc vocabulary they will require in order to approach thelandscapes, art, history or gastronomy they encounter, thus allowing them aglobal overview o the language and culture o the Camino de Santiago througha multidisciplinary approach.
