INTRODUCTION The Camino de Santiago is a route used by the pilgrims from around the world to reach the city of Santiago de Compostela, where the relics of St. James the Greater venerate.
THE ROUTE TO SANTIAGO INNER The Route to Santiago, It has been a fundamental axis xacobeo the gateway to the center of the peninsula from Irun in Roman times. Part from Irun, like that of the coast, and joins the French in Santo Domingo de la Calzada (La Rioja).
THE ROUTE TO SANTIAGO OF THE COAST As the Reconquista advanced south and the land recovered peace, Northern Route gradually gave prominence. For centuries it was barely used by pilgrims, however, the rise of walking to Santiago has recovered its status as a route and starts again become very popular. Walking distance is the second-longest, behind the Via de la Plata. The scenery and terrain make it a very special option, but on the other hand, the network of pilgrims accommodation is scarce, although there are shelters throughout the course and is well signposted.
