HEAD COACH DALE STARRDale Starr enters his third season as the head coach of the Robert Morris University volleyball team. InStarr’sfirstseasonwiththeColonials, hecontinuedtheproudtraditionofRMUvolleyball.Heled Robert Morris to its 12th-consecutive NEC Tournament, the longest active streak in the league, on the strength of a 13-3 mark in league play as the Colonials defeated every team in the confer-ence at least once. Starr then guided his squad to a victory over six-time defending NEC champion LongIslandintheconferencetournamentsemifinals,eliminatingtheBlackbirdsinathrilling,five-setmatch.Withthewin,RMUcompetedinits13thleaguechampionshipmatch,extendingitsown conference record. RMU’s 2010 successes were due, in part, to a dominant team blocking effort, an area which Starr completelyoverhauledinhisfirstseasonwiththeprogram.RobertMorrisaveraged2.66blocksperset,finishingamongthetopsevenpercentnationally,andwasonlyoutblockedbyitsoppo-nents twice all season. Starr brought a vast background in collegiate coaching to Robert Morris, having served as the head coach at McNeese State University for six years (2004-2010) and the head coach at Division II Mississippi University for Women (1999-2002). He also has experience working as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee at Martin (1998-1999; 2003-2004) and Boise State University (2002-2003). While at McNeese State, Starr recorded an overall record of 96-81 and a league record of 57-43 in the Southland Conference. In 2006, he guided his team to a Southland Conference East Division Championship.Duringhistenure,hecoachedfiveteamstoconferencetournaments,withthreeofthemmakingsemi-finalappearances.HecoachedeightAll-SLCplayers,sixAll-Louisianaplayers,the 2004 Louisiana Player of the Year, the 2009 Louisiana Freshman of the Year and the 2004 SLC NewcomeroftheYear.Healsocoachedtheprogram’sfirsteverAVCASportsImportsNationalPlayer of the Week in 2004. His teams also performed strongly on the academic spectrum with 19 players earning All-Southland Conference Academic honors. Additionally, his team was honored with a player on the AcademicAll-AmericanSecondTeamin2006,afirstfortheprogram. Prior to his appointment with McNeese State, Starr spent one season with the two-time defending Ohio Valley Conference Champions, the University of Tennessee at Martin, and a season as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for Boise State. Starr began his career at the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1998 and was the only assistant for a team that set school records for wins in a season (15) and conference wins in a season (8). Before beginning his collegiate debut, Starr worked as a head coach at Eagle Valley High School, Highland High School and Colorado Extreme Volleyball Club and also worked as a volunteer as-sistant for his alma mater, the University of Northern Colorado. Starr and his wife Michelle have two daughters, Kalee and Madison.
