1 The first 4 columns is what you completed in the field, it's called the field entries
This must be written in the field in pencil only the rest must be written in pen
2 Draw a line across the columns underneath the last FS as shown above
3 Add up the BS readings and the FS readings
and write the answer below the line do this in the field
4 Subtract the answers in no3 ΣBS -ΣFS and write the answers in next the row in the IS colum
5 Subtract BS-next reading (either FS or IS) for each setup and write the answers as the rise or fall
IF your answer is positive then it’s a Rise if you answer is negative then it’s a Fall
6 When you have intermediate readings you take first BS - IS then this IS - next IS
and so on until you have IS -FS
7 Add up the Rise and Fall columns write the answer below the line as shown
8 Subtract the answers in no 7 ΣRise - ΣFall and write the answer below the ΣFall
9 Write the final height for the first bench mark /point in the reduced height colum
10 Take the first reduced height and add for rise or subtract for fall
11 Use this new reduce height and repeat step 10 for next rise /fall
continue with this until you reach the last FS of your field book
12 Subtract the final reduced height of the last point from the given height of the last point
This is your misclosure that must be written as shown including the sign
13 Divide the misclosure by the number of setups to obtain the correction per setup.
14 Apply the correction as follows: for the 1st setup you use the correction per setup
until & including the first FS
For the 2nd setup you use the correction per setup times 2
for the 3rd setup you use the correction per setup times 3
You continue until the last setup
15 You need to apply the correction to all the IS in that specific setup as well
16 Now add the reduced height and the correction to give you the final height
17 Subtract the first final height from the last reduced height. This must equal ΣBS -ΣFS
and ΣRise - ΣFall as check
